New Poll - Amount of Ecchi
This week's poll comes from our member BlackOrion. He's wondering how much ecchi do you like in your manga. Of course it's subjective, but hey, so are most of these polls!

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related):
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: When the author and artist of a series is different, I care more about the
Choices:
Author - votes: 3082 (25.9%)
Artist - votes: 3071 (25.8%)
Doesn't matter - votes: 5753 (48.3%)
There were 11906 total votes.
The poll ended: April 21st 2012

That's pretty dead even between author and artist. Dang... I guess opinions are split on this, eh?

What kind of series are we talking about here?

Sex appeal and sexual jokes aren't necessary at all or even relevant for a lot of genres, and it seems like a very odd question to ask. Sounds to me like this poll is limited to shounen series targeted at adolescent boys...

there are very rare exeptions though...like b gata h kei
but generally i avoid anything tagged as ecchi
i like manga with sexual jokes or perverted characters(e.g. longer and slower than a river) but if its purely fanservice then i cant stand it

Me too, in the past I liked ecchi too, but after growing older, you start to hate it. Because "the ecchi" can ruin a good story. Their aren't many series that are tagged ecchi that I was reading in the past, that I'm still reading now (History's strongest discipline Kenichi is one of those rare, that I'm still reading)

Where's the "indifferent" option? I read and watch a lot of ecchi manga and anime but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy series with no ecchi elements whatsoever.

And besides, is the amount of ecchi content usually a measure of a "good series?" Unless we're talking about stuff like Kissxsis or To Love-ru Darkness, I doubt it.

thread

» gundamgundam on April 21st, 2012, 9:51am

Exactly. The poll seems to be created by someone who doesn't know what he/she's talking about. First, the "Just enough to make it funny" suggests that "ecchi" is always "funny", so I imagine that watching the "ecchi" scenes in High school of the dead or in Cage of Eden must have the author laughing out-loud or something.

thread

» Toto on April 23rd, 2012, 5:31am

It depends on one's point of view.

For you, the question "suggests" the term "always".

For others, it's just a generalization.

And for those only concerned with the term, ecchi is simply humorous and a bit erotic.

I think u phrased the question wrong. Even if a person enjoys ecchi, the answer is still none if they Also like non-ecchi stories. "How much ecchi do you like in manga" may have been better or better yet. "do you like ecchi" with options "yes, no, only for comedy"

This is an odd question, because a series can be good with or without ecchi. It completely depends.

As someone who's read a lot of ecchi, even I know a manga can be fantastic without a single spec of fanservice within it.

I voted just enough though, because an overkill of anything is just plain annoying, so yeah.

Weird poll.

thread

» Juuza on April 21st, 2012, 3:54am

I would say just enough (though I do also enjoy series without ecchi) otherwise it can be slightly annoying since from my limited perspective, I can easily imagine it coming across as a cynical attempt to get boys interested in girls (in order to increase the Japanese / East Asian birthrate) so they do not become "grass-eaters" by making a series as pointlessly ecchi as possible.

When it comes to 'ecchi,' the risque level of content in titles can differ greatly; it may go from sexual jokes, to a few panty-shots, to extensive fan-service, to nudity, all the way to full-on intercourse. Compare: Doujin Work, Love Hina, KissxSis, Yomeiro-Choice, & Aki-Sora. Whether a series is shounen or seinen plays a part as well, with the latter being generally stronger.

There are great ecchi titles out there, and I am not about to condemn an entire genre. However, if you have a tendency to bash it, I suggest you stop reading it altogether. There are many more fan-service free manga that might float your boat.

Personally it really doesn't matter to me. If it's just outright fan service I have learned to overlook it. I like perverted humor though.. At least if it's done right.

I just went with "Just enough to make it funny" but really for me it doesn't matter. I can have selective viewer should I chose to. :3

yeah, there should really be an "it doesnt matter" or "it depends on the series" option

if its a romcom or seinin or something a little ecchi here and there is a welcome commodity,
but if im reading a serious romance, a mainstream shounen, a horror, or a sports manga- it would be pretty annoying.

its not really an accurate 'poll' if you have such limited black/white choices

oh right, may be a lot of guys find it "funny"...( but I do want to know what is so funny about it..? oh, may be seeing the panties is so much fun for them..?argh)
I actually avoid series that have ecchi elements.....
(since I ve never came across with a ecchi series that I like, I personally find those ecchi elements rather ...disgusting and not "funny" AT ALL)

thread

» Myuym on April 21st, 2012, 9:02am

Seeing as there are good series without ecchi the only correct answer is "None at all"

Also more than half thinks a good series need ecchi, I'm dissapointed.

