Translations to English
(14 posts, 302 views) Posted: 10d 8h, 22m ago by wolfinthesheep in Manga General
Basically...

- Completely literal translations don't read very well.
- Words can have multiple meanings and interpretations.
- Phrasing needs to be twisted if you want to evoke secondary meanings (like puns or double entendre).

And, some unfortunate truths...

- A tr ...

Romance between Two Main Chars, (Not the Leads)
(8 posts, 331 views) Posted: 82d 4h, 52m ago by wolfinthesheep in Manga General
I like series where non-lead characters aren't just superfluous props. Having some kind of romance among side characters is part of being an actual character.

It annoys me even more when everything always has to revolve around the lead. ...

Well, Earth Girls is prehistoric...but it's also yuri, and fairly smutty, and not very serious. ...

No- The series you listed were all made, produced, and animated in america;
They were only translated and dubbed in korea- like what companies such as funimation do with japanese anime in america.

Dubbing an already existing anime ...

Quote from stasindigo
Maybe because it's difficult for Korea to make animations. So far ROK produced just a small number of animated series(and most of them are not base on Manhwas). Assumed that Koreans have limited animation productivity, in othe ...
Trying to remember two horror mangas...
(3 posts, 162 views) Posted: 84d 9h, 53m ago by wolfinthesheep in I'm Looking For...
Can't remember the names of two mangas that I'd read.

First was a Shoujo that was a collection of oneshots. A recurring character is a ghost girl who's missing her lower body.

Second was a Seinen, main character was a spirit medium who ...

Quote from KaoriNite
I apologize if I was wrong, but I was under the impression that religion wasn't very important to most Japanese people. I know that there is Buddhism and Shinto, but I didn't know that it was of major importance to their lives.

Question about Gay for the japanese
(13 posts, 914 views) Posted: 140d 9h, 31m ago by wolfinthesheep in Chatter Box
Why is it surprising? Asian culture is absolutely notorious about sculpting everyone to fit into the norm.

The issue isn't "religious" in the same way that Western culture swing the bible as a cudgel. In places like Korea, China, and Japan it's e ...
can u bear to read long shonen with no girls?
(138 posts, 13165 views) Posted: 158d 9h, 7m ago by wolfinthesheep in Shounen/Seinen
Yes and no. My issue generally isn't a problem with "no girls", it's the randomly enforced lack of opposite gender. Plus an all male lineup just forces a yaoi fanbase, which is irritating.

I have much the same problem with manga with absolu ...

I don't see how H2 or Rough, or any Adachi manga, have "technically unskilled" endings. H2's ending gave every bit of closure that was necessary...they graduated, the romances were wrapped up, the Koshien tournament was finished, ...

Mahou Sensei Negima is extremely good about small details in the beginning that become shockingly relevant as the series progresses, and there are lot of things that seem like throwaway gags that are actually foreshadowing. If you read through a second time ...
Yuri for Girls

In general, most Yuri mangas without adult content usually have some appeal to female demographics. Once you avoid the ones that are pure fanservice, the differences are really just "shallow and short", "cute and silly" and "serio ...
