Avoid if you are not a pedophile or have an IQ above 70
by silencer

Rating: 1.0  / 10.0
The story is about Nie Li, a 200+ year old demon spiritualist reborn into the past. The demon spiritualists are basically a cheaper version of Jinchūriki from Naruto: You can purchase spirit to merge with your 'soul realm'. Pretty much all named characters in the story have one beast in them. The author turns Jinchūriki into something trite and uninteresting.

The main goal of the protagonist is to save his city, but his main activity is actually using his amassed knowledge from the future to force others (from children to elders) to do what he wants. Then it became full blown pedo fetish around chapter 92, when he looked at a thirteen year old Ziyun's naked body
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Ye Ziyun realised something and screamed.

“Nie Li, turnaround!” Ye Ziyun’s face flushed red as she stomped her feet.

“What’s wrong?” Nie Li blinked, taking a few more glances. This isn’t something he can see all the time, if he were to turn around, then it would have been wasted.

“Nie Li, how can you be like this. I……” Ye Ziyun was angry. She hastily retrieved a cloth from her interspatial ring to cover up.

and also exposed himself to the child

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
“How about this, I’ll let you look at me back!” Nie Li said, as he starts to undress.

and subsequently broke into her room to jerk off to her bathwater

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Nie Li quickly undressed himself and jumped into the wooden tub. He said in satisfaction, “This is so comfortable!”

“Urghhhhhhh!” Ye Ziyun is simply going crazy. The moment Nie Li comes, he treats this place as though it’s his own. She just finished bathing in the wooden tub and hasn’t even had the time to pour the water away, how could Nie Li just jump in like that?

jk but you may wonder why a 200+ year old sage is acting like a deranged monkey, the answer is that the author might be a sexually frustrated pedo and this is his fantasy. Also now you know who bought Belle Delphine's bathwater, people like the fans of this novel.

So while sexually harassing the 13 year old girl, he was caught and beaten by her father Ye Zong. And he got away with it by boasting he'll be able to mercilessly step on the father of the girl he's harassing, if he's given one year to train . I kid you not 🙂))

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
“What? You want to try?” Nie Li had both his hands on his hips. Since he has already gone all out, he pointed at Ye Zong and scolded, “Give me a year's time and I will definitely step on you mercilessly under my feet!”

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
However, Ye Zong did not kill him, probably because the Alchemist Association side said something. Since that’s the case, Nie Li has nothing to fear. No need wait for too long, Nie Li will thoroughly subdue Ye Zong, and make him send his daughter over with his own hands.
Thinking about it here, Nie Li had a hint of faint smile on his face.

So Nie Li is a 200+ year old sage with vast knowledge enjoys abusing/humiliating good natured folks of the city he wants to protect (from children to elders to city lord like Ye Zong, those who sacrificed themselves and made him who he is now). He especially likes to go around sexually harassing children, particularly, looking at thirteen year old girls naked body and feel them up (chapter 91-96). One of them was a lover in his past life, this is his excuse, I kid you not. I can understand the 10/10 ratings from pedophiles at this point.

Ignoring the pedo fetish of the author, this novel also has all the trademark traits of third rate self indulgent fantasy:

- Follows the identical rebirth, power up formula in many similar stories (down to the detail of which character receives power up as a result of being on the Nie Li's good side)
- Everything happens in the story no matter how harsh or perilous always magically benefits Nie Li, there is nothing resembles actual tension. For example, this is what happens after he got beaten by the father of the 13 year old he sexually harrassed:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Although Nie Li was heavily wounded by Ye Zong, causing Nie Li’s soul realm to have cracks. But, because of this, he had signs of breakthrough and progress. He continuously practised. Soul force was revolving around him. After soul forming, Nie Li’s cultivation had another obvious breakthrough

- All characters are one dimensional and can be summarized with half sentence.
- Everyone who has any sort of conflict with him is the bad guy and thus made to look as pitiful as possible or "vomit blood".
- Every female in the Harem has super powers and is automatically put on pedestal.
- The main character knows all the convenient knowledge that let him win in any situation.