So more than 50% thinks series like one piece should have ecchi.

And at the moment 45.4% says that every "good series" needs to be funny.

thread

» KJacket on April 21st, 2012, 10:05am

Agreed with myuym n gundamx2 above me.

There are ecchi series I like, there are series that are more like porn that I like and there are good series that have absolutely no ecchi that I like. The correct answer is none at all, people should read questions more carefully.

The question could've been 'How much ecchi in a series would you prefer?' not sure if there was already a poll on that.

I guess some of the voters for just enough would be glad that there are doujins.

Yes, I was really surprised(not pleasantly) to see so many people think Ecchi is funny at all. There are SO many shounen out there that are hilarious and don't need to resort to cheap fan service to get laughs. Those are called 'Funny' in a true sense.
Quote from rianna2008

Sure there are some ecchi manga that are funny, but to say that ecchi=funny is definitely preposterous.

In fact, most of the ecchi manga I have come across are downright annoying and stupid too. Anybody who gets a laugh out of randomly sprinkled panty shots really doesn't have much of a sense of humor.

thread

» randomreader on April 21st, 2012, 10:17am

not to mention the different 'levels' of ecchi-
it can be anywhere from to-love-ru style blatant nudity / face in crotch every other freakin page
to generic casual panty shots or a big breasted love interest existent in pretty much every shounen manga (just look at the big three)
to absolutely none in more serious series like death note

also i dont think anybody really finds it "funny", its more like a perverted gimmick or fan service.
im a guy and i have NEVER thought an ecchi scene was funny- i've never even considered the possibility that it was there for comedic purposes- but i wouldnt be so closeminded as to call it "disgusting" like rianna said, people have different tastes- ecchi is prodominantly for guys, and you are a girl; of course you probably wont enjoy it

the poll is just really badly worded.

it is an interesting concept to see what people 'prefer'- but saying how much it 'needs', and then giving such a limited number of choices is just rubbish

How much ecchi does a good series NEEDS?

Some people says they can't read a manga with out ecchi (i don't like it at all), i made this poll suggestion after a poll that was exactly the same but whit romance (same question with "Romance" same answers except that for the second option it was "enoguh to make it good") , not all manga have romance, not all romance is the same, nobody said a word about that none . As Lamb said most polls are like this one.

Answer: In my opinion a good manga doesn't "need" ecchi to be good, also, what's the difference, if it exist, between an "ecchi" manga and manga such as "Kono S" or "B gata H kei" that is aimed toward a more mature audience?, i would't call that "ecchi" but rather... "adult" (perhaps?) although such a tag is not restricted for that alone (if even used with that intention)

The other poll asked, " How much drama do you want in a series with romance?" No one complained about that because it was worded in a way that made sense. It was also more specific. Using the words "need" and "good series" wasn't the best choice of words for reasons mentioned in other posts. I hope I don't sound too serious. I'd say it's less of a question of how much and more a question of what type. A female character who likes to show off her body? Sure. It's when a character can't go through an entire day without falling on a girl and ending up in an embarrassing position, or reaching for something without looking and accidentally grabbing a girl's chest. That's when I have a problem.

In other words, it's a matter of whether or not it seems forced.

Well, I will be honest. I am a straight male possibly otaku, so I do enjoy ecchi scenes. But, I have read several stories that just had ecchi to have it...I couldn't get more than a couple of chapters into the story. I'm talking about the "Oh, why does it have to be so windy on the day that I had to borrow my older sister's special panties? And, my shirt keeps popping opened because my breasts grew again..." kind of story that does the same thing every chapter.

Sometimes, I think "how many times can To Love-ru possibly have a tentacle monster scene?" (it seems to happen once every few chapters). But, I always remember how cute all of the characters are and I keep reading the manga...then, there is a really good chapter that actually has some character development in it and I forget all about my doubts. And, repeat.

A well written story doesn't need ecchi to be good. But, if you take a good story and add in some well drawn ecchi scenes that works with the story, then it can be even better.

