New Poll - Gender Bender in Real Life 2
Similar to the last poll, but now would you personally wanna go through a gender-swap experience (as described in some manga series)? This question was suggested by auriga and FormX. And if you're gonna post a comment, why or why not? And if it did happen, what kind of stuff would you do?

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Question: Similar to a gender bender series, which would be harder to deal with if it happened in real life?
Choices:
Guy turning into a girl - votes: 9384 (71%)
Girl turning into a guy - votes: 3829 (29%)
There were 13213 total votes.
The poll ended: March 30th 2013

I think the only series I've read for a girl -> guy was 1/2 Prince. Every other series has it guy -> girl since I guess it's more interesting (and harder?)

Would you be able to turn back after a time or is it permanent?

Then I'd say yes. A week (or year or whatever) in another's shoes would be more than healthy, but I'm not ready to start all over from scratch what I've spent the last 20 years trying to figure out.

Just for the sake of knowing what's like to be in the shoes of a girl, so long as i change back quickly, i won't have problems with the change, seem like a funny thing to do.

Would I want the experience? Sure. Would I actually try it? Hell no. It's confusing enough being a woman, then to suddenly become a dude? I've had my fill of shit, thanks but no thanks.

Huh...interesting how the girl and guy answers are reversed. I guess people just like being male in general?

thread

» quark1020 on March 30th, 2013, 1:39am

Society still tends to favor male as the dominant gender while also probably the simplest to live as.

Of course, it could also mean women are more curious about being the opposite gender than men. I myself, male, am not interested in changing my gender regardless of how perfect the transformation is or how temporary it is, but that's just me.

I chose "I'm a guy, yes".

Why: Well curiosity and I have never been manly so I think It would probably be more fitting if I was female. At least becoming one would let me know if I was right or not.

What would I do: I'm not really sure. I would probably check out my new equipment and dress up in different outfits or something. Mostly just experience how the other half lives. none

Never. Not even for a few minutes. I'm perfectly happy with the gender I was born into. Obviously, I'm fine with my originally having being born as a guy, but to become male after being female first (or vice versa)? No way. I can see why some people might consider it a thrilling (and enlightening?) experience - and I like unusual adventures as much as the next person - but that kind of adventure can remain firmly in fictionland as far as I'm concerned.

Tl; dr: I am a girl. I choose 'no.'

thread

» meridianna on March 30th, 2013, 4:53am

i chose 'I'm a girl, yes'

well, i'm pretty curious what my looks as guy is so i chose that. besides that, i'm constantly told that i'm not girly at all, becoz of my habits that are similar to guys (gaming, gore things, insensitive, mystery, actions, never bothered with make up, etc). hell, i'm also constantly mistaken as a guy in online forums, people are always shocked when i say that i'm a girl. though fortunately, it never happens in the real life.
if it's temporary i think it'll be fine, but if it's permanent.......it'll cause problems. as far i know, i like guys and i don't intend to change my preference. if i'm a guy, i'll be a gay one. and that's a huge problem. roll

'Course they fit. Pick the "yes" option for the gender you were born with.

I voted "I'm a guy, no". Curiosity aside, a gender is much more than body. Men and women think differently, feel differently, care about different things and (re)act differently. Sure, there are people who have problems with identifying with their gender and sure, it all depends on an individual (temperament, experiences and much more) but still. There is a reason why I was born a man and it's not my thing to decide - it's my thing to accept and make the best of.
Not to mention it's better to be a man, seeing as we can marry women. smile

I'm a guy and NO. I like girls, but not so much that I'd want to be one, even temporarily. There could only be for a few reasons for wanting something like that, like if you're gay or desperately want to grope some tits. Any guy who says they'd do it purely for the experience just wants to feel up a woman's body, the lying, desperate bastards. Masturbating would just be weird and I probably wouldn't do it... ok, maybe a finger. And I'd never get laid. As a man in a woman's body, I wouldn't want anything inside me... aside from a finger or two. Then menstruating... fuck that. no
The only thing worth while that I can think of would be to pose naked for money (in magazines, not titty bars). If it were to happen to me, that's all I'd do. That and hide from prying eyes. Being a lesbian seems bland (sorry lesbians). Only so much can be done and none of it interests me.

"I'm a girl, yes"

I've always wondered how is it like to be friends and make friends without all sorts of backstabbing, spreading of malicious rumors and bullying/snubbing. Apparently. Since that was what one of my guy friends pointed out to me while we were discussing the differences between how different genders view/treat their friendships.

Secondly... Females have to walk in heels/pretty looking shoes that kills our toes and have to up early just to put on make-up and do our hair... It'll be nice to just not do these sort of things for once, and just walk out in comfortable clothes and shoes.

Only problem I can foresee is that if I turn into a guy...Which gender would I like?? eek

I'm a girl and yes. It would be a worthwhile experience. Though I'm sure I want all the awkward situations that come from it.

