Musashi Quality looking for occasional cleaning help
(4 posts, 2997 views) Posted: 3000d 9h, 47m ago by unnes in Recruitment
Yep, it's Bill Murray from the terrific movie Lost in Translation.

And yes, Photoshop is the de facto standard tool for cleaning and redrawing, thanks to its versatility with layers and various filters and brushes/pens. You could get by with other programs like GI ...

We've found our guy!

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Surprise! We're not looking for a translator or full-time "WE NEED THIS RIGHT NOW DAMMIT" help.

But sometimes here at Musashi Quality, our release pipeline gets a little clogged as a result ...
Manga Distributor Target of Frequent Hacking
(11 posts, 736 views) Posted: 3033d 23h, 40m ago by unnes in News
Last I spoke to magicbulletgirl, the identity was pretty much obvious -- only one person would want to hack her site and delete scans... and that's her competition for releasing Detective Conan. I'm not going to name names, but the specificity with which ...

I can't help but make a parallel between this and the attempts by the record companies to sell music online back in the heyday of Napster and Share via overpriced and crippled services. It's like this company realized that "Hey, there are a lot of ...

I missed the Death Note reference...

There were two references to Death Note, actually. The first was when Nagi is putting her manga back on the bookshelf. You can see that she drew in a notebook entitled "Death Note". That's the obvio ...
Hayate The Combat Butler Question(Viz media version)
(30 posts, 7874 views) Posted: 3405d 3h, 31m ago by unnes in Hayate the Combat Butler
Hayate has an incredible number of references in each chapter. We try to make notes on all of them, but inevitably we'll miss a few.

For example, in just the last chapter we scanlated (ch. 50), there were references to:

1) Titanic
2) Death Note
3) Genshiken
4) M ...
Who will our butler-in-debt end up with?

I voted Hinagiku because I like her, but I'm pretty certain he'll either end up with nobody or with Nagi. ...
Highlighting by Scanlator
(1 posts, 686 views) Posted: 3413d 18h, 14m ago by unnes in Suggestions & Bugs
I'm not sure how feasible this would be, but it would be pretty cool to be able to highlight releases by scanlator. I know I tend to keep an eye on certain groups' work, especially those that translate doujinshii and one-shots (like Gaku Gaku and D-W). Sinc ...

Manga List

Another suggestion regarding the manga list, perhaps also tied in with series stats:

It would be cool to have a way to see how many people have each series on each of their respective lists. You'd be able to see how many people are currently listed as rea ...

That's the way it originally worked.. but then people suggested that I make it so that it works with the title you submit, which made more sense to me.

Manga List Bug Topic
(1539 posts, 198445 views) Posted: 3439d 3h, 9m ago by unnes in Suggestions & Bugs
Only potential bug I've found is that when you add a title by an alternative name (e.g. Chibi Vampire for Karin... ack), it shows up in the list with that name, and not the accepted primary name. I suppose you could get around this by adding the name you prefer, b ...

Any good tutorials?
(11 posts, 7560 views) Posted: 3456d 9h, 16m ago by unnes in Chatter Box
I've seen my fair share of editing tutorials, but most of them are overly simple and tell you common-sense things that anyone who's toyed with Photoshop knows how to do.

p00k has an excellent editing tutorial here, where I picked up a number of tips. I ...

Tooting my own horn a bit here, but Musashi Quality is also scanlating Hayate now. We're working off sharp scans of the original Japanese, so you might want to check out our versions as well.

We just released chapter 42, and 43 is forthcoming. ...