To the person who said that 'girls and GAY males' don't like ecchi, what the hell?! What about girls who like yaoi? We love our BL ecchi thanks very much! laugh I'm sure there are also girls out there who like straight ecchi too!

I don't like straight ecchi but that's because I'm not into big boobs and blatant crotch shots- I have read quite a few manga with ecchi but they all bored me or grossed me out- if the girls looked more like normal women and less like little kindergarten girls with massive footballs on their chest, I may have found it tolerable! wink

What can I say? Males are all perverts, minus the BL community which consists 60% of rapists and others who have nothing but sex in their mind when they hear the word love. In general, boys think with their underbodies.

As a girl, as you'd expect I avoid ecchi. There's really nothing to it other than to satisfy the male lust of boobs and pants. So how can it be funny? The only thing it does is minus from the manga quality. Of course, there are ones I've come to accept over the course of time, such as Eden no Ori. But in no way does that mean ecchi is good, it just means the series is either good enough or doesn't piss me off as much.

Ecchi, I don't mind VERY VERY little, but it's better it has none at all. Exceptions can be made, but I will never ever want to read those 3x sized boobs with utterly disgusting pants. We girls are more refined than that!

The only time ecchi will improve the manga is when the manga sucks, sucks to hell, and no one will read it unless you put a large amount of ecchi to attract males.

^ THIS.

Ecchi is most of the time annoying and feels forced, but in some manga it is has been used in a better way, making some scenes funnier.

@ Ibleda:

C'mon, "60% Males"? 60% Straight/Bi Males are Rapists? Remaining 40% Straight/Bi Males are complete perverts and sex minded? Seriously? Don't you think that's some GREAT exaggeration?

I do agree that majority of teenagers and youths think most of the time about sexual stuff, there are many guys that always think about sex and girls, and there are guys who are psychologically so sick that they even molest/harass/rape a girl when they find the right opportunity.

BUT, stating 'In general, boys think with their underbodies.' is nothing more than a hate for boys/males.

Age group plays a main role, and the sexual desire of males (and girls) reduces with the increase in their age. So obviously, you can't call "60% Males" rapists and remaining 40% sex minded.

That would mean that your male grandparents are either rapist or sex minded. (Please don't take any offense!)

What I'm telling you, is to learn to use better words for expressing your opinion.
Think about your statement and remarks before mentioning it publicly.

Don't involve "everyone", but only those that deserve it.
You should have stated something like- "Majority of youths are inclined towards sexual stuff, and some of them are of sick mentality (who commit crimes like molestation, sexual harassment and rape)."

I don't think anyone could deny the fact that most of us young males are 'inclined towards sexual stuff'.
So, it'd would have sounded way better.

I don't know whether you know this fact or not, but even "Girls" molest/Harass boys.
I'm not kidding here. Use 'Mr. Google' if you don't believe me.
You'll find a lot of cases on the net.

Girls have a greater "Sexual drive" than males when they get horny, for your information.
That's the reason many of them turn into so-called "sluts" to fulfill their sexual desire.

In other words, girls could be way more 'sex minded' than guys.
You'll find only a few "Bi Males" but a ton of "Bi Girls".
When the girls don't get enough from males, they turn toward their own gender, girls, for their fulfillment.

Conclusion:

Majority of guys are - perverted (level varies from 'a little bit perverted' to "disgustingly perverted")

Majority of girls are - sex minded (level varies from 'a little bit sex minded' to "a complete slut")

laugh cool

Listen to your own words.

Apparently, now when a girl gets horny and she can't get a man, we turn to our own gender? Not all of us lean that way -.- Being bisexual isn't a choice, as much as some would like to think. Talking to anyone in the LGBT community will assure you of that. You'd also be quite surprised as to how many men are bisexual, it's fairly equal between the sexes but men (often due to social constructs) are quieter about it.

And now we also apparently turn into "sluts" to satisfy our desires? I don't even care how you meant that, the connotation of that word is extremely offensive.

I'll agree that Ibleda was exaggerating extremely in that statement. It's the only point on which we stand on the same ground.

Now, for the ecchi:

It's alright, I guess? The whole "panty-shot," "accidentally groping," and "walking in on the person getting dressed" thing are beyond overdone. Though I will applaud Cage of Eden for one reason, you get a very nice fanservice moment for the female part of the audience.

