New Poll - Noise Reactions
This week's poll is from our member icassop. Do you react audibly to the manga that you read? I think I'll give a "wow" or "omg" every once in a while, but most of the time I'm pretty quiet when reading.

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Over the years, the average scanlation quality has...
Choices:
Improved significantly - votes: 4884 (47.9%)
Improved slightly - votes: 3063 (30.1%)
Stayed about the same - votes: 1668 (16.4%)
Dropped slightly - votes: 413 (4.1%)
Dropped significantly - votes: 162 (1.6%)
There were 10190 total votes.
The poll ended: August 30th 2013

In my opinion, editing and scan quality has gotten much better. Translations in general have gotten better. However, proofreading remains a problem for many groups.

I never gasp, squeal, curse, etc. when read manga, but I did quietly laugh and cry from time to time.

I chose Always.
If a manga is good I make all sorts of reactions and sometimes it creeps out people who are in the same room.

» FormX on August 30th, 2013, 11:53pm

"wow"
"seriously"
"you've gotta be kidding"
"no way"

Pretty much the only things I say (mouth), in order of frequency.

Only if it's a manga I really like. If I can really get into the plot, I show all kinds of reactions. Though I do hold back when I'm not alone biggrin

The only thing I do is laugh from time to time when it is a comedy.

thread

» NightSwan on August 31st, 2013, 3:24am

No, unless I laugh.
Or cry.....

I'm not especially prone to making noises of any kind, other than that.

thread

» PinkShippuden on August 31st, 2013, 3:36am

I do squeal and curse, but I don't 'gasp'.
I do sometimes cry and laugh too.
But all the reactions that I make, I try to keep them silent, unless i'm alone in the room, which is rare.
The only thing I do out loud is laugh laugh

i'm a very expressive person so i made all sorts of noise when i'm reading manga, books, watching tv, listening to radio, etc. i don't care about other people, i'm known to laugh out loud in public places while i'm reading books. when i'm very excited with a scene in a tv, i like to jump out of the couch and run around the room, i'm just too hype up.

i got reprimanded a lot, but i easily fall into the characters' emotions since i don't have that much opportunity to feel and express it IRL.

Where's the laugh out loud option?

thread

» Sapphiresky on August 31st, 2013, 5:06am

I'm infamous in my house for bursting out laughing in the dead of night. So yeah. biggrin

Other than laughing every now and then, no.

thread

» Vesey on August 31st, 2013, 7:36am

I've for sure gasped a few times here and there but other then that and the occasional chuckle I'm pretty quiet. I don't think I ever say words and definitely never squeal.

thread

» darkraiders on August 31st, 2013, 8:13am

If laughing is included in that then yes i do often, but other then that no, i don't do any weird sound while reading manga.

» BlackOrion on August 31st, 2013, 1:10pm

I curse a lot when a character behaves in a way that annoy me.

BUT, to be clear I react like that to every form of art, if good enough to cause a reaction. I can be a quite kind of person most of time, but i like to let my emotions lose while reading or even watching a picture or painting.

thread

» lynira on August 31st, 2013, 6:42pm

No, never. I'm not a very expressive person in general (I don't like making random emotion noises either), and especially not when I'm concentrating on reading a story.

Although, I will laugh out loud if something is funny enough (doesn't happen too often though), but it seems like the poll doesn't include laughing.

thread

» mysstris on August 31st, 2013, 6:49pm

Like others, I laugh mostly but rarely squeal. Usually there are more opportunities to gasp and cure, especially curse.

thread

» rexytheking on August 31st, 2013, 10:03pm

I squeal so much and I'm a guy. Destroying the gender stereotype here, and proud of it. Theres no way i can watch oreimo or read seishun forget and not squeal. If the scene is adorable enough then i honestly could care less what sounds i make.

All the time!! It's something I can't help! Some times I'm grinning like an idiot in front of my laptop, other times I'm shouting and calling characters idiots or assholes, many times I'm bawling my eyes out and almost always I'm laughing out loud. Most of the time my friends have to ask whats going on!! and my family is so use to it, they don't even ask about it anymore lol.

thread

» Badkarma on September 1st, 2013, 7:42pm

I don't think I've ever gasped, but yeah, I guess I'm guilty of the occasional physical reaction when I read.

I'd... like to say more, but I'd risk sounding like a weirdo, so I'll refrain...

I do burst out in short laughter every now and then but that's all.

thread

» crazyboutcute on September 5th, 2013, 10:43pm

Guilty as charged. wink I react to pretty much everything in life (usually audibly dead), so of course, manga, books, movies, TV, etc. are no exceptions. Usually when I read, it's restricted to laughing and groaning in annoyance/shouting at characters when they do stupid things. I don't usually squeal, though, unless the series is one I'm deeply invested in and there's a particularly heartwarming/heart-wrenching scene. Pandora Hearts really gets me going almost every chapter. cry

And yes, I do laugh and cry, unashamedly, when a good piece of writing compels me to. Sure, the story and characters may not be real, but the emotions they evoke in me certainly are. eyes
