Unrealistic expectations?
by Yumcha

And by that I am referring to the other reviewers comments about the MC. The main complaint can be summarized as "You got falsely accused of rape... get over it."

Is a rape accusation really that simple to brush off? In the real world people have sued for less than this, but the MC (because he isn't real) isn't judged by the same standards? Summoned into another world, accused of rape by the daughter of the King, forced to fight in order to save a world full of people who despise and abuse him, with a very real chance of dying, with little to no economic support and 0 offensive power... if the MC could still be benevolent, not utter a word of complaint and does not become fixated on revenge after all that then he'd wouldn't be human.

Overall the premise for this novel is cliche, but honestly most novels are these days. What makes a good novel is how the story unfolds afterwards. Character growth is definitely there and the characters, for me at least, are not two dimensional (most of them). It's not the best novel out there but it's still one of the more enjoyable ones. Pacing can be a bit weird sometimes, but not to the extent that makes you go "Wtf is happening?" Bits and pieces of comedy are also present. Romantic developments are a bit slow and feels more like a subplot than part of the main story.

Take my comments as you will, just wanted people to give this novel a go without thinking that the MC is a little bitch, when he really isn't. (Character growth isn't going to be achieved in the first few volumes people)

It ended? My conclusion

It is a good novel (One of those you can treasure)
There is some up and down but I can say regardless of the circumstances it is interesting
So many people claimed this and that others even call them self professional readers
seriously reading comments is really fun.

First of all this novel is not about betrayals seriously just because he was betrayed at first don't just jump to unknown conclusion.
To summarize it up this novel is about Gods toying with worlds, parallel world encounters and so on.
What I usually notice to most readers and there comments is they easy assume things and compare it to reality and level it to there own morality.
Seriously People this is called fiction stop comparing it to reality.

As for the Story it goes something like this

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Various Heroes are supported from different world
There is no one world in this novel there are worlds and worlds
First the main Enemy is a bitch Goddess
And the heroes are not but tools that she plays with.
She summon Heroes from other world make this fight each other while she slowly absorb the power of the world. That is the reason as you read many bad and good heroes appeard.
The Hero of Shield was a rare existence among the toys of the bitch goddess
In the End the hero of shield became a god slayer and killed the bitch goddess

It was a great twist and turn the plots was also interesting
Just ignore the comments and be open minded
putting aside your self righteousness and morals.

Btw Chapter 376 made a short summary of the end of the story!

Some people failed to differ between shounen and seinen
that is why I find it funny how childish there comments are.

There is also a major lack of romance and it can barely be called a harem
but in the end the MC got married with more than one girl

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
MC the Hero of Shield became a god slayer (Killer of Evil Gods like the bitch Goddess)
MC can leave a fragment of himself (like what the bitch goddess did leaving her fragment AKA the witch princess)
MC left his fragments in the fantasy world and got married same happened to his original world.

To all the haters and negative comments out there
You have all the right to say what you want to say
But to those who have yet to read
Just be open minded and avoid the bad habit when reading and comparing it to reality
Its called a Fiction for a reason.

Good beginning, mixed bag for the rest

The setup, story progression, and characters seem interesting in the beginning. As the story progresses, that changes. For context: I have read the currently available translated novels and almost all of the translated web novel.

The story after the "kidnapped princess" arc is when I felt the story lost its strength. From there the story develops in weird ways and reveals the almost charicature nature of the other heroes which seems to have been hidden from lack of real interaction beforehand. From there the story starts shifting directions by no longer being about the waves and now it's about fighting super creatures. Strewn throughout are arcs that are completely unrelated to this and will either work or fall flat for you. I still can't understand the point of the mad scientist arc and it feels like one of the greatest wastes of my time as a reader.

Worth a read for the beginning, only stay if you're really interested and consider skimming on the arcs you don't care about at all.