Really, I don't care if it's there or not, I either don't notice or try not to let it get in the way of my reading the manga for the plot. Really, if the plot sucks, why would I bother buying the book? You don't really need ecchi, it's just a pretty flare you add to attract attention.

I voted none at all. Ecchi has never struck me as funny. (I wonder why... *female*) I don't even particularly mind ecchi, but the way it's usually portrayed is decidedly unfunny and overdone to the point where it's completely worn out. Ecchi straddles (no pun intended) but rarely crosses the line into explicitness, and the limitations are obvious. Very, very few series that focus on ecchi fanservice benefit at all from the ecchi. In fact, it's often merely frosting on a cake that doesn't need any—but people come for the frosting and stick around 'cause the cake is actually much better than they were expecting.

Or something like that. biggrin I actually like series that toe the line a little, but if ecchi exists merely to shock and please male readers, count me out. Same with shoujo fanservice, for that matter. If the plot and the characters do not benefit from it, it's probably not necessary.

To let the cat out of the bag, ecchi is comedy for the reason of laughing at the protags suffering. Its funny due to the after effects when the perverted dude gets his hopes up, or gets happy from seeing certain parts. The relapse consists of his body, hopes, or soul being broken, or him saying something absurdly destructive to his own well being. Basically ecchi comedy is sadistically laughing at grieving dudes.

Also chicks can't say craps about ecchi. Smut manga is WAAAAYYYY more dirty and rape prone. Ecchi shows panties, smut in shoujo/josei has full blown sex and its forced a lot. So before griping about our flaws, clean up your hypocritical side of the argument.

I agree with most of your comment. It makes a lot of sense. (My sense of humor just doesn't go that way. I dislike it for the same reason I dislike slapstick. It seems forced and silly.)

However, I do have to disagree with this one bit here.

Ecchi certainly does NOT equal Smut. In fact, I'm not sure there's any real comparison, but the closest you could get is Hentai (which is written for a largely male demographic) although the focus of Hentai is mostly on explicitly portrayed sex acts where smut usually has more "story" if you can call it that (mostly because for girls, their fantasies are often as much about the journey as the destination. XD)

Rough Comparison Chart:
(rough because they can't really be equated with each other)

EXPLICIT:
= Hentai (aimed mostly at boys) = Smut (aimed mostly at girls)
= Yaoi (girls, some boys) = Yuri (boys, some girls)

LESS-EXPLICIT/NOT EXPLICIT
= Shounen-Ai (mostly girls, some boys) = Shoujo-Ai (mostly boys, some girls)
= Ecchi (mostly boys) = Average Shoujo fanservice * (mostly girls)

* [i.e., shirtless boys, girls falling on top of boys, accidental kisses, caring for poor, sick bishie, etc.]

As evidence I cite MU's definitions for both genres:

Ecchi: Possibly the line between hentai and non-hentai, ecchi usually refers to fanservice put in to attract a certain group of fans.

Smut: Deals with series that are considered profane or offensive, particularly with regards to sexual content.

Hentai is anything with explicit sex. Smut doesnt show the details, and thus is the closest to ecchi. The main reason being, its the only way to increase sexual content since all the dudes are already covered in water and shirtless more often than the twilight cast. Ecchi rarely even removes clothing, and hentai is gender neutral so it can't have a sex specific counterpart.

Girls
Regular>smut>hentai
Guys
Regular>ecchi>hentai.

Ecchi is the guys line between, and smut is the girls. Chicks just keep it closer to hentai for the most part.

I think you're getting sidetracked. When a manga is labelled as 'smut' it's instantly understood that the story is mainly about the physical relations of the main character with others. Nobody tries to pass off smut scenes as funny and it is NOT meant to be funny. While ecchi does just that. Where exactly is the hypocrisy here?!

This is such utter bullshit. Where did you get all this info from? Probably from all the pornos you frequently check out. Its a known fact that girls derive both a physical and emotional pleasure from a relationship. This tends to make women have only one partner at a time and for a long time too. 'Many girls turn into sluts'?!
Please do not apply your skewed data to brand 'majority of girls' as sex-minded.
Maybe you should try interacting with an actual girl to get some 'real' data.

