Benkei is cool

Don't really care about anyone else. Ryo's obsession with him is deserved. Dude was in the present for like 2 years and apparently fucked 1000 women. He reached the 50,000 mark in Kyoto before traveling to the future, in a time period when Kyoto's population reached only to about 150,000 (female pop. of 75,000) . He had fucked 2/3 of the women in Kyoto. If you're a girl, between you, your mother, and your grandmother, 2 of you had been penetrated by Benkei. Hell, if you narrow down the demographic by Benkei's strike zone (excluding pre/post-menstruating women), it's conceivable that he had just about fucked every single woman capable of bearing children in the entire capital of Japan. Mind you , condoms didn't really exist back then, so he's likely a male more prolific than Genghis Khan.

When you factor in basic genetic diversification over 1000 years and ascribe to a linear belief of time travel, it's entirely probable that he was fucking his descendants in modern Japan. He's arguably the most successful human being in human history.

How he was able to guard a bridge, defeating 999 swordsmen, while simultaneously having intercourse with an astronomical amount of woman (likely more than 10 a day, given his age), I'll never know...

You gotta acknowledge his badassery. This is a SHOUJO manga. A manga targeted at teenage girls. But yet, the male lead is more masculine and alpha than any shounen (or EVEN SEINEN for that matter) protagonist. Guts (Berserk) has only had sex with 2 women (and one of them was secretly a demon who he was just banging so he could be sure when he kills her), and his most prestigious achievement is being known to be the "100-man slayer". Miyamoto Musashi (Vagabond) is a virgin approaching 30 whose greatest achievement is killing around 70 men.

Completely ridiculous

I could not get past the third volume. For a historical manga, I would have thought better. The realism in this ends with definitive facts and runs off a cliff with character development.. literally. Main female lead is an idiotic fruitloop who only cares about flowery romance and herself whilst in dire situations. I think when she fell from that cliff she got severe brain damage. Or she was born with it and it got worse. I'm not kidding.

The plot is simple, a tad cliche for a historical but it only becomes hard to stomach when it comes to the main characters. The MC is the kind of (unrealistic) person who does not acknowledge imminent danger of herself, those around her and the future of an entire era. She lacks the capability of grasping anything relatively important. Let me give you an example: From what I've read she will run out into the streets insulting royal soldiers, blab to anyone about her secret identity and sew bear pelts for fun just to make gifts for the guy she likes (Note: when she is pretending to be a man of extreme importance and great swordsmanship, and surrounded by hostiles). If that's what she's done in the first 16 chapters, I don't want to know what else she's going to do.

Not to mention, there was hardly anyone I would call a saving grace, including the main male lead. Aoi might be the closest person to having a reasonable personality.

Laughable really. And if the spoiler from what the person below me revealed is true then there's your answer. To everything. This is a joke.

Seriously, how can she fall for such a womanising jerk?? He's cold, ugly and a total sleezebag. Honestly, in the reverse harem she's built up for herself couldnt she pick a better dude?
It's very sad really, as there are some nice guys but she has to fall for the stereotypical playboy that has "reformed"
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
He even ditches his wife and the child he raised for 2 years the second he remembers who he is, a major d-bag move on his part. Not to mention the fact that the child and wife depended on him and brought him back to health. But, the man I loved in this story died, which was when I gave up hope for a good ending.

Ruins such an interesting storyline, damn.
Also, the ending is a total slap in the face, seriously not what you expect at all
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Her brother goes crazy, tries to make her his and kills everyone she loves. Aoi dies (hes her son with Benkei) and Benkei gets an arrow through the neck and dies and at last she goes to the future and gets hit by a car. I can't make stuff like this up, seriously.

What an extreme and unlikeable protagonist. Besides the fact that she is completely disassociated with her surroundings (ignoring the time travel bit) she is also very inconsistent and doesn't even take any interest in what is happening around her.

It's not even made clear why there are so many people following/supporting/falling in love with her:
- She acts like a total brat
- doesn't particularly care for anyone (except her love interests)
- misleads allies and when someone goes to a length to protect her she rewards this by running to the enemy.
- doesn't take a standpoint (read till end of v05, she plays the role of a fairly important person in a delicate political situation... something you can't just ignore).
- she has no self worth
- has no capital
- should have been killed a lot of times due to the acts she pulled.

One thing that 'confused' me immensely is that at a few times she is a practically unbeatable swordsmen, but most of the time she goes all weak and acts like a total princess (which makes her all the more unlikable to me)...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
even after when she 'merged' her two personalities

Another decent premises utterly ruined by multiple superficial (but pushy and possessive) love interests.

Seriously, good romance?, good heroine? More like the opposite... At least the art is bearable (especially for ±15 year old manga).

The main character was tiresome, and Benkei equally so. Sadly, the only person I really liked was the rival love interest, Kurogane was it? Also, just as a heads up, this has a LOT of comedy, which undermines a lot of the drama, if you're into drama like I am.

I read this manga till volume 8 and I couldn't put up with this stupid little weak main character anymore!! I mean like it's she stupid? She doesn't even know what kinda situation she's in and all she's doing is chasing after a freaking guy! How lame is that? Does she even know her life is in danger and she still decides to cling onto this one guy! It totally can't be compared to all the historical romance mangas I have read since it's so so horrible! It can't even be compared to Ouke no Monshou, and that manga isn't all that good either and parts of it were cheesy too. But this manga right here totally pissed me off and it was a waste of time! I regret reading it. >_<

Talk about roaring rapids. The emotional roller coaster this manga puts off is a real wild ride. It was good from start to finish, though sad on so many levels.

I really liked this manga, it is interesting...

However, the ending was very sad but still...

And everything wraps pretty well, relationships and what not, plus who's whos etc...

Can't really spoil it but I have the urge to, lol biggrin

Gotta love historical romances... I couldn't move myself away from it until I finished it, well what's translated that is. Then I became really curious and downloaded the raws, and now I'm totally confused. I don't wanna spoil anybody so I won't say anything outrageous, but the end seems sad? Well its a 10, from what I have read anyway smile