Everyone's wrong except him

The problem is that they have to force such fake character conflict so readers can ignore his utter lack of character. We know next to nothing about Naofumi when he was in our world and he shows no true character flaws of his own. He would paraded around on a white horse as the next messiah if the writer didn't make the population hate him by default. Then there is the rape subplot that clashes horribly with the setting. You can't just have a RPG fantasy parody and then suddenly throw RAPE! into the story. The tone of this story changes from lighthearted comedy to dark adult fantasy at the drop of a hat.

He also has no foil. Sure, there are the other three knights but they are clueless morons that exist to make Naofumi look better by comparison. For once, I would like a character that could oppose or defy him without looking utterly evil or act like a total ass. Want a resolution to a problem? Ask Naofumi. He's the only one with half a brain. The story also makes the audience hate the majority of the characters that aren't in Naofumi's hare-, I mean party, defeating any reason to care about this save the world subplot. In other words, if you aren't kissing this guy's ass, then you are another moron that Naofumi can beat to prove his moral superiority,

Its the shallowest kind of nerd fantasy, in which the perspective can only be aligned with the main character and self worth is measured by the number of cute girls you can collect and the status of the people you beat up.

Imagine being suddenly thrown into a foreign country with only your clothes and no one to rely on because everyone who lives there, who are also strangers for you, think that you're a sex offender criminal.

It's easy to sweep the story behind the safety of your anonymity while sitting on your ignorant ass but put yourself in his shoes or just try to go abroad as an illegal immigrant and see how that work out for you.

everything has already been said so i will keep it short enough. I am typing this of the LT web comic version

Tate no yuusha deserve some attention, it has interesting character, good story development, some time it felt rush but a lot of noticble Rush was at the end of the story. They author truly broke the 3rd rule to make the character going beyond a hero capability.

Main story with the shield being the most, useless hero, and everyone looked down on him for the star with out giving him a chance. All first 4 characters are from alternate version of earth in a different tme.

The story at the end does show a good and happy ending but the after math kinda give you an wierd felling.... But they push it too much to the impossible. not my kind of ening byt still satisfying i guess.

It really screwed up the pacing at some point. Things started going in circles and becoming repetitive, which caused all tension to be gone. Almost feels like two seperate people wrote the first and the second half. But as the manga and the LN go on their own route at some point I do have high hopes for those.

At first I was of the opinion that the story is just about pettiness and revenge. It was like that at the beginning. It was annoying. He winds up in this alternate universe where everyone either betrays him, condemns him, shuns him, or treats him like crap. All for no apparent reason whatsoever. This is what will pull you into the story. You'll want to see him kick the sh*theads' hindquarters. When he does, it is DELICIOUS. Shortly afterwards though, there'll be another betrayal/framing and then you'll want to see a re-revenge. Rinse and repeat. It's hard to put down the novel because of this.

But thankfully around volume 4 the author adds a bit more depth to the story so if you get fed up by all the shittyness(like I did), atleast wait until then before you drop it. A reason was given to all the petty cruelty he receives which makes me a lot more hopeful for this series. It still feels like a bit of band-aid to its gaping flaws but it holds together nicely.

Some flaws:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The world the author built still feels too generic and weak to stand on its own. The game-like system is confusing, unimaginative, and unbalanced. Even if the shield is the only 'weapon' he can equip, its like a magical Swiss Army knife. He can do anything and everything with it, like brew potions, forge and enchant, he even uses it for mining =_=. Then there are these two dimensional characters. The antagonists are more annoying than worrying. Those who aren't against him adores and worships him.

The powerful force that is revenge keeps the story working, anything else is just extra. So if you want a VRMMO-like LN, and have read all the rest already, this'll do. If not try something else first. If you want an occasional dose of sweet vengeance then this perfect ^^

I don't think I've ever been quite as satisfied with a protagonist's revenge on their foe as I have been in this novel. Sooo satisfying, this work does an excellent job of making you hate the antagonists' guts just as much as the MC, and that makes his revenge feel great.
