Katori Masaru is a pen name. Her actual name is: Hayashiba Naoko (林葉直子). She is a famous Shogi player like her character in Shion no Ou. There is a substantial amount of gossip about her. Besides manga, she's written two well-recognized novel series: Dondemo Police and Kiss Dakeja Iya.
