I have been given permission by the Mangaka to enter some of his information. I leave it to the moderators if they want it or not. If so I shall add more and discuss with him if he will allow his work to be added. Being somewhat frail after a stroke there are a few things he wants 'dealt with' now! I shall monitor his page for comments.
He's Australian by birth and came across manga back in the mid-1970's when it was used as packing material on a Computer Mainframe Board Box. As someone with an artistic bend it interested him and he used it to learn Basic Japanese before going over for work and a holliday in 1978.
His work is of two types.
One is a satire on day-to-day life, about A5 in size and four or five 'panels' in two rows. He used two sets of eyes with eyebrows and lips in various poses and balloons containing comments in both Australian English and Japanese Hiragana. This was available through one of the smaller Regional Dailys in Australia that no longer exists, and the equivalent in Saitama, Japan where a japanese friend, a Computer Mainframe Engineer he knew lived had contacts. It ran for some six years. Some of his work from that time is available and the intention is to where possible scan it or photograph it and upload on bato.to when he has agreed. It's pencil and black ink so as expected some of it has faded beyond use, however many of the topics are strangely still relevant today.
His second Mangaka line was working as one in an early 'circle' providing translation and proofreading into english of a 1960's family life style Manga set in a remote river Village. Unfortunately we cannot find any of this amongst his archives and as far as he knew there was only one other member of the 'circle' still alive back in 2012 when he last had any contact. I have someone over there trying to track the other members families and magazine archives down. I am at present, awaiting their findings before I will say any more on this, however the circle ran for over 15 years so hopefully some of their work will be archived.
