Very, very shoujo
by Noburo

Now I'm not hating on shoujo, I just dislike the genre. This manga is definitely a shoujo if I've ever read one smile

Pros:
- Story is pretty good. It can drag on at times though.
- Very nice art
- Main boy is handsome AF and definitely the "mysterious-type" that we all know and love. He reminds me of Rood from Black Haze
- 12 chapters, all long. About a two-hour read if you binge it.

Cons:
- All of the guy characters look alike. I often got confused over what was happening because they were all blonde...
- Main girl is only there to further the plot. Yes it's a shoujo, but this doesn't give the series the right to just force her in for the genre-tag. She adds nothing but commentary for the series and I'd much rather it focus on the main guy.
- The pace is everywhere. One chapter moves quickly, then the next drags on.

Edit: I think the series may have been axed. It has a VERY rushed ending and it was obvious the author wanted to move the series forward with the amount of foreshadowing that ultimately led nowhere. I'm sad. It was a good series that did not deserve an axed ending sad

One of the good shoujos

Midorikawa never fails to draw interesting and deep characters, with an 'alive' feel to them. I love her accurate and sober depiction of subtle human emotions, I love her art style. The ending is indeed a bit abrupt but Akaku Saku Koe remains an interesting and uncommon series.

Liked It

I really, really liked this manga. It could definitely have been longer (probably would have been better if it were, too), so the ending was abrupt and almost anticlimactic. I was disappointed that the author didn't include the "struggles". It was often mentioned that Karashima is hurting, and even that Kokubu was becoming his weakness, but there was no story around that. I think I would have liked it more if the story had more drama to it.
I read that someone thought Kokubu (the girl) was annoying. I didn't think so at all. She has a very sincere character, and I do envy her her boldness to be honest with her feelings.
Rather than plot-driven, Akaku Saku Koe focuses more on the mind, I find. More of a mental/ emotional journey than a physical one, and the climax was an emotional one.
All in all, a fairly light and easy read. Good for lazy, rainy days. I recommend it to people who aren't looking to be impressed, but entertained for a few moments.

short, but beautiful

I loved all of it, how each character was connected to each other and how they all had this chain going on. Pushing one another forward while still being there for each other. The art was gorgeous, almost like a dream. I wish there would've been more development to the male lead. But his mask was beautiful. Reminded me a bit of Princess Mononoke. It had the same feeling of fragility, where if you aren't too careful you might ruin it. The only thing I disliked was the ending, but it was still a good one.

i have been a fan of midorikawa's work ever since i saw natsume yuujincho..then when i saw it also has a manga, i decided to read it. this work is totally hers. her simple art,the light story..her works made me take a break from all the "mangas" out there. Her works shows simplicity, yet hides a deeper meaning. i love karashima, his life, and his voice (and if he is real, i would really like to hear it and be friends with him)and Kokubu's character is a strong, likeable one..

A really interesting concept mixed with Midorikawa's unique loose style makes this one a winner for me. I love the naturalness of her drawing style and her text. She has far less text in her manga than average, which I think is why some people find it lacking impact. So much of her stories is the feelings of her characters and she generally uses pictures instead of words to give the readers clues to the characters emotional states.

I really liked Kokubu. I totally get her wanting to be around the person who intrigues her and wanting to be helpful to them but at the same time not wanting to burden them. Karashima was definitely my favorite though. He was sort of like a tiger; feels really cuddly soft but actually dangerous. I liked how he wiped blood of his face with his jacket rather than get the handkerchief Kokubu gave him dirty. He delights in small things but gets hurt by them too. I also thought the cast of supporting characters was really strong. They felt like real individuals that when not around could certainly be carrying out their own lives outside the frame instead of just waiting in the wings to be brought back for exposition purposes. That's a really hard thing for any sort of writer to do and is one of Midorikawa's very strong points.

I really liked it but I did feel it was a little slow in certain chapters. Or maybe I was just super excited for Karashima and Kokubu to get together.

The art work was more sketchy then most. I kind of liked it. It gave the impression of being more dreamy. The story line was o.k. Though a bit under developed.

Yeah. This manga is worth reading. Definitely worth reading, since the characterization, plot, romance... ahh its all there and its beautiful. Except for the artwork, this manga is essentially perfect.
"When you're in love, even happiness hurts." HOW AWESOME IS THAT?
