Life-long friends Fujimoto Hiroshi and Abiko Motoo had been drawing pictures since their elementary school days in Takaoka, Toyama prefecture. In middle school they were influenced by Tezuka Osamu’s Shin Takarajima and started submitting works to Manga Shonen magazine. In 1954 they moved to Tokiwa-so and resided in the room which Tezuka was moving out of. They then started writing together under the pen name of "Fujiko Fujio" among which are Obake no Q-Tarou, Ninja Hattori-kun and Doraemon.

In 1963 they established Studio Zero with Ishinomori Shotaro, Tsunoda Jiro, Tsunoda Kiyoichi and Suzuki Shinichi. Later Akatsuka Fujio also joined, and they produced Tetsuwan Atom and Q-tarou into anime.

The duo Fujiko Fujio broke up in 1987, Abiko continued under the name of "Fujiko Fujio (A)" and Fujimoto under "Fujiko F. Fujio".

He died in his sleep on April 7th 2022.
