It's full of crack and angst and stuffed with references to classical music! What's not to like? Sure, it's long and episodic and the art is sketchy, but that just adds to the charm.
A great read!

Violinist of Hameln has crazy comedy but at the same time there are many tragic and heartwarming moments as well. I didn't expect any storyline at first but it soons turn out to have quite a deep plot and the characters are developed well. This is a classic and a must read
You'll never find any manga to be as funny after you read this

WARNING #3: Do not drink or eat anything while reading this. Trust me, so many people have found out this the hard way.
I can only say this is probably not THE best manga out there, but it sure is the second. Great characters (Sizer-best female character ever IMO, next to Erza in Fairy Tail), clear plotline that's easy to follow (and it's an extremely important thing for a manga of this length)...and did I mention full chapters of humor? Don't worry it doesn't drag and for someone like me who loves rambling nonsense it makes me feel at home ). Extra points for jokes right inside tragic moments that, by some unknown superpower of the mangaka, DON'T seem out of place.
The artwork. Yes. Major trouble here. But remember this series started around 91 and the mangaka's main job was as a voice actor I think, but you'll have to bear with it. If a story with average artwork made ME read it (someone who reads pure crap stories just to gawk at the artwork) then it's definately worth a few nights up and skipping school/work.

Some jokes are pretty offensive, but i think overall this manga is great. Love the story, plot, arts and of course, the comedy in it.
If you are after a good story, this is the right choice. The characters are really unique, too. You have all sorts of them here - the bishounen with a dark past (the main "hero") is of course one of the most attractive ones))
This is the only manga, which made me laugh out loud, and not once or twice. Even when the situation becomes really tense, the author finds a way to insert a scene so hilarious that it'll make you laugh, even if you are not disposed to at the moment...
When I found this manga, I read the first chapter and thought "I never cared LESS for a story", but in some time, when I was desperately seeking some - any! - comics to read, I came across it again, and I continued. Oh my god, I think that if I have done a single thing right in my life - that was it. Read it, love it, laugh over it!

I usually hate totally self-centered and insensitive guys/girls....so why the heck do I love this character so damn much?!!
Please don't ask me that. The art isn't that terrible in the beginning, so please go ahead and read it: Maybe you'll like it. (and don't forget rule 3....no eating/drinking with this manga....)

i'm sure to give this a "10/10"
this is one of my long favorite manga that bring me to tear
a lot of angst and tragic but can combine with comedy neatly
when i first bough the first volume i didn't have much interest for it just continue reading as i have alredy purchase the first volume and i just want to know what's next.
but when the story continue... these is deep and touching story... so many ppl suffer... i love most charactor here... all charactor who aren't demon have pure heart but show their thinking in different aspect due to their raising and experience.
sizer is truely woman warrior... she is sharp and quick thinking... and with little shyness that make her charactor stand out....so she is both cute and reliable comrade.
flute also take a lot of part in the story... i hate the story where main heroine is useless and flute is rare breed type of heroine since.... she got dress up in many ugly way and being used as a comical stuff for the story.
trombone.. too, he become fine swordman from a cry baby and i feel like some boy whom i know now grown up and be happy with him.
may be because i follow this series since the first volume just out in my country.. it's been so many years till the last volume came up.

People need to shut up about this manga being silly and whatnot especially when they've only read the first volume. There is a story to this series and it isn't sugar-coated happiness all the way. There is bitterness, there is hatred, there is brutality, and there is the ever-constant aspect of death.
The anime actually took most of the dramatic aspects of this series and made a spectacularly dramatic story out of it. So I'd recommend that people go watch the anime if they haven't.

Sure, you have to love wacky comedies to like Violinist of Hameln, but if you like wacky comedies, you WILL love Violinist of Hameln. It's one of the only series that make me laugh out loud, with quite the good plot too (chapter 55, can't wait to read the next). I can read it three times a week and never get bored, it's just that good. Sizer-sama...
Nowdays its so very difficult to find this kind of unique theme manga , with comedy adventure mixed well with linear and solid storyline, Violinist of Hameln becomes one of my best fav manga.
How does it feel when your main character first impression is cool guy / bishounen guy , but suddenly he change his personality into jackass guy attitude which always causing trouble for everyone ?
Mangaka of this series know how to make a good varied joke that can makes you ROFLMAO every 5 pages.Despite of how much comedy in this manga , it has serious story sometimes , battle too, both balanced well, and it always keep in the main story track.
Unlike other manga that only dwell into sub quest / side story , in here you already know where the story wants to be headed , but it doesn't get lame because of that. Why ? because as the story progress you will unveil the mystery or unsolved question pieces by pieces.
You will never got bored ,plot becomes interesting as the story progress , as well as twist.
If any of you like playing RPG , this manga had some RPG element in it just like slayers anime .
And if you prefer some unique original theme, you should read this , you probably wants to know how the hell some musician going to fight ogre ,don't you?
