New Poll - Cosplay Opposites
This week's poll was a suggestion from our member butako chan. Would you cosplay as a character from the opposite gender? Perhaps you already have. Or maybe you'll never cosplay at all... (I personally fall in this latter camp). But ya, poll away!

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)

I don't cosplay.
but i don't really mind if i did.
it'll be interesting.

» CatzCradle on May 10th, 2014, 12:48am

I already do cosplay, but the only time I've crossplayed was when I was Charles Grey from Kuroshitsuji. xD

» RoxFlowz on May 10th, 2014, 1:19am

I would, if I did cosplay. Costs too much money and time atm no

» SilverStorm on May 10th, 2014, 1:46am

If I did cosplay, I'd probably only cosplay as the opposite gender... I don't have too many favorite female characters, and the ones that do are either "ordinary people" or crossdress in the manga. xD

» tactics on May 10th, 2014, 2:05am

I don't think I'd mind cosplaying a male character if I did actually cosplay. I don't have the time or effort to make costumes though. I'd rather put the money going into a costume towards a figurine or something too.

» forgottenone666 on May 10th, 2014, 3:04am

Well I've never cosplayed but if I did I could see myself crossplaying at least once. I like cute outfits so I'd have a lot of good choices to pick from. Besides my legs are nice enough to look good in a skirt so it'd be a shame if I didn't show them off at least once. laugh

I think an extremely important part - gender of the one answering - is missing from the poll.
Please change it so that the options are differentiated on that basis, too.

I think it would be interesting to see this too. I feel like girls wouldn't really mind cosplaying as a male, but guys might be more opposed to cosplaying as a female.

Anyway, I would dress as the opposite sex if I did cosplay, but I don't and I don't have any plans to do it in the immediate future. For me, it would be too much effort.

» Knightzomegaz on May 10th, 2014, 8:33am

No, never the opposite gender if the character isn't cool and is just cute, kuh??
Should you even ask?? Lol

But I wanna do something like Vincent Valentine....

Where's the 'It depends on the Character' option....

» Sogno on May 10th, 2014, 9:40am

if i had means/money to cosplay, i'd definitely do opposite gender. i'm pretty much flat chested so it would be easy haha

» scarletrhodelia on May 10th, 2014, 9:57am

My answer was missing - "I wouldn't if I did cosplay." I don't cosplay right now, but I plan to sometime, and I would not cosplay of the opposite gender. It just doesn't appeal to me. The closest I might get to that would be a crossdressing female character.

I'm struck by how few people say they are cosplaying. The poll is young, and that might change.

» Horn on May 10th, 2014, 12:20pm

That'd be my answer too. I don't cosplay, but if I did (it would be funny), I'd likely still stick to my gender.

Kinda feels like the options here are a little too limited.

Same here—I've thought about cosplaying before, but even then, I can't see myself ever dressing as a male character.

» Cherelle Ashlee on May 10th, 2014, 1:39pm

If someone gave me the costume, I'll wear it proudly ^^, until then, I probably wont spend any money on costumes especially now when I'm a struggling student :/.

» eccentrrick on May 10th, 2014, 7:49pm

I did once! I went as Azure Kite and my sister went as Haseo. Lets just say... I was too "cute."

I'll stick to my cute girly cosplays. :3

» calstine on May 10th, 2014, 8:52pm

I have no interest in cosplay whatsoever. The way I see it, cosplaying is about identifying with a character to the point that you feel one with them. I don't think I've ever seen a person in a work of fiction who resembles me in any way other than superficially.

And as for cross-gender cosplay... I'm pretty sure no straight guy worth his salt would cosplay as a woman, but there are probably plenty of girls (though not all) who don't mind dressing up as guys. If I were the type to cosplay, I know I wouldn't mind portraying a male character.

» kaloo on May 10th, 2014, 11:14pm

I agreed to dress as a girl as part of a group costume, though that fell through. I don't think I could do one that shows a lot of leg. I'm rather hairy and I don't want to be that guy.

» butako chan on May 11th, 2014, 11:46am

I spend a lot of time and money on cosplay, but I have never cosplayed as the opposite gender. Cosplaying a lot of fun, but I could never identify with a male character enough to cosplay as them. Most of my favourite characters are male though.

I'm surprised the number of people who cosplay are so low. Whenever I go to conventions, it's brimming with people. I didn't realize it was such a small fraction of the community.

» pandasamurai on May 11th, 2014, 5:52pm

It's surprisingly few because cosplaying is such an expensive hobby. I personally want to cosplay because it seems like such an exciting activity, to dress up and mimic a character. However, I can put the effort into acting like a character, but alas, I have no money to afford the apparel. Money is probably the second largest reason why people don't cosplay, just behind disinterest in dressing up as a character. Conventions are also quite expensive, so most people who go there likely have enough in their wallet to get their costumes. That's my opinion eyes

» AliceinAmestris on May 11th, 2014, 7:40pm

I am an avid cosplayer and specifically save up extra money for materials and such to cosplay. Though I have been doing it for 5 years I have yet to crossplay but I will eventually. I have a list of characters I want to cosplay and half of them are male so its's basically that I haven't gotten around to cosplaying them yet.

» mysstris on May 11th, 2014, 11:03pm

I don't think there is a problem to cosplay the opposite gender as that isn't much of a stigma for girls to be tomboys but of course, that is if I did cosplay. I've never thought of doing it.

» Banarok on May 12th, 2014, 4:52am

well i think i look too masculine to ever cosplay a female character, the fit is just bad.
