Plot/Story
"In this world there are seven Dragon Balls which, when all brought together, summon the legendary dragon Shenron (Shen Long), who grants the one who gathered the balls together one wish, and then disappears for a year, scattering the Dragon Balls across the world with him. A young teenage girl named Bulma hopes to use find these Dragon Balls, and finds one of the balls in the hands of a mysterious boy with a monkey tail known as Son Goku, twelve years old and living out on his own. But Goku does not want to part with his ball, so Bulma recruits him to find the rest of them with her. Together they'll bump into many strange friends and enemies, on their quest to find all seven Dragon Balls."

Characters
Although this was one of the first full Manga's I read, the characters were brilliant, unlike it's sucessor, Dragonball's characters were relaxed, from perverted teachers to bumbling enemies, anyone with a funny bone will find at least one character they like and is respectful of every character designed, even giving very small side characters a chance to shine now and then.

Drawing/Quality Rating
As most of you know, Dragonball is an old series, and it blatently shows, super deformed characters, sketchy artwork, but then for a weekly manga written in 1984, it does quite well and is at least consistant.

Enjoyment
Laugh out loud funny, slightly perverted and toilet humour comes and goes, but it's never cheap and it's never overused.
Has a great continuing story that seems to go on forever (508 chapters!)
Also is brilliant with suspense in fights, but does not make them go on too long.

Overall

IF you love comedy, read this, don't be put off by the fighting legacy that the Dragonball series has, it's comedy first and a classic at that!

Not so much by Zoro on November 23rd, 2011, 1:17am Rating: 3.3

If you're gonna quote the plot from somewhere, maybe it's included in the actual manga, you may want to include after the quote where you borrowed it from. I'd like to know as well.

Anyways, the impression you have for this series seems very biased, the same with the previous review for dragonball. It's also a shame you didn't review the series as a whole instead of just referring to the 'Z' sagas, because in actuality they are one in the same.

Brief comments aren't going to make me like a review or even give the reader any insight in what they're getting themselves into if they plan to pick up this series (who hasn't read it anyways). If there's a chance for something more in depth, and not just going crazy with the ratings, than it'd be worthwhile, otherwise you can package this series up along with the rest of the overrated shounen out there.

ok good rewiev, however I would rate the arts better. Old doesn't equal lame. AT's style is (belive it or not) very uniqe, considering it is a manga after all. The story on the other hand isn't worth 5/5. 3/5 at best. I could agree the first 12 volumes to 4/5 but not the rest.

And remember. The manga was never called DBZ in Japan. only in the states was the manga called DBZ after volume 16. (but the anime is called DBZ in the entire world after ep 154). And that part of the manga is weaker considering the story and humor, but better considering the action.
