As Japanese, curious about people doing scanlation and reading them
(26 posts, 2747 views) Posted: 87d 10h, 29m ago by -shiratori- in Manga General
I'm a scanlator; I'm in my mid-20s, but am still in education, so I have enough free time to spend on translating manga.

I think what has drawn me towards manga and scanlation as a non-Japanese person is the Japanese concept of "cute", w ...

I've been reading quite a few LNs recently and I noticed that they always describe beautiful girls with "big eyes" and "snow-white" skin. I know this is a standard of beauty in Asian countries ...

For me, it's not that they are horrible, its more that the selection criteria seem to be quite narrow. In comparison, the selection available in scanlation is much broader in terms of generes and target demographics. This is something that ...

One of the things that I could not really explain in detail in my thesis is the issue of motivation. There is a motivation to read scanlations (maybe because there is no other way to get some manga series) and there is a motivation to scanlate, which is different, b ...
Be able to search using Japanese characters
(5 posts, 510 views) Posted: 174d 13h, 51m ago by -shiratori- in Suggestions & Bugs
If you use the search box on the start page, it only searches for released scanlations, which naturally don't have Japanese titles. You need to click on "Go" and then use the "Title" search. I just recently learned that as well lol. ...

Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese?

Do you want to translate manhua or manga translated in Chinese?

I do not care about SPEAKING the language because I realized that Chinese characters are not based on phonetics (sounds), so learning how to write does not help you learn how to speak. ...

Yeah, I think white skin looks more feminine.

I'm not sure how it is among other people, but there's also a noticeable sex difference in skin tone among the Japanese. The women are a bit lighter-skinned and the men a bit darker. Probably a product of m ...

If it's a DMCA issue, they should try making the site private with access through registration only. Maybe ban Japanese IP addresses too.

Publishers don't care much for English scans hosted online, but the Japanese raws are a thorn in their side. ...

There should be poll options for yaoi and yuri though, since I'm sure all the fujoshis not voting is distorting the results. ...