SO your statements are juvenile and completely laughable. Before you shoot off with your 'theories', try and atleast verify the facts. smile

the way he worded it was just terrible, females think about sex just as much as males do but in less obvious ways...is what he was trying to say..i think

anyway, WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THIS THREAD'S TOPIC confused
so, back on topic:
some ecchi manga dont even contain romance, this goes to show that ecchi is not synonymous with sex scenes
most manga which contain both ecchi and sexual content will be tagged as "mature"
on the other hand, smut is always synonymous with sexual content

I usually don't care that much for ecchi. A given series can be more than interesting and addictive without the use of pretentious perverted gags aimed towards teen and young adult males.

But, I don't mind if a series uses a scene of ecchi-esque material in a given scene just to liven things up a bit.

I didn't say anything wrong there. You failed to comprehend my words.
I never said "all" the girls. I mentioned about the "Bisexual" girls, so I was obviously talking about them.

I'm still fairly sure that there are more bisexual girls than bisexual guys.
And yes, it is a choice for girls to turn to their own gender for their sexual satisfaction.

There are many real life experiences and stories that tells that the women turned to their gender just for the sake of sexual satisfaction. Many of them were never interested in their gender, but the moment some other girl/woman got a chance to "eat them", they stopped thinking about anything else other than than the pleasure they experienced in the process.
So yeah, it is a choice they made for their pleasure and satisfaction by starting to visit them again and again behind the back of their boyfriends and husbands.

Quote from elementalblood
And now we also apparently turn into "sluts" to satisfy our desires? I don't even care how you meant that, the connotation of that word is extremely offensive
.

Yes, many girls turn into "sluts" to 'satisfy their sexual desire'. What else do you thing make them to act like a 'slut'?

It doesn't matter whether you feel offended or not. You're obviously a girl, so you simply find it offending.
But that doesn't mean I should hesitate to mention the right thing for the sake of girls.

I'm not here to please anyone, but to state the truth.

If a girl/woman acts like a 'slut' (i.e., like a promiscuous girl/woman), then she'll be called a "slut".
I'm not going to call her "Oh my Pure Lady" just to please her.

A person who steals things from others is called a "thief", a person who kills others is called a "murderer", a person who keeps acting foolishly is called an "idiot" and so on
We call people according to their deeds and behavior, and you don't stand a chance against this very obvious fact. You can't deny it no matter how you think or feel.

Hope that clears my point!

I don't care whether a series has ecchi or not as long as it's good and the fanservice doesn't detract from the story (like wasting a chapter for those beach/onsen fanservice). A few series actually use ecchi to great effect though, like Sora no Otoshimono. The ecchi in that series never really feels over the top due to how over the top the protag's actions are in comparison.

Both girls and guys derive both aspects of pleasure from a relationship. That's quite obvious.

Again, read my post properly.

It's not that my wording was unclear, it's you who are not trying to read and understand my post properly.

I never mentioned anything that implies "straight girls would go as far as sleep with girls because they're "sex-minded"".

My implication was that straight (the basic or expected orientation) girls "could" go as far as sleep with other girls.

And that's very true. Take the case of "Bisexual girls" as an example.

So, my implication was 100% correct, and the wording was very clear.

There's a reason I mentioned that "level variation" at the end of my post.

According to it, a (straight) girl who is "a little bit sex minded"(The Minimum level) won't normally try to hook up with a girl. On the other hand, a girl who is "a complete slut"(The Maximum level) would hook up with anyone she pleases. The other levels in between determine the possibility of a girl to sleep with the same gender.

The more sex minded a girl is, the more the possibility increases.

Just because majority of girls are sex minded doesn't mean majority of girls would be willing to sleep with a girl. It all depends on the level of sex mindedness.

And still, I'm saying the "possibility" increases, I'm not saying that they "do" sleep with other girls after reaching a certain level.

A "disgustingly perverted" man "could" be more of a "rapist" than a man who's "a little bit perverted". It depends on the "level of pervertedness".

Just because a certain percentage of guys are of rapist nature doesn't mean majority of guys are the same. Simple as that.

How could you not understand such a simple and obvious thing?!

People don't usually stop reading/watching porn once they get girlfriends.

Anyway, let me quote what you said.
Quote from HitsujinoHon

You are implying that ALL women have a greater sexual drive than men, i.e they are hornier. Thanks FYI. Being a woman, I had absolutely no idea that women had greater libido than men.
But you should google it cause you're way off the mark. You'll find that lower libido is common in women but uncommon in men.

