Best "Isekai"

The genre of people being transported to another word with some "cheat" seems to be popular nowdays, if I had to select one that do it right (from the recent ones) I would choose MT. The author goes great lenghts just to prove how much the story (not the world itself) is based around Rudeus and his devolment as a person. Having said that I still have my pros and cons for the story:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
(+)Pros
>Rudeus goes from creepy Hikkikomori to (somewhat) upstanding person and family man
>Most arcs have good pacing
>Characters and setting are interesting if a little strange in details
>The pacing is mostly good and it's shows how much the charactesr grow in time
>Rudeus "cheat" is not really that much of a "cheat" and it plays well
>The story strarts with Rudeus and ends with him

(-)Cons
>Some arcs can get tedious to read, and some felt weird (Magic University arc is strange since Rudy was already working as a adventurer)
>Not all characters get to show themselves fully, also some are unlikeable
>The bad guys are a little disappointing (in terms of reasons)
>It's a harem, while Eris & Rudeus realtionship is good and with Roxy is pasable but Sylphy threw me off, it didn't really felt like love there.
>Rudeus can get really stupid and inactive at times
>Last arc felt overlong and killed the mood of the part

Even so I recommend it, It's a nice read, and stands better than the rest of the genre.

It was great at first...

It had a really interesting premise. There was world building, decent-to-okay magic system and the plot was solid in the earlier parts but there were so many holes. Plot holes upon holes upon holes! I think halfway through or maybe about a third way in the author was pandering to the sounds of money rushing in.

I was expecting a more mature way of addressing the problems the MC was facing each time, with mapped out solutions that we can follow through and get the readers excited about but more often than not we get insta-answers were written. -_- WHAM BAM! Problem solved! Not even disguising how incredibly lazy some resolutions were! It was so irritating to see what could have made a great character development to a mediocre good-guy-always-wins MC trope. It was such a let down.

Seriously. This was one of the VERY, VERY few harem light novels that I could actually swallow. (Maybe only 4?) I hate everything harem especially when it's just there to feed the fantasies of frustrated, horny teenagers and fool everyone else into thinking it's popular because of its writing. Hell no. I wanted to quit at 60% and was procrastinating reading it. I had to set up a reading schedule just so I can say "I finished it! I finished it so I can make an honest, decent review about it!"

I'm giving this a 5.5 or maybe a 6. I don't know. I hated how the harem grew so quickly and so, SO illogically. Oh? MC thinks that girl is pretty, too? They shared something that he didn't share with the other(s)? That's okay! I'll have them in my harem! Why not! I've been lonely for so long and girls have shunned me left and right I'm sure my readers will agree that women are quite agreeable with multiple partners because..you know. I'm OP and all that.

But I'm giving it a 6.5 stars because all though there was b*llsh*ttery everywhere I enjoyed some parts and was surprised at the plot twists. So yes. There a 6.5.

How do I spoiler?

If you didn't get to the plot twist, don't complain

If you don't read up to the part of the story where the unexpected happens, don't complain with "don't get the hype". In the end, the mc gets strong, but, he is still super weak compared to his godlike opponents/allies, so the story has to compensate, and it does.

My rating is as follows:
Romance: 7
Action: 7
Characters: 7

Taken by its parts, this story sucks. It is when taken as a whole that it shines.

Frankly I was pretty excited to read this series when I first heard about it, since I had seen it recommended quite a few times and most of the reviews were positively glowing. However I have to say I just don't understand what everyone sees in this story. It's not very exciting, suspenseful, romantic or even well written. In fact I suspect that this story only got popular because it's pretty much the epitome of wish-fulfillment. I mean our main character is basically the best ever at magic, has multiple people mentioning how brilliant he is all the time and of course charms his harem with only some minor hiccups along the way.

Now you might think I completely hate this story but it's not all bad. Even though the story isn't very well written it does flow pretty good at least, very few times was I bored or just wishing for the author to move things along. There's also moments with the side characters where you can see that they're slightly deeper than you thought they were, though ultimately not by much.

This series is alright if you just wanna read about the main character getting stupid powerful, boning chicks and I guess doing some sorta plot stuff. If you're looking for an engaging story or romance you might be interested after a while but you have to slog through a lot of junk first.

Oh and quick point, the guy who posted the review after me was obviously upset that I negatively reviewed a series he enjoys. He insists that if "you don't get to the plot twist, you can't complain" but here's the thing: I actually DID reach the plot twist. And I still think it sucks. I don't know what people are smoking when they say stuff like "sure each INDIVIDUAL piece sucks but it's good overall", no the whole thing isn't very good, AND each individual part sucks. I sincerely don't know how a plot twist is supposed to redeem multiple books full of bad decisions, I guess some people will think anything is good.

