Description
From BLU: Get ready for hot tea and hotter action in this tale of opposites attracting on the tatami mats. Poor Tokumaru Madoka is just a regular energetic guy that can't seem to go even five minutes without breaking something. One day his hapless sister has had enough, and she forces him to join their high school’s Tea Ceremony Club, hoping to instill a little discipline in her hopeless klutz of a brother. Tea Ceremony Club president Hasune Kazuma is Tokumaru’s complete opposite. The tall, dark president is the pinnacle of restraint, having been taught from a young age how to uphold his family’s traditions. The sophisticated president and his awkward pupil conceal a brewing attraction, but they can’t avoid steaming each other up. But even full to the brim with passion, will the two of them be able to bridge their differences and get along with each other?
This was a great read, I found it really interesting to follow. I enjoyed the characters and the fact that they easily fell for each other and then we got to see how their lives go and they deal with that in addition to their love. The main couple is very different, the protected young master of a famous tea ceremony house, Kazuma, always keeping a cool head, having to be mature and carrying responsibility and the happy-go-lucky Madoka who easily gets into fights and doesn't stop to think about what to do with his life or free time beyond baseball and porn magazines. I love that they're so different in character and that's what makes it so interesting to watch when they clash in romance. They deal with each other and their relationship, as well as struggle with their own lives, their future, wishes and dreams, school and how their family and friends around them react to them being gay. It's got funny moments, heartache, very serious topics.... everything I'd look for in a good manga. It's great when you can laugh and cry with a couple!
The scanlation is not great, sometimes making no sense but what irked me most was that the names kept changing their spelling every chapter (Kazuma/Kasuma, Hatsune/Hasune, Madoka/Modoka, ect) at least through the first volume.
I'd recommend this to anyone. It's a good mix of everything you can wish for in a yaoi manga, it's a good length and can have a better pacing that way, the art is very nice to look at and the characters and their story are very enjoyable!
I've read this more than once(mostly because I totally forgot it and wanted to see if it was any good or not) and I am just not that hyped up over it. It's not terrible, but I found it to drag on. The couple got together very quickly in the beginning and even if they had reason to fall for one another, it really was not well developed in the story. Over time you tend to forget that, which is good, but I found the story a bit boring. I am a big fan of peaceful, slice of life type stories without a ton of drama, but this felt as if it were missing something important. I struggled at times to want to keep reading, and in the end I was left feeling unsatisfied. Certainly not the worst thing I've read, but it was just around average.
Really sweet story, quite funny too. Not too much sex, and it's not very graphic either so this'll be good for readers who don't want much of it (I personally prefer more but if the story is sweet I can manage without) and all the characters are likeable. My favourites being the main ones, Tokumaru as he's so naive and cute, and Hasune because he's cool and stoic except for issues regarding Tokumaru ^__^ I also loved their sisters, the few extra chapters about them were very amusing. I was always rooting for Kotoko! XD I wasn't too keen on the other couple (can't remember their names now), but I didn't hate them. The only thing I didn't like about this manga was the ending (I've noticed some other readers have had the same opinion) just because the last chapter seemed too rushed and it was a bit anti-climatic.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I was hoping for more of a conclusion about their future but I suppose Tokumaru's gesture with the tea was sweet (as he did say that he hoped it would show his feelings - especially as he was never very good at saying it)
I personally didn't mind the ex appearing in the last few chapters, because right from the start it was clear that Hasune was used to gay relationships. Plus it was beneficial to their relationship, though not in the usual way which made it quite unique. A good manga, could've done with an extra chapter to give a more satisfying end, but still nice.
It's not like it's drama, so there weren't any dramatic events to make you 'feel' more than the simple daily life, but the fact that it was four volumes long made everything take its time, gradually changing. Problems that can arise in relationships arose, so that you can definitely see a growth in the personalities of Tokumaru and Hasune as they learn how to deal with those problems. And though the end was a bit rushed, it made me feel something deep in myself somewhere, because as they graduated from high school, it seemed they were also graduating from their own personal lessons in life.
What's also really great about this story is that I can honestly say I absolutely loooved ALL of the main characters, inlcuding the two sisters. (and it's not easy to find likable female characters in yaoi!) Tokumaru is one of the funniest and most wild and careless characters I've ever come accross with. I liked him from the first page! His sister has character, is very well drawn, is cute but in quite an individual way, and she loves her brother, even if it's not always obviously shown with little hearts floating around.
Anyway, the fact that I even take the time to comment already says all there is to say:
Love everything in this one. The MC were complex and definitively cute. The secondary were interesting and add to the main story.
I vote against these two categories: Friends-become-lovers: for the reason that Hasune clearly said in the last book that he was never friend with Tokumaru but always want him as a lover. Beard: a beard is a woman who accept to pass for the girlfriend of a gay man in the closet. Were did you see that peoples
I just don't like how the mangaka just brought in an ex-boyfriend of Hasune's in pretty much the last part of the manga, a bit pointless really. I guess i wouldn't have minded so much if it was just an ex-girlfriend but that's just me I guess; i just don't like it when the Seme has ex-boyfriends I'm just weird like that. Well that's probably the only reason why I deducted a rating from it.
Everything was very typical. Characters always showed same expressions. The volumes flew fly really fast. I couldn't even find some chapters for volume four. There was hardly and drama or conflict. If there was any it was easily taken care of. Art wasn't that great either. I had been so excited to read after seeing all of the high ratings. Disappointed.
I bought this series based on the synopsis on the back, and the fact that I liked the art. I was not disappointed. The story was well put together. The characters were well thought out, and each had their own distinct look and personality. Tokumaru is energetic and impulsive. Hasune is refined and classy. They are opposites. This makes the story work so well. They are all over each other one minute and making each other mad the next. The secondary characters are good too, and add a lot to the story. The uncle with the dojo is a piece or work. I also liked the relationship between Mizuki and Keigo. There are extras with these 2 characters. I also liked Hasune's sister and her crush on Tokumaru's sister. That was a cute extra. The BL did take a back seat to the story in this one. Some might not like that, but there are plenty of sex for the sake of sex BL stories out there. I like the ones with storyline to them. This is a definite recommend in my opinion.
I loved it but I didn't like the ending(last chapter). I didn't like how it ended just like that. I wish there was more comedy. I feel unsatisfied because they were thinking hard about their future so I was disappointed with the ending. It would have been better if it was longer. The ending seemed rushed(and I couldn't find the previous two chapters).
I loved this one! All four volumes of it! It was an awsome read. I think any Yaoi fan should check it out! The relationship was so cute. And also the side stories of their sisters were cute xD.\
It was sweet funny, and romantic all in one. A great series by Yaya sensei <3
