New Poll - Time Spent
This week's poll was suggested by our member Tripitaka. On average how much time per week do you spend doing stuff like reading manga, watching anime, using MangaUpdates, discussing on forums about manga, making cosplay, attending conventions, etc? Up to you in what you consider a manga-related or anime-related activity. Even administering this site takes some time...

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Easily 40+, assuming "general scanlation work" is included.

If not, then 2-5 hours max.

Holy crap I didn't even think about scanlating. Good point. So many hours on scanlating, let alone the time I kill when I come on here and watching all the anime airing that the moment.
Easily 40+

I selected 40+ hours ....
It's about 7 hours a day.

It's all mostly reading manga, wait no it's all just reading manga.

For times that it's watching anime ... it would be the same 40+ hours. I tend to go on long marathons when I watch anime.

Those are my normal weekly time spent when I'm in the mood to read/watch manga/anime. (Otherwise it would be less than 2 hours because I wouldn't read or watch anything.)

Watching Marathons of anime are really nice, it's also for reading manga.
But reading 40+ hours might give troubles for marathons later on...
When you can't find a serie that you want to read.
Their is a lot of overated stuff and a lot of underated treasures that are hard to find.

My week is already fantastic when I can add a new series to my lists of masterpieces. (If you checked everything that is interesting in the top ratings it gets difficult to find those treasures.

And the most difficult ones to find are those that start of weak and become suddenly fantastic. laugh

Edit: re-reading is not really my thing (except for the paper versions), the problem is when I start re-reading I suddenly know everything that will come.

I spend about 3-4 hrs straight reading manga at night, and I check for updates like every 30 mins during the day, reading whichever of my follows that gets released. Per week it would average between 30-40 hrs. It used to be much more than this, perhaps 50+, but I don't have as much free time anymore.

2-5, used to be so much more laugh

thread

» BaeSooky on January 11th, 2014, 6:38pm

2-3 hrs~ Used to be a whole lot more.

I think I spend more time on these forums than I do on actual manga and anime. Does that still count? laugh

Easily 40+ hours,
kinda focusing on anime, had so much piled up on my plan to watch list..

5-10 hours

I read manga or watch anime for about 30 to 60 minutes at breakfast every morning before work.

After work, I spend the rest of my free time with my true love.....

Video games.

2-5 hours.don't have much free time these days
i read around 10-20 minutes a chapter (including download)
and looking for new release takes only less than 30 minutes
in average less than an hour a day
except when for whatever reason i have urge to hunt certain something.

i probably spend 5-10 hours a week on reading manga and watching anime. when i first started getting into anime i would spend all of my free time having anime marathons. the same goes for when i became obsessed with manga. all of my free time was spent reading entire series in succession. so during that time it was easily over 40 hours a week. now, i have a harder time finding anime and manga that i'm into. lately i've been doing tv show marathons instead.

Didn't select the last one, doesn't have much time these days.. at school the whole time. like from 6.30am-4pm (that's almost 10h!!), sleep 12pm-5am.. fml, I even go to schools at weekend for competitions... the rest of the time, is eat, going somewhere, browsing..

But hey, if you include the time doodling manga at school I passed 40 by far biggrin

thread

» Hanae on January 12th, 2014, 8:55am

Right now it's less than 2 hours. I don't watch anime anymore, and since I can't find any manga worth reading, I only read manga when a new chapter of a series I follow comes out. Just like BaeSooky, I think browsing this forum is the manga-related activity on which I spend the most time

thread

» nightazday on January 12th, 2014, 5:24pm

Every time my reading list says there's a new chapter out I drop whatever I'm doing and read it. When a series catches my fancy I usually never stop until I catch up with the scanlations that are out. On time I spent weeks on end re-reading One Piece.

thread

» RoxFlowz on January 13th, 2014, 1:11am

1.5 hours every day probably (considering all manga related stuff). It used to be a lot more, but I'm currently on a long break from watching anime (though I plan to catch up someday laugh ) and I can't allow myself to spend too much time on reading manga.

thread

» psycho-shocker on January 15th, 2014, 6:23am

Less than two hours per week. If you add light novel, it will be 5-10 hours per week.

thread

» butako chan on January 16th, 2014, 12:00am

I probably spend over 40 hours a week on average. Even with a busy school schedule, I try to make as much time as I can for manga related activities. With reading manga, watching anime, drawing, and cosplays it's easily surpasses 40 hours a week.

I'd bet a good sum of money that anyone voting 30-40+ hours is a scanlator.

It's like a second job.

Lol nice joke about last week's poll "curves of that bell" xD

As for manga, I'm guessing people are joshing that they spend as much as some people do at work (i.e. 8 hours a day from 8 am to 4pm, 5 days a week at least)? No offense because I find it hard to believe that it's in the majority right now even if they're scanlators.

thread

» spazzmatron on January 17th, 2014, 10:12pm

i spend 10-13 hours a day on manga and anime and i'm not a scanlator...part of me is saying "god, i need a life" none
but the other part is like "no...read, watch, be happy" biggrin