I have read lots of Web novels including Chinese and Japanese novels but this is one of those Japanese novels that made me so irritated that I had to drop it before finishing half of the novel. Useless words everywhere. In fact so many useless words that it hurts your brain! Also many stupid examples of comical words which doesn't make sense.i really enjoyed the manga and I would vote 9 out of 10 for anime adaptation but this novel!!! Aaaghhh....
I am okay with pedophilia plot but I just can't accept a wimpy, coward MC especially this mc knows advance level magic and learned some swordmanship.
Sigh... if the author had redacted the useless words and gave some courage to this wimp it could've been an awesome novel.

This is honestly my favorite light novel ever, nevermind Zero no Tsukaima and Highschool DxD, Mushoku Tensei easily takes the cake, I'm rereading it for the 3rd time.

It's following the recent trend of reincarnation/transportation to a fantasy world, which some people are getting tired of, but this one is definitely worth the read. The MC is pretty OP, but the only reason is because of all the magical power he has, and he had to work hard to get that much, and it can be done by other residents. Another plus is that there isn't a game system where it shows his level and titles and whatnot. There is an adventurers guild with a ranking system which is a good point.

The characters are nice and fleshed out, you have a nice variety that don't get stale. The MC himself is a bit of a pervert, but he works hard to better himself in the new world and acts pretty selflessly, but isn't completely altruistic. He makes plenty of friends and allies, he also has his fair share of friends-turned-enemies and enemies-turned-friends that adds some spice to the plot. Also, slight spoiler, this is one of the few series I've seen where the MC actually makes a harem and goes all the way with them, and he has kids with all of them.

The universe itself is pretty in depth, the backstory is nice as well, the author even provided a map so you can know what the world looks like. Since the story takes place in about 22 years of the MC's life he visits almost every corner of the world so its pretty interesting.

And it has a kind of rags to riches theme that I'm particularly fond of. In the beginning he starts well off, but because of an incident he's left stranded in one of the most dangerous places in the world with nothing but his staff and traveling companions. By the end of the story he turns into a wealthy and influential figure.

This story is honestly amazing, and it definitely deserves to be called an epic, also long as hell, well worth the read.

The story started off as an interesting fantasy novel where even the main character is not spared suffering consequences of any unintelligent actions, as well as no one being spared pain and suffering due to injury or misfortune.

But after that arc, it's all sunshine and rainbows. Any form of adversity has a quick and non-taxing resolution. They even resolve and fix almost everything from the previous arcs. Everything is metaphorically child proofed and kid gloved. Good guys win, get rich, and prosper and bad guys lose.

It also becomes
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
a harem setting. I'm pretty sure that while this was a self published web novel the author was at the peak of their creativity and wrote whatever they wanted. But after the Magic School arc, I bet is when the author got picked up for publishing. Now "Publisher-san" is telling said author that his target audience wants to see the good guys win, and wants training arcs so characters can go "Over 9000" and that since the main character knows many females( and used to be an otaku shut-in antisocial nerd - you know just like your reader base?) He totally needs to not just go for the one girl that makes sense... he needs them all!

So yeah, I'm bitter about the sudden change of pace. It went from fantasy novel to anime in less than 10k words , it's really sad.

This is not a story about dungeon, fantasy, or magic
It's all about Rudeus, kind of like a diary of Rudeus Greyrat
(+) Why I like this series
1. The way author narrated this story, It' like we are watching the life of Rudeus, and because of it, I get very attached to the character (how they felt not just their name) especially Eris.
2. From the beginning author knew to where the story ended up, there are 3 Turning Point chapter, it's totally different compare to trolling or neverending story
3. Read and you will know it, how awesome it's.

(-) ....
1. other say MC is smart, I doubt it, it's steoreotypical chara, he totally clueless about Eris's feeling.
2. another cliche and stereotypical MC, again, yeah again, no matter what other did to himself or toward other person around him, he will eventually forgive it in the end. Author should be realistic luke should behe*d. (a bit emotional, anyway not makes sense for me)
3. He is closet pervert, well it's common in LN, so it does not make differences. at least he does not horny over norn, like typical harem that included incest story.
4. Author too focus on romance (actually i'm okay, coz i love Eris), but it will be great, if there is a journey or arc about exploring dungeon, research on world history, means we can see the full fantasy story not a romance in the fantasy setting. I know vol 3 is adventure, but it's only a small fraction, if we see the map that author drew
4. after 19th Vol, the story somewhat rushy, preparation for ending.
5. If author going for romance not adventure, Eris POV should added more, means a lot.

Slice of life feel

It really starts out interesting and even stays interesting till the very end or so I'd like to say. However, it focuses more on the love interests and drama than the actual magic/fighting. Also when ever the mc becomes stronger rather than showing his growth it simply says he's become stronger and tells us all he's learned. It certaintly is worth a good read but it's more of a slice of life/drama with magic and fighting as a side dish.
