Description
Love can be obsessive. Like wanting to rip the wings off a butterfly. Chouko has been in love with Taichiro for a long time. Taichiro and Chouko have known each other since childhood. At one point, Taichiro became very candid and told Chouko that he hated her so much that he wanted to kill her. Even so, Chouko's desire toward him never really changed. One day, a senior in her athletics club confessed to her. Filled with burning jealousy, Taichiro also confessed to Chouko. Their insecure, but very obsessive love begins.

An extra prequel can be found inside of Yoru Koi.

difficult rape scene
by lilliful

Rating: N/A
I realize now that rape is among the hidden tags, though for a long time this manga was a dropped scanlation project so I think many readers got introduced to it before this scene was translated. If I had known the rape scene was coming, I wouldn't have read the entire manga, so I thought I'd put this here to let anyone else know. This isn't the kind of "rape" you often find in manga that just depicts a partner being reluctant but actually wanting it (though yes, there's a TON of that in this manga). The rape scene I'm talking about is a straight up violent, forceful rape that does not stem at all from the romantic plot and results in internal injuries. Can't really say much more without spoilers.

Not health obsession

I didn't think it was too bad....for FICTION!
If this was real, this would be scary. It is super NOT healthy to be that attached. It is creepy and scary how obsessed they are with each other.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The fact they show her being raped really pissed me off, but the boyfriends revenge was...interesting.
This was really hard to read. This whole "I can't live without you, I might as well kill you" thing is just not something to be so happy about. Everyone love Romeo & Juliet, but over running?

This manga is not for everyone and is REALLY not for teens or pre-teens with an over obsession for unhealthy relationships. You can have a good guy/girl without all this crying, drama and freakiness. Scary.

It's pretty much a bunch of childish temper tantrums

Chouko and... what's his real name anyway (megane-kun it might be Taichi who knows), are incredibly childish selfish people when it comes to each other. Despite the fact that some of the things they say to each other can seem really sweet or creepy depending on how you want to look at it. Their problems are just temper tantrums over that they can't be all over each other 24/7 and are just incredibly destructive to each other and to people around them. Like half of these problems wouldn't occur if they weren't so selfish in their game of love. At the same time it doesn't glamorize love or obsession like most shoujo manga. But the situation is overly ideal? Chouko is a star athlete and Megane is the smartest person in class (both are also considered good looking by many). They're unrelatable in that aspect.

I'm not even sure what the plot is. It might just be the ups and downs of two people that are lustful and obsessive of each other. It's very predictable and kind of exhausting in that way, but I do want to see it to the end as a story just to make better sense of what I'm reading and to better judge how it is as a whole.

Art is mediocre, very flat drawings characteristic of most manga. Not necessarily anatomically correct with some stiff awkward poses from time to time. Not necessarily one of the poorer nor best manga drawings published around 2002 but it's tolerable.

This is another manga to see who'll she ends up with and the only thing that grabs you is the smut but I guess that's the point of a smut.
I think the art suits it very well.

Don't Take this Too Seriously, Girls

You know that WNM isn't another Sunadokei or KareKano, so chill. First of all, I see a lot of people either really hating this series or liking - and their reason mostly hinging on Megane-kun's character. I have to disagree to some of the previous comments, Amakawa isn't the most sane guy (lol), but he's very gentle to Chouko, and he encourages her to run because he recognizes that it's important to her. I mean, they don't do it until the last chapter for crying out loud! (Just ignore the really creepy moment at the staircase) I really enjoyed the background on their childhood and such. Aside from the awkward plot twist, I'd say that Chouko and Taichirou actually make a good couple. If only the author didn't spend so much time on (1) them making out and always stopping in this middle of it or (2) the stupid track vs. love predicament Chouko faces; honestly, how many times did they break up in the manga? Although she has a refreshing personality (most of the time) she is such a drama queen! In all of the seven volumes, Megane-kun has matured much more than her. There really isn't any "smut" in this series. I mean, Houkago Hokenshitsu has way more explicit stuff than this and it's not even labeled as "smut". I feel like this series could have been so much better! The author doesn't have a bad sense of humor and her art style is cute. Although Chouko's face could have had more details to it like Yoru Koi's Mei. I feel like she could of showed the couple dating as a normal couple more - in short, not have such a melodramatic plot (Sakaki's actions at the end was really uncalled for). I was also really confused why Chouko keeps calling him glasses since she didn't do that in the flashbacks. I really like romance between childhood friends, too, that was my only motivation at the end to keep on reading it. It's such a shame...
By the way, if you're interested, there's a drama CD with Ishida Akira as Megane-kun and Takahashi Chiaki as Shimota Chouko.

This is the second time I started reading this manga, and it's the second time I've put it down. I personally loathe relationships like this, and the level of obsession feels SUPER creepy. Since I know people who tend towards obsessive behavior in relationships, it just makes me nauseous and a bit scared. Plus, I hate that sort of manipulativeness; it's what drove me off Peach Girl. UGH. I hate it! The art is fine, but all the other relationships are so shallow... I don't know. This is a NO for me.

well, the smut is hot

i remember starting reading this awhile back and then getting bored and putting it on hold. recently picked it up again out of curiosity. although the two mains are overly obsessive, insanely insecure and not relatable at all, their interactions are interesting to watch. the manga is somewhat honest, at least, about the fact that this relationship is not entirely healthy and doesn't glamorize it to the max like some other shoujo do (though there is still a lot of romanticizing, but whatever).

on the plus side...the smut is some of the hottest i've seen in a shoujo. i've never seen a shoujo display overt male sexual arousal and responses to pleasure (normally i have to go to a yaoi for that XD). just for that, i'll continue reading.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the secret fujioshi part of me wants the revelation to be that sakaki-kun is actually in love with megane-kun. LMAO. that would be epic. PLEASE LET IT BE SO.

I like this manga I do, but there is a lot of drama, which I can handle. But Magane-kun is just to obsessive to the point its scary and creepy. He'd be happy if she was put into a glass frame and hung on the wall (like the butterfly in his room). Usually you are supposed to get out of relationships like that for your own good, any of the other guys that like Chokuo are better suited for her and Im not just saying that just because I hate glasses in genral (the object not the person).

On the plus side...

While my love of most shoujo smut had rapidly declined, I actually like this one. At least the two main leads are as psychotic as each other (kind of like the 'flowers of evil' in that sense) and while the male lead is far from admirable, the female lead isn't much different, or better.

It's an interesting plot situation, slightly cliched, but far better than if only one partner physically or verbally victimises the other. In shoujo terms, thats called 'romance'. At least here, the two leads are equally victimising each other.

they're all ready together by volume 2
So where is this going? No idea and it didn't sustain my interest. All style and no substance. I'll give it kudos for one thing...
