Restating an Old Rule
Some of you may not have realized, but back in the beginning of October, we disabled download links for all series marked "licensed" into the English language. The original news post can be found here:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/news.html?id=276

Now you're wondering why I'm bringing this up now.
If you submit a manga release to us that is for a licensed series but an unknown scanlator (we define that as not being listed in our group database), even if there IS a download link, we will REJECT that release. Likewise, if you add a new group that has no website or IRC link, and is without any approved releases, unless you state a reason for this (through a pm to me), the group will also be REJECTED (if any questions about this, pm me).

(On an unrelated note, "Anonymous" or any variation of it will not be accepted as a group name in the release entry. Please use "?" for unknown groups)

For unlicensed series, releases made by unknown groups (as under the previously defined definition) without download links will be REJECTED.

In other words, don't try and submit anything that crosses the bounds as stated above.

Thank you for your cooperation (and if you don't, we can always press the "Delete" button)~

Re: Well done by lambchopsil on March 27th, 2008, 7:06pm

We just tolerated the people who kept giving bad releases, but the problem's been on the rising with all the one-man teams or forum guys who just slap on a translation on a public raw, so I decided to publicly address the problem

Yeah, and thats why none of those people work at MU.

Re: Well done by JJTang on March 27th, 2008, 11:46pm

It's not about the quality, it's about idiots who post a release with a ? as the group, no website, no forum, no irc, and no link. How the hell are we supposed to get the manga? How the hell are we even supposed to know that the release really exists?

Re: Well done by Kaioh on March 28th, 2008, 4:07am

Actually, aside from that, we verify pretty much every release, if no link is given, we cannot verify the release as accurate.

Re: Well done by story645 on March 28th, 2008, 7:58am

well same as with #lurk, it's about knowing where to go. (Or at least something like 90% of the time, ?='s one site (don't know if I can post the name 'cause of the no download sites rule)
I'll fess up, I posted a ? no links for Ouran 'cause I didn't know that the rules changed, and put a note to the mods about why I added no info 'cause I wanted people to know 59 was floating around but I couldn't figure out a way to tell 'em where without breaking the rules.

So liscensed manga by unknown scanlators is not allowed(?)

I guess I'm wondering what the requirements for a approved scanlator.

Re: No Subject by m64 on March 28th, 2008, 12:32am

if the group is unknown and they post a licensed project release there will automatically be no dl link... no one will know where to find it.

requirements? pm an admin ["About Us" lists admins] with your group info [http/forums/irc] and they will update the database and there will be no problem.

Re: No Subject by sakirol on March 28th, 2008, 12:32am

It's all up there. Go read it again. The requirements aren't that high. Just be a proper scanlating group.

Thank you! by tgirl on March 28th, 2008, 1:35am

I've been looking at all the new scanlation groups in the "What's New!" section recently. Out of all the years that I've been visiting MU, I never really paid much attention to that section until now. Scrolling down, I was amazed at all these unknown scanlators. I couldn't believe that it was that easy to get yourself registered here at MU baring nothing but project names. Also, some of the site links they put down goes to sites that have not a single hint of scanlation on it anywhere. O.o ...
