New Poll - Pokemon
This week's Pokemon movie poll is from our member Monkey_Fist. All the movies listed are from the Wikipedia article, although I haven't seen most of them... If I remember, I'll make a Pokemon game poll next week.

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: When you watch a foreign (non-English) show or movie, what method would you most choose to watch it?
Choices:
The original language's dub / subs - votes: 1492 (13.6%)
The English subs - votes: 7966 (72.5%)
The subs of another language - votes: 413 (3.8%)
The English dub - votes: 361 (3.3%)
The dub of another language - votes: 79 (0.7%)
Whatever is available or is easiest to obtain - votes: 444 (4%)
Don't care which - votes: 160 (1.5%)
I never watch foreign shows or films - votes: 71 (0.6%)
There were 10986 total votes.
The poll ended: September 28th 2013

Subs for the win! Too bad most anime isn't sold as sub-only in the US...

You pick that for poll? eek
I am not fan of Pokemon (never watched) but I think there's still better choice for the poll than it.

-Merrie Melodies
-Popeye
-The Road Runner Show
-The adventure of Tintin
-The Bugs Bunny Show

No, you're just being regional. I've seen some Popeye and Tintin, but not on TV. They've probably did show them, but not regularly. Though I haven't watched Pokemon movies either.

This is a manga forum so it's reasonable to assume most here are familiar with Pokemon. If you're only familiar with some of the choices how do you go about picking your "favourite childhood cartoon" among them? This poll is about favourite Pokemon including option of hating them and never watching any of them.

"Favourite childhood cartoon" is completely different kind of poll, not comparable to this one, and I don't see why it would be better unless by better you mean more to your liking. Regional because all on the list were from United States. Forget about favourite childhood cartoon, they aren't my childhood cartoon in the first place.

Seriously, if you check my reply, I left some -.... to other people fill it with cartoons from across the world (I can only remember from my childhood cartoons something like Woody the Woodpecker, Droppy, Felix the Cat, and such) since I didn't have a satellite dish at that time (invented in 2004, and my childhood is way long before that). So I simply don't know anything what kind of cartoons in the other countries.

I don't live in USA (more accurately, I don't live in Americas continent) but in my country, those cartoons were aired so I conclude that other country in the world did the same, and don't lie to me! I know it's the fact! I don't know where you live, but if it's true those aren't your childhood cartoons, that's too bad.

Quote from 狂気
"Favourite childhood cartoon" is completely different kind of poll

Never once I call it the same, I simply reply to the one who said that it's everyone's childhood. I just give an example poll that cover and extend the scope of everyone's childhood cartoons. Of course I think it's better or is it you really think forcing more than 30% people to vote never watched and many people (only God knows how much exactly) leaving no choice to vote for first pokemon movie just because they only watched that is better?

Ever since I was adolescent I only watch news (already mentioned here) but I am still learn from videos (such National Geographic, Animal Face-off, Naked Science, or presentation video). So I don't know a thing about anime, movie, and cartoons (except from my childhood) or whatsoever. I just don't have many time, while I can just skimming and scanning when read manga, that doesn't work well in videos.

If any of you want to continue to discuss it to me, please just send me a private message for just the two of us so that I don't have to hold my (rather harsh) words.

not mine. I never watched a pokemon movie, or even sat through a whole episode of the show. I remember when pokemon was popular in America. All of my friends were collecting the cards, but my parents wouldn't buy me any because they thought they were a waste of money. in the end, they were right.

anyway I am torn between celebi and Lucario movie
Celebi won in term of cinematic, it caught more moment than Lucario does.
I remember the Kanto-Johto Movie is all good movie,

The recent movie is meh, I don't even watch them anymore due to dismisnishing interest with Pokemon Anime
they lack in catching the moment, cinematic quality.

And I'm not sure what you're hinting at with that second paragraph

Mewtwo Strikes Back. I remember back then I didn't even know it was a movie and was wondering why the episode was so long. Oh, and I agree this poll is a bit too specific. I'm a huge pokemon fan and I only watched two of those. I like pokemon for the games not the animation

wow so many haters. This week's poll is not as bad as last week's imo. That been said, I've only seen the first 4 + Lucario. Don't remember much from the 2nd one and I found Pokemon 4ever pretty boring, so I just went with the 3rd movie since I had that on tape and love the legendary dogs. The lucario movie was actually pretty good from memory, for any fans that haven't seen it.

