Description
They arrive in silence and darkness. They descend from the skies. They have a hunger for human flesh. They are everywhere. They are parasites, alien creatures who must invade - and take control of - a human host to survive. And once they have infected their victims, they can assume any deadly form they choose: monsters with giant teeth, winged demons, creatures with blades for hands. But most have chosen to conceal their lethal purpose behind ordinary human faces. So no one knows their secret - except an ordinary high school student. Shin is battling for control of his own body against an alien parasite, but can he find a way to warn humanity of the horrors to come?
Won the Seiun Award for Best Comic of the Year in 1996.
Its a long time since i first had seen this manga, but I never read it thinking that it dident look that great. But I was completely wrong. Its a great manga. Original in its ways and wil even make you think over some moral questions, like how we should treat other species and so on. Good plot, action, characters and you also have an okey romance in this.
It had some flaws but it was never uninteresting and i never jumpet a page.
Sad manga indeed.thank god that it hasn’t got stereotypes like wimpy male lead and instead has a normal human.Good fast read since it’s not very complex in it’s most part and one of the best interpretation of parasitic invasions and human psychology in a manga I have read.
Different manga of this type that you may like:Aflame Inferno,Guardian Dog,Gantz,Kamunagara. They are all great.
i feel like the author didnt even bother to see the grief and pain the parasytes spread, she/he was more concerned with showing the parasytes mutilating humans. teens were massacred and not one parent protested oir tried to take their kids from a school where such horrors occurred. who the heck would allow their child to go to a school where kids bodies were mutilated the columbine and other school shootings caused massive changes and grief, but none of the students were affected they just carried on.
The start was good although strange. This author gives some kind of sensation of lack of emotion in the characters he draws though the realism is splendid. In the middle part it gets kind of boring and I think i didn't stop the reading cause the next chapters where already translated. But when you reach volume 8 the flow begins to change and all the battle and action and emotions make you enjoy the story a lot. And the last volume is what you'd call superb, every part of it. So i'd say it is a good read if you can stand the art and keep going till the end that left me plenty satisfied.
This is definately an awsome manga, but a word of caution-- it is graphic. It starts out almost cute, but very quickly gets rough. For squeamish people like me its torture because the story is good enough to keep me coming back, and the violence is enough to keep me up. Definately have lost sleep over this one. But if you can stomach some gore, and don't read it right before bed, truely captivating.
Nice pacing, always interesting, nice character developement, and a very solid story and message. Parasyte is the best action manga out there.
Of course, it's not perfect. A few moments made little sense. To avoid spoilers I'll say that some characters are not fully explained, some small moments make very little sense, and this series can come off as a cliche superpower/save the world from beasts type manga if you are very close-minded towards it. Yes some of the content does require contemplation.
Also, I have a warning about the gore. There is a lot. It never feels gratuitous or fanservicy, but it's abundant. Animals, humans, and parasytes are killed in very very brutal ways, often with their organs exposed. I handled it though, so you should be able too.
And yes, though Parasyte does have flaws, in my eyes it's perfect. It's better than the sum of it's parts.
One thing I like about this piece of work is that the protagonist is always learning, always enduring and moving on despite the disagreements Shinichi and Migi has. Not only that, when Migi possesses him, he starts to learn about a part of himself and learn to get used to Migi. This manga did an awesome job of character development; in the beginning, we see a boy who has grown to a loner to a hero and then...to a man.
Another thing I loved about this piece of work...is that no matter who's the enemy or friend, you always remember them for the part they played in this manga. We'll always remember the teacher parasite (obviously, I forgot her name) who grew to love her child, the chubby guy who's half possessed just like Shinichi, the student who went insane (Mimada, I believe), Goto (the strongest parasite), the mayor (who wasn't possessed but was on the parasites' side), the girl who came onto Shinichi, and lastly...Migi. These were all very wonderful characters and the good thing about each and everyone of them is that they all came into Shinichi's life and made him realize something good about himself.
The artwork isn't the best but I do like the artist's opinion of human distortion (physically) when possessed by an alien. The plot is something everyone should look into, extremely unique and recommended to anyone who loves and has an open mind about the extra-terrestial life.
iwaaki is a genius in storytelling, never once do u feel stagnant the story flows and flows like ur drinking from a cup. he tied up all or most of the important loose ends and made a neat clean cut ending.
