I absolutely love this manga, and although some parts fall a bit short of my expectations, it is overall quite solid.

And regarding the earlier comment, yes it does feel a bit weak when compared to manga nowadays. However, it should be noted that this manga IS A LITTLE BIT OLD, and that back in it's day was quite revolutionary and spawned higher popularity for the harem genre and as such has been improved throughout the years.

this is a truly amazing manga... it has an amazingly satisfying ending, a good story line, and many funny aspects too... this manga has and will continue to set the bar for harem romance based mangas for a long time... if you ever get a chance read this manga, you will have no regrets smile

Good, but repetitive

Love Hina is a solid series, pretty much everything you would expect out of a harem manga (especially since it set the standard for harem manga to follow). However, some of the gags are extremely repetitive. Namely main character sees girl naked/nearly naked, then girl hits him so hard he flies into the stratosphere. Yeah, it's funny the first few times they do this gag, but then it happens (what seems like) every chapter and in the exact same situation (usually Keitaro walking into the bath when a girl is in there). If you can handle that though (I could easily, it only started to bother me in the last 30 chapters or so) I would definitely recommend this series, it has great characters, romance, and a happy ending. I'm kind of a sucker for happy endings.

tl;dr overused gags keep this series from being a 10/10. Read it if you like romance/harem.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Love Hina was probably the first manga I read back in 2000 or so. At that time, I felt it was a instant classic, a 10/10, I hadn't read anything like that before and it stuck out in my mind. Now roll the clocks 10 years, and here we sit at 2010, giving this classic another deserved read. Well, I must say, I was slightly disappointed, as it did not live to my memories expectations, plus it seemed to have quite a bit of wasted potential.

The first few volumes were really well done in my opinion and taking into consideration when it was written, it was the standard of harem manga. It set the bar for all future harem genre, and Akamatsu really did a good job nailing the slapstick comedy/light romance, adding some unique and lovable characters with a cute and interesting plot. Fan service aside, most of the beginning was really well done. However, that is until you hit about the time Keitaro finally passes the exams. From there, it seemed to derail, get repetitive, get old, boring and stale. I can't really put my finger on why it did that so rapidly, but I kept thinking to myself, "Can't we just see them go out already!?". Or, "Why does she keep abusing him?" It got pretty redundant and old, and after you see poor Keitaro abused for the 100th time, its not that funny anymore.

However, as it added more (useless?) characters, and got towards the end, it seemed to shape up a little better, giving you a nice heartwarming ending, and a wedding scene! I'm a sucker for happy endings.

Overall, a little overrated by most in my opinion, being that its a stepping stone manga into the manga world, and lost potential. Either he should have cut it short, or took it in a more serious direction with the romance. I could recommend this to people quite easily though, its easy to pick up, easy to relate to, and the characters are hard not to love. Even though there are much better harem manga out there, I can still recommend this one if you don't mind a frustrating main couple, and somewhat of a repetitive comedy scheme.

I wish I never read this series...JUST SO I COULD READ IT AGAIN WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. Honestly this series is amazing, its funny, cute and romantic. Naru and Keitarou are probably the best couple I have ever seen in manga. Insanely good series, even people who aren't into the harem genre might enjoy it. This is one of my favorite manga.

Good Harem

About the only harem type manga and anime I would actually recommend to people.

It's silly, lacks plot, and wishy washy like 100% of other harem. However I think the place it truly does succeed is that it has a sense of fun to it. And unlike the vast majority of other more recent releases from the genre, it is basically non-fetishised. It simply has a bunch of oddball characters having risqué fun, and doesn't pander to specific fetish subsets.

This has to be my best (and old if you consider 11 years ago) romance manga. I like how the story progresses with the guy start out geeky but eventually grows mature and the girl didn't act like a complete...... you get it. Though the constant interruptions during the love scenes and constant stereotypical "get peeked, get punched" were kinda getting old. But the story did continue with not much fillers. **SPOILER** At the end, in my opinion, I wish they concentrate on the wedding instead of introducing a new character which had a useless role/part. Other that that, I can be picky person but I definitely gives this a 10/10

Love Hina is one of the best manga's of it's genres or any for that matter. The story is bizarre and hilarious. Even with all the comedy this manga has a real deep romantic story to it which is perfect. One moment you can have two people about to kiss in the moonlight...only to be stopped by well read it to find out!!
Great fun and Great romance.

It has a great story that will make you fall in love with everyone in the it. The characters are one of the most awesome group i have ever read about. Every character is developed greatly and thoughtfully, and everyone has a purpose. It's hard to pick a favorite when everyone is so damn awesome and you'll love everything about them.

The art is also great for the story. It's well drawn and detailed, yet it looks simple and sort of unrealistic, but that's what makes this manga perfect since this manga its self is bizarre at times smile. It does have ecchi moments but it doesn't take away from the romantic and comedy side of the manga (it is really hard to put it in words)

All in all, with a fantastic storyline, one of my favorite cast of characters, perfect romance, bizarrely hilarious humor, great artwork, all put into one makes this manga a total knockout. This is a must read for anyone who read romance/comedies (with a bit of ecchi), or even if it's not. this is a great read which many will come to love.

My first manga. I read it back in 2001, and today it is still the one i'm most fond of. There this special charm to it that no manga can hope to achieve. You really fall in love (in a healthy way) with the characters and the ending is so fulfilling. The art is very good, specially for a 1999 manga. The settings are perfect.
The characters are the best part, you will grow to like them so much... They are unique in their own ways, and unlike in other harem mangas, they just don't fall in love with the main character first sight, and they are not all love interest. The main character is a bit lame, sometimes, but he is not detestable or a complete wimp dork like most main characters in other mangas; you will even hope that he everything goes alright for him. And the romance. Oh the romance. It is so sweet, it's one of the things that makes this series on it's own level. You will really feel warm when you finish reading this. Oh, not to spoil but the ending is probably the only ending that I thought that was perfect. If only, I wish he didn't become so "seta" like.

Just read it. It's the only complete manga I've re-read after so many hundreds of others in 8 years, and I did it thrice.