Except, that is, Movie 3, The Spell of the Unown, because that is a FAN-TAS-TIC movie for everybody, all-ages, Pokémon-fan or not. Just a heartwarming slash heart-wrenching drama with epicness and character development and heck, we don't even have any Ash=Messiah bullsh*t in this one! Definitely the best one.

BTW, if you haven't seen those reviews yet, you're missing out on something great:

Oh come one guys, I'll agree it's not the best poll in the world and doesn't work for everyone, but it's fun for some and I'd prefer 'hit or miss' polls than skipping them altogether.

It's pretty obvious the first one will win simply because it's probably the most seen, I somehow saw the first four, I almost voted for the fourth (which just came on TV one day) because it surprised me how much it didn't suck, not saying it was good I didn't even finish it.

In the end I still voted for the first movie because it's fun in so bad it's good, have a few beers and attempt your own MST3k way. It has a perfect balance being bad enough that you can make fun of it without being too bad it bores you like the second and third. Especially the third, seriously I saw that one when I babysat a cousin of mine years ago it was one of the most painful movie watching experiences of my life. I don't see how someone else thinks it's the only good one, unless there's a gargantuan difference between the sub & dub or something like that.

Same here. I still remember the experience of going to the theater and getting that ancient mew card they gave out. I was extremely invested in Pokemon at the time (as was everyone my age where I lived), and seeing my favorite show on a big theater screen with the theater atmosphere was incredible. (Okay, that sounds silly now, but to an 8-year-old, that's as good as it gets.) The first season of Pokemon was such a big part of my childhood that the nostalgic charm of the first movie is more than enough to make it my favorite Pokemon movie. It's probably silly to like a movie based on nostalgia alone (admittedly, Mewtwo Strikes Back wasn't a very good quality movie, at least in my opinion), but I'm a pretty nostalgic person.

Cut him a little slack. It's common for a couple people to post not-especially-friendly complaints almost every week about the weekly poll he chooses. Week after week of that for a couple years would start to bother anyone, so don't take it personally if he's not that receptive of criticism about poll choice.

The Power of One (Pokemon: The Movie 2000)

The only one I remember watching (because I have the DVD my uncle bought for my siblings and I). I think I watched the Mewtwo in theaters as well but it's uncertain since I don't remember. I do have the card that people mentioned about Mewtwo.

Well, pokemon was and still my childhood. I can still remember watching mewtwo strikes back in the movies with my family, it was truly touching. I also remember pokemon the game (blue/red) was famous at the time and I always used to carry my blue to school to play.I also remember my little bro and I collecting the trading cards and had NO clue how to play lol. Out of all those movies posted, I've watched 10 of them so far, and to tell you the truth they're not so bad.

Also, I don't even see the big deal for so much people to complain, if you don't like it, or never watched it, just don't vote and move on with your lives.

I'm not surprised that 1/3 of voluntary voters didn't watch the movies but I'm surprised by some who say they never participated in the culture of Pokemon in some way. If you were a child of the 1990s, growing up in the early 2000s, you should know. My cousin who was born in the late 1980s was also one of those people who pawned off his "shiny" cards for money too!

But what I don't understand the most is how some people are so critical of this poll and the franchise. Dude, pokemon is still on-going for over a decade. Even though the trading card game is completely different, and I think they're just milking for profits, the fact that they have been reinventing it over and over again to continue to appeal to the younger audience, I find that amazing since this is pretty much the only thing today that remains from my childhood (everything else was and has been, never again except for Disney). I think it deserves a pretty good amount of respect for the way it's been going and still continuing to go.

Didn't expect there would be a poll about Pokemon Movies laugh (childhood indeed)
I'm having a hard time picking on which should be the most favorite among them all, since there are maybe about five of them I liked most, even though so far I have watched up to its 13th Movie. (Yeah I have plans on watching all of its movies, since there are interesting parts about it) unlike its seasons, which is I am very far behind dead especially its very long on-going series..... Which I somehow ended watching the movies, with some confusion as to the new characters come and go... but doesn't matter roll eyes and never aging ash ketchum laugh (The power of cartoons)
In my opinion the movies are worthy to watch than the series, besides having its own plot it have some sense as to the progress of the story which revolves about Pokemon's history or it being mysterious. smile

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Just my own picked
1. Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew
2. Pokemon Heroes: Latios and Latias
3. The Power of One (Pokemon: The Movie 2000)
4. Pokemon 4Ever: Celebi - Voice of the First
5. Pokemon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life

(Bwuahaha! at least it could be consider one of my greatest achievement? that is to watch all the movies ;) )