More than that, I'm amused how most girls would want to do it but most guys wouldn't! If I was a psychology/sociology major, I could probably write a paper on that.

I'd say more girls would do it b/c of the way women and men are depicted in the world. It's true that certain first world specifically western countries have a more feminist and modern less damsel in distress view of women, but there still exists cultural institutions and ideologies that limit women from certain opportunities, advantages, and privileges that come with being a man. Western countries are crawling out of this but it doesn't mean that gender inequalities no longer exist. It's something embedded into a majority of cultures. It doesn't faze me if there are more girls who say yes than guys who say yes.

Note that this is also a voluntary poll. and I say western b/c I lack knowledge about eastern "first world" countries

I wouldn't mind seeing how the other half lives. My job would probably be easier too. But I don't know what I'd honk if I didn't know what was going on. Or if it was permanent.

I'd like to try it for the experience. The same as trying zero-g or playing in a perfectly simulated virtual world, though true gender bender does look impossible (brains and memories don't work as in Kaiba after all). It's always interesting to see other points of view. Permanent? If you can go one direction, you can also go the other, so I assume it would be temporal always or could depend of your will. I'm a guy and I don't have a problem with it, but trying the other side would be interesting and enriching in any case. cool

"I'm a guy, yes"

Although becoming permanently female would kind of bother me, but I would get over it. Just to experience how things "feel" would be something I wouldn't forget. Then I could also empathize with women more since you would know the feeling of having breast and... other things. I probably wouldn't change that much however, probably just be a female version of myself.

Short answer yes.

Long answer...
Well, as it seems I would change back (according to the third comment I believe?) it's a lower risk, so consider risk vs reward I deemed it would be worth it. I think I would probably enjoy it at least 2/3 of the month.. >.>;; Hopefully..

But yes, allow for me to explain by "reward.." First off, I've always been a curious person. I love getting to know people, learning about people, understanding different point of views, having my opinions changed and just learning what someone may think and being able to think as another person who is different from myself.

Also, besides that side of myself, my personality also shares qualities of a massive pervert, and a sadist, and many other things which I wishn't (yes, yes, I know.. It should be "wish not" but I like how it sounds, so please excuse my literary license. >.>) share publicly.

As for looks and other such things, I can see various problems which would arise regardless of how I looked so as long as I wasn't horribly deformed I guess I'd learn to deal. Dx And if I was, I'd hope I had the mental strength to get through that too.. I'm rather weak spirited. <.<;

P.S. I'm a guy.. I think. *Checks* Yep, physically a guy. At times (without intending so) I can be some what feminine though. >.<;

» sagesmith on March 31st, 2013, 11:48am

I'm a guy and yes

But only if I can change back! I love being a guy and I'd only want to be a girl for a short time.

And for all the guys who are like, "only desperate or gay guys would be to turn into girls"

It's called lesbian sex. The only thing better than me being with a girl is me being with a girl as a girl (at least, I'd want to try it once if I could.) biggrin

Interesting that most guys wouldn't want to change but a vast majority of girls would. Does it suck being a girl or is it just for the experience? I can't speak from experience but (periods and stuff excluded) it doesn't seem bad at all!

I'm a guy and I would definitely try it out, but hopefully the same magic makes it so noone notices (as much fun as hiding the fact is, rl is no manga). Of course, I would go dirty on myself some (I am a guy, hey), but I think there is a much richer experience if you go into the world and experience it as a girl a bit, who knows, I may like it and decide to stay that way, but that is hard to say, and I doubt it.

Actually, I am pretty sure the girls also have some dirty thoughts in their minds, but they just don't express them. We are all human after all.
Actually, I am pretty sure, if turned into guys, plenty of girls will try to date girls, no matter that they aren't lesbians to begin with (not necessarily for the dirty, mind you)... I maybe a bit cliche here, but I bet the dating as a guy is one of the big curiosities for girls.

For this new poll, I am a girl and yes I'd like to have a gender bender EXPERIENCE. not a lifetime thing but an experience in which I know will end at some point b/c in swapping genders, I can experience the different lifestyle of a man in society.

Each gender is restricted in some way b/c of society's cultural constructions of gender (what is feminine, what is masculine) so it'd be interesting to see first hand at what the other sex has to offer--the hardships, the opportunities, etc.

This is based on a more analytic approach i suppose

I am a female and yes, I would only if it was a temporary experience and not permanent. I have gender disorders as it is but am more gender fluid, so I could never choose to stay as just one gender. The only reason I choose to stay female is because it's what I've grown accustomed to and can't see it happening.

It'd be so interesting! I'd definitely do it! I wonder if the response is also due to social conditioning in that's it's seen as more okay for girls to appropriate traditionally masculine behavior than it is for guys? Wearing skirts vs pants, make-up vs football, menswear trend, etc. I think it'd be interesting to try, but I'm pretty happy I was born a girl. While there is a chance I'd be better adjusted/more attractive, the line between introversion and creepiness is pretty thin, it's quite likely I'd be closer to the latter as a guy.