2nd- You are saying that many of these girls turn into 'sluts'. This part is a bit vague. I have compared 'many' to majority, which may be a bit flawed but ultimately comes down to the same point. You are saying that girls have a tendency to cheat on guys 'cause of higher libido.

Quote from HitsujinoHon
Many of them were never interested in their gender, but the moment some other girl/woman got a chance to "eat them", they stopped thinking about anything else other than than the pleasure they experienced in the process.
So yeah, it is a choice they made for their pleasure and satisfaction by starting to visit them again and again behind the back of their boyfriends and husbands.

Yea, here you're saying that 'many' women get so completely overwhelmed by the urge to satisfy their desires that they turn bi/cheat.

So don't blame others for not reading your post right, when you should learn to word your thoughts better.

Hmm, so your theory is based on a handful of women in your life. Lets see, that makes about 15 out of 3,500,000,000 in this world. Honestly, that sample size is too small to state anything conclusive.
So why don't you read your posts again, come to the realization that what you stated was frivolous, and then you can save yourself further embarrassment.
Its a simple, obvious thing smile

You don't even need to step out of your room to see how fallible your argument is. Just google it.

Right back at you!

Quote from ElanorR
You are implying that ALL women have a greater sexual drive than men, i.e they are hornier.

Did I mention "figures"? Did I ever say 100% women have a greater sexual drive than men?

When women (and studies) say men are less sensitive or not as emotional as them, does that mean "all" the men? Do you seriously believe that?

Let me tell you something. Many men could be "way more" sensitive and emotional than many women.
And many women could be "way more" insensitive and unemotional than men.

When we state a fact, we talk about the "majority". We never talk about each and every person until we're specifically using 'figures'.

Well, I do agree that men could prove to be more capable of having a better sexual drive because of their physical characteristics. But basically, I was talking about "too sex minded" women who're capable to beat men because of their too much sexual desire (that results in a change in their sexual drive).
I do agree that this is the only point I didn't mention clearly.

Quote from ElanorR
You are saying that many of these girls turn into 'sluts'. This part is a bit vague. I have compared 'many' to majority, which may be a bit flawed but ultimately comes down to the same point. You are saying that girls have a tendency to cheat on guys 'cause of higher libido.

Yes, I said 'many' girls. I never said "majority" of girls.
There's nothing vague about it, and is quite understandable if you are actually willing to understand it.
And that doesn't come down to the same point.

When I'm talking about the "whole world", 'many' is the lowest form of adjective I could use here.

Quote from ElanorR
Yea, here you're saying that 'many' women get so completely overwhelmed by the urge to satisfy their desires that they turn bi/cheat.

Yes, that's correct. That's what I'm saying and I don't find anything wrong with it.
'Many' women (not "Majority") get so completely overwhelmed by the urge to satisfy their desires that they turn bi/cheat.

Quote from ElanorR
Hmm, so your theory is based on a handful of women in your life. Lets see, that makes about 15 out of 3,500,000,000 in this world.

Wow, who told you that my facts/theory is based on only 15 women?
Who told you that the total number of my girlfriends and female friends = "15" or so?

How can you talk on behalf of "3,500,000,000" females?
Who gave you the right to decide how those 3,500,000,000 females should live their lives?
Do you have some super-extraordinary power to know how those 3,500,000,000 females feel or live their lives?
You don't know a thing about them. You only know about yourself, your friends, your family, etc.

Wow, what a display of "hypocrisy"......

Do I even need to say anything more?! At least I don't think so.

Quote from sarah-eats-cupcakes
.......so, basically you're saying that only a complete slut would hook up with a girl whereas a girl who doesnt isnt very "sex minded"?

No, Sarah, I never mentioned anything like that.

See, I clearly mentioned in my post that the "possibility" increases with 'sex mindedness'.
I never said a "too sex mended" girl can't live without acting like a "slut".

Don't worry, dear, you don't have to feel down.
I won't doubt the level of your 'sex mindedness' on the basis of your actions.

