How much work do redrawers/cleaners do?
(13 posts, 1347 views) Posted: 186d 3h, 22m ago by Arigatomina in Manga General
Quote from nakie08
What you're referring to is the job of a cleaner. Redrawers remove texts that are slapped into the art, like narations etc.

I've never worked with a group that separated cleaners and redrawers. I always took redrawing to be part ...
Discussion: Why do Semes often say about the uke "You're not cute!"/"This is not cute..."/etc. ?

Quote from KaoriNite
I actually have a bigger problem with the word "cute" being used at all. When I think of the word "cute", I usually think of kids or puppies or something like that. I don't really think of my crushes as cute.

This.

I' ...
Titles on signature pages
(5 posts, 287 views) Posted: 296d 7h, 18m ago by Arigatomina in Manga General
I think they should. Crediting the original artist of the picture they're using should be as natural as listing the artist of the project they scanlated. At the very least they should include the artist's name. When most groups I know use fanart they make sur ...
Why are some manga titles romanized?
(5 posts, 455 views) Posted: 301d 0h, 56m ago by Arigatomina in Manga General
From a scanlator's perspective, it's better to list it by the Japanese title because different groups may translate it differently. If you want to know for sure whether or not the series has been scanlated already, it's best to search by the Japanes ...
Scanlation etiquette.
(5 posts, 648 views) Posted: 316d 15h, 44m ago by Arigatomina in Manga General
I've never heard of a doujinka who reacted positively to scanlations of her work. Just the opposite. The way it usually goes is that the doujinka notices scanlations, gets angry, and starts threatening to stop making doujinshi altogether if people don't s ...
Translations
(4 posts, 275 views) Posted: 331d 6h, 51m ago by Arigatomina in Manga General
If you translate word for word it probably won't make much sense in English. Don't be afraid to reformat the sentence structure and to add in the subject as necessary. A literal translation will give things like "store to went" instead of " ...
online reader hate
(42 posts, 3157 views) Posted: 335d 15h, 35m ago by Arigatomina in Manga General
These are the days where web-packages come with unlimited space and bandwidth. One ad each on a few hundred pages with a low visiting count would be enough to cover that. It's the server that will cost them and with all of the manga chapters that are ...
Why Mangafox is evil and why you shouldn't read on it.

When a group is dead, the only "rules" I continue to follow are the ones about not sharing a licensed project they' ...

Furthermore it's unlikely they will change since the alternatives of downloading, visiting dozens different scanlators's homepages or waiting rather long for the pictures to load seem to be quite on the disadvantaged side to me.

Which scanlation job is hardest to find?

well i'm sorry, I've only been a korean translator for scanlation group that did both manga and manwha. I never realized there was such urgency for japanses translator. at least, I never felt it. all the scanlation group alway ...

Raw provider. When you don't use other people's scans without permission it's hard to find people willing and able to provide high quality raws. You can learn to fill any position with practice, but you need money to purchase the original books, ...
Trying to Start a Doujinshi Scanlation Team
(1 posts, 497 views) Posted: 367d 18h, 18m ago by Arigatomina in Recruitment
Is this actually a recruitment post or are you just asking for advice?

Plenty of groups and freelancers work exclusively with doujinshi. Unless you're planning to do unpopular pairings and lesser known series, you can expect to run into a lot of conflict with tho ...
2+ groups doing one manga?
(5 posts, 555 views) Posted: 438d 18h, 14m ago by Arigatomina in Manga General
Quote from TaoPaiPai
If i like naruto, bleach, and one piece, why in gods name would/should i bother with translating something else?

That's the best explanation a group can give, in my opinion.

Even if each series was only done by one scanlation group, there ...
What is the "cute" thing is all about ?
(8 posts, 587 views) Posted: 447d 6h, 2m ago by Arigatomina in Manga General
Innocence is appealing in Japan, which is why so many females there emphasize their youth by talking in the childish third person. The school girl uniform fetish is another example of this. When you extend it to anime, you get the moe style and beautiful = cute = child ...

I'm just the opposite. I prefer Asian girls (or ukes) paired with blonde guys. Red hair works, too, especially if the other character has blue hair. I just seem to have a quirk for warm colors topping cool colors. Maybe because I feel sorry for the soggy pers ...

Why Manga Reader Sites Are Not Okay

The only way I can see a solution to the problem is for all scan groups to get online readers, because a lot of people don't want to download, which is the only option most scanlators give.

Using readonline options in addition to downl ...

It's not as if you'd loose money since the scans are free to begin with. And I don't see any organization or whatever actively taking down unlicensed mangas.

Two points: Scans are not free. Unless the scanner stole that bo ...

It does take longer to clean a chapter of webtoon than translating it.

I don't doubt that. But even if every bit of text is on top of art that has to be redrawn, in color just to make it more complicated, it should still not take longer to do one pa ...
Quality vs. Speed (mangapirate case)
(301 posts, 33891 views) Posted: 560d 6h, 0m ago by Arigatomina in Manga General
Considering how few people in this thread can write in legible English, we're probably lucky that any translations are readable these days.

I don't know either of the groups that are fighting and I don't care. When getting a scanlation, my primary ...
Any old people from old times still around?
(10 posts, 973 views) Posted: 562d 10h, 51m ago by Arigatomina in Manga General
The biggest differences are that scanlations are more readily available now and they're easier to do, both of which can be blamed on the changes to the internet - google, and the shift to free file hosts and livejournal, which anyone can use without spending ...
Should manga aggregator sites be allowed to use mangaupdates for their means of advertising?

Should manga aggregator sites be allowed to use mangaupdates for their means of advertising?
(36 posts, 6105 views) Posted: 586d 7h, 5m ago by Arigatomina in Manga General
Any scanlation group can post ads on their site in order to make a profit. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to list their releases here. The database is to list scanlations. If they scanlated them, they belong here.

I would have no issues if MU ...
