New Poll - Japanese Food
We rarely have food polls, so why not use nowyat's suggestion? The list of 10 items is of course non-exhaustive, and I purposely didn't have options for "None of the above" or "Other" or "All of the above." Just choose what's available. And on a tangent, I haven't read Yakitate!! Japan in a long time... You know, I used to scanlate that.

But hey, if you have a favorite food that's not on the list, tell us in the forums!
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=31223

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related):
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Do you watch TV dramas based on manga/anime?
Choices:
Yes, and I love them! - votes: 1293 (10.6%)
I've watched some, and they're mostly okay - votes: 3642 (29.7%)
Seen some, and I don't like many (or any at all) - votes: 2828 (23.1%)
Haven't seen any - votes: 4482 (36.6%)
There were 12245 total votes.
The poll ended: January 7th 2012

Then again, not everyone watches TV dramas in general. Although I did start watching ABC's Once Upon a Time because my roommate (who never watches these things) recommended it

Edit: I just realized I should've put sashimi on that list. Too late...

No mushrooms? Sushi in that case. Always filled with something neat. Some savory, some sweet.

Picking between sushi and tempura... That was a tough choice. But in the end my precious vote went to tempura wink

Once Upon a Time is great; I wouldn't have watched it without my friend forcing me to. bigrazz
I love sushi and ramen but I choosed ramen o_o

Tastes great biggrin *wonders if the people voting for 'bento' even know what it is* O.o

Bento IS Boxed Lunch so the content is varying. Depending on who's making it and what ingredients used.

That's what I mean, it's not a real dish O.o

I've tried most of these. Every one of them made me sick or gag. Haven't tried Tofu-dango, at least I don't think. Had a girlfriend from Japan who'd make this crap for me. I'll stick to what I'm used to.

Isn't ramen no different from instant noodles (well at least they seem pretty similar to me, except for maybe the soup base flavour)? How did it make you sick? O_o

thread

» vietangelix on January 8th, 2012, 10:49am

Maybe she wasn't good at cooking..?

thread

» PandaRanda on January 8th, 2012, 9:02am

Though I suppose there's the hand-made, non-instant stuff, but you'd expect that to taste better. xD

thread

» chomio on January 7th, 2012, 3:48pm

A rather original chose of a poll, but what to do with combinations?
Anyway I didn't chose anything, because I haven't eaten everything yet.

thread

» uzumakiwalid on January 7th, 2012, 4:48pm

Never eat any of those (at least in japan) so this time i'm not choosing. Why? Because I don't even know how they are taste originally....

thread

» maine12329 on January 7th, 2012, 6:30pm

I love all of them sad how could you make me choose...

thread

» Naoli on January 7th, 2012, 6:44pm

Only thing I ever ate is ramen : /

thread

» Oxwivi on January 8th, 2012, 1:33am

I never had the opportunity to try any!

thread

» Lacie_Rabbit on January 8th, 2012, 7:47am

A very tough choice. I can't choose between tempura, sushi, yakitori and onigiri, but in the end I chose onigiri. For sushi, it depends on what kind of toppings actually. As for nabe, I have been wanting to try it but haven't gotten a chance. Maybe one fine day. biggrin
Agree with some about bento too, but I guess generally in my head, bento means rice with any side dishes. XD And ohh, takoyaki should have been in the poll too. I would have definitely chose that for sure! biggrin

Unagi, but not dried eel.

thread

» muzwany on January 8th, 2012, 2:48pm

god, there is so much more great japanese food, but i don't even know the names of most of the stuff i've eaten during my stay in japan. i love soba though - not on the list. first thing i did when i got back from japan: find the nearest supermarket and buy the noodles. i was that addicted to them.
and to shiso. the best herb ever. cold soba in soup, with shiso. it's heaven. also, a nice addition in temaki sushi (sushi you make yourself, for example on a temaki sushi party with friends). shiso shiso shiso. i wish i had a garten where i could grow it. you can buy it where i live, but it's insanely expensive. they count the leaves, and it doesn't taste half as well as when found on the roadside in the mountains.

thread

» rita on January 8th, 2012, 3:44pm

i vote okonomiyaki xD
btw...bento is not food...it just means packed lunch(or food) <.<

thread

» barbapapa on January 8th, 2012, 5:38pm

Even though adding bento to the poll is debatable, i still picked it. The variety in an ekiben for example is hard to beat. Kind of wish I had more when I was there. Curry, although not Japanese in origin should really be in it though. Special mention goes to gyoza<3

thread

» drunkguy on January 8th, 2012, 7:47pm

No oden, shabu-shabu or undon? Oh well. Guess I'll pick sushi then. Chirashi and inarizushi are my standby orders.

thread

» Akukame on January 9th, 2012, 12:44am

Seriously. I would think something like shabu shabu or sukiyaki would be more popular than dried eel or tofu-dango. I do love okonomiyaki though, but its rare for me to have it.

thread

» Lynkz on January 10th, 2012, 4:49am

I might be mistaken, but I was under the impression that ramen was originally a chinese dish... that's like having a poll about your favorite american food and putting tacos in the list when it's really mexican. Udon would have been a better option in my opinion.

thread

» empathy on January 10th, 2012, 5:33am

Didn't vote Ramen since its not exactly something I eat in true Japanese style very often, I had to go with Okonomiyaki.... If there was "Other" that would go for yakinikudon or cutlet bread... one of those two bigrazz

thread

» makoz on January 10th, 2012, 1:44pm

lol, your post made me read the ending of Yakitate!! Japan (dropped it, story went air gear, lost its focus). Well reading it, glad I dropped it...

thread

» connerity on January 11th, 2012, 8:21am

I'd say more than 90% taking this vote haven't even eaten more than 2 of the dishes listed and only base their opinion on what they found awesome in japanese media.

see comments asking where takoyaki is...that's more like a snack and not a full dish/meal.
Then again, putting bento in the poll is kinda questionable too, since it's nothing defined, you can pack in there whatever you want.
The only thing of those that's commonly found over the world is sushi, for everything else you already need to go to specific restaurants.

Ugh, this must be the hardest poll from MU. I just absolutely love okonomiyaki (everyone has to try it, seriously!), but you just can't beat ramen. I can probably eat ramen every day for a whole week, probably cant do that for the former.

thread

» jrlc66 on January 13th, 2012, 10:27am

i love to fry seaweed you should have that to vote on in poll

thread

» goldshep on January 15th, 2012, 10:15pm

and the poll favored those who are ignorant about the variety of Japanese traditional foods.