It's always a great thing if even a really sex minded girl/woman could remain faithful to her boyfriend/husband.
That's a good proof that to you, your partner is one of the most precious thing of your life, and you don't want to lose him just because of your extreme sexual desires.
That means you put your relationship on top of everything else... that means your relationship is your number one priority, which is an excellent way of thinking, and one of the most important thing for a successful relationship.

"Sluts" are those who care most about their sexual urges.
Even if they want to, they still can't stop because deep down in their heart their number one priority is to fulfill their sexual desires.

Any 'faithful' girl would know how to handle these urges, because she prioritizes her relationship the most.

If you're one of those really sex minded girls but still don't act like a 'slut', I'd truly appreciate you for thinking in a 'pure' way, and wish you the best in your life (well, I can't hug you, can I? My laptop won't allow me to do so. 'She' simply loves me too much wink ).

I read and watch a lot of shows that involve ecchi and still find it enjoyable to a point. As long as they don't go ridiculous or make up episodes to extend the amount of ecchi. Like Maken-Ki and Freezing don't even have close to amount of ecchi in the manga compared to the anime.

I stopped watching both cause it was a waste and got through 2 arcs maybe. Well I know Freezing did, Maken-Ki was a canon bs ending.

I don't include ecchi as important factor to specify good manga, but its presence sometimes really affect that manga itself.

There is no good answer for this one. It depends on what kind of ecchi we are talking about, in what series, whether it is fanservice or not, etc..

If it's shounen comedy, then I don't think ecchi makes it funny at all, but too much of it can make a series bad (e.g. negima). I don't really care about that anyway.

If it's a serious one, well, it's a different story. I like that kind of ecchi because it's not about fanservice, it makes the series more realistic (e.g. elfen lied). /of course there is a limit to it/

As for the poll, the 1st answer is a definite NO, the 2nd one would be yes (just enough) but it's NO because it doesn't make it funny at all (why would ecchi make something funny?? o.O), so it's the 3rd one I vote for but it's not true.. (if there is ecchi in a series that doen't mean it can't be a good one)

Need a 4th option!

Ecchi as in fanservice?

I read manga because it is alien compared to US comics and cartoons. A part of that alien nature is the different view on nudity and sexuality. Not every series needs fanservice but they should not shy away from adult content nor should they omit fanservice to pander to foreign markets. This is especially true if that market is overly influenced by hypocrites who think buckets of blood and intestines being ripped out of people is okay but depicting nudity is somehow a crime against humanity.

Most people here don't live in the STATES, (as in, maybe they live in some other country of AMERICA) so that's a pretty bad analogy since they might have never read a USA comic.

I, as an example, had only ever read really old USA comics (like the first 200 Amazing Spider-man, Batman year one, Sin City, that have sex but not with such a child like perspective such as in ecchi Manga, and a few Dark Horse comics that were absolutely not sex themed and have nothing like a "sexy" woman in them at all.

As a side note: The United States comic industry is terrible, sorry if anyone here is a fan, but i really hate it.

Edit: i'm sorry Caozhi sad , i just don't like the term Americans when used to talk about people from the states -.-.

Really? Let's not dive into a discussion of things so intensely off topic, yes? We're here to talk about the poll, not whether a girl is a slut or if we live in the United States.

Is the question posed: "How much ecchi does a good ecchi series need?" Or does it round up all good series in general? Then you have to put into perspective personal taste and such. For me a series doesn't require ecchi to be respected. If I read a series knowing it's ecchi then I expect there to be some. There's a limit to how much ecchi one can take without reaching the point of being blinded by ass, pantsu, and boobs. Make it fun, make it funny, but if you're going to shove all that in my face might as well go read some porn.

I pretty much hate seeing ecchi in a manga, its really pointless. Whenever its shown it doesn't progress the story and is just there just to get more people reading it. Sometimes it just isn't funny as well. no A series can be awesome without having any ecchi what so ever.
It's kinda annoying now that new series have to resort to putting ecchi in it when most of them are really good without it just to get more people reading it.

Kind of a dumb poll.

It's like putting "how much martial arts does a series need to be good?" None obviously; a series can be good without ecchi/martial arts/whatever-other-minor-genre. We'd probably end up with 99-100% of voters in option C if everyone actually read the question and thought about what it meant.

But since the question seems too obvious to bother asking, a good number of people (but NOT all people) interpret it as "how much do you like X (ecchi in this case)."

The respondents are replying to two different questions, and the results are meaningless.