There are also evidence that this is written by someone with mental age of 10:

- "Several experts were currently discussing by transferring of their voices to one another", this is a real quote, chapter 102. Many similar examples.
- "The power of the [Heavenly God] cultivating technique can only be seen at a later part of his cultivation." repeating over, and over, every time this technique was mentioned.
- The amount of inconsistencies, plot holes, errors with numbers etc. are simply appalling.

It's good but ,the author should have ended it sooner.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
If the series had ended with him as a 20 smt year old after a long and arduous proccess of saving his hometown, this would have been an Incredible novel.

But instead the author decided to add these other dimensions stuff, and changed the final boss from the big bad guy from his dimension to the literal god of that verse.

It was a cool idea, but he probably understimated the effort it would take to get the story to that point.

So in short the premise is good, but it got bloated to astronomical levels and that kind of made it worst.

It's an inherited problem from these type of novels. With the quick releases and no editing. If this had been a book or a book series it would have been a 10/10.

Because it would have had editing, he would have been able to change his mind about these large premise twists without every fan going mad, he could cut some of the unnecessary fluf out, etc.

This series started off well

This series started off well. It had a decent premise, the progression was good, and the pacing was decent. Then the story and the mc’s attitude and unbeatable nature came into play.
MC experiences a rebirth/rewind after living a good many years, while using a time space artifact that allowed him to study and learn everything under the sun in a period equivalent to 1000 years. He has all of the techniques, all of the knowledge, and this becomes part of the largest plot armor imaginable. In short, he is a Mary Sue (gary stu) of epic proportions.
That may or may not be to everyone’s taste, but the clincher for me is that for a person who has returned to the past with more knowledge than needed, he acts like a petty douche with a personality no better than a preteen. Whenever something occurs, it just adds on to the layer of plot armor that it makes the story drone on as the mc and the plot become more and more tiresome to read about.
It used to be a light hearted story with some humor, then it became utter drudgery.

It's worth reading

I will tell you this, all the things you read about how the MC is overly arrogant, or how there is slow or bad romance progress, or how MC is overly OP, it's all lies from people who havn't read the entire thing. This is a good read and totally worth a peek, and that is my unbiased opinion.

I've read the entire novel up to date (currently ch 446).
MC is only arrogant towards certain people because it's a strategy of his. It serves a purpose, which is one of the reasons why you'll probably grow to love this guy.

MC is also NOT OP, he possess vast knowledge about things that the people around him have never even heard of, this gives him a huge advantage over everyone else. But one slight mistake could cost him his life, he is constantly surrounded by foes that vastly surpass his powers and this story is about how he uses his knowledge to confront such foes and eventually surpass them.

Characters are NOT left behind as some people claim, all these characters serve a purpose and they serve it fully throughout the story thus far. If someone is seemingly "left behind" its only because they will sooner of later reappear to fullfill their part of the story. Bottom line is, everything regarding characters make sense.

Lastly, there is plenty of romance that will make you smile and feel giddery inside, it's true that Ni Lie has somewhat of an growing harem going on, but his heart belongs only to 1 person. He is just very protective of his friends and loved ones, people take this the wrong way. Ironically the author writes it very clearly so i dont even know how people can get it wrong...

Now you can choose to believe what the others are writing or you can choose to believe what i just wrote, it doesn't really matter since only you are the one missing out. I strongly recommend you give it a try with a open mind, chances are pretty good that you will get sucked in and stuck till the end.

Boring

Was good at first but started getting bored of it before even reaching a hundred chapters.

Romance doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Author introduces characters and quickly forgets about them. Not to mention MC gets really condescending on people. I get he's a 200+ something year old master that time looped but he doesn't need to be an asshole about it. He pretty much acts like the people he bashes.

Adults and Masters go to him for help and advice on everything despite him being only 13 in their perspective.

It feels like I'm reading bad fanfiction. Doesn't help that in the manhua version, the MC looks like Naruto w/ his first rival looking like Sasuke.

But the MC is too OP without giving a proper explanation for his OP powers. It would mostly say because of the 'temporal demon spirit book' and his reincarnation. Also, i really find its timeline confusing sometimes and i think it has become one of the problems of this series. I cant elaborate because im not good in english but if you read it you might agree with me. The author also likes to leave characters behind. He likes to introduce more and more but then he leaves them and then when they come back, they'd be OP too. So much for that

Mad Snail's BnLr $HlT

Was good until Mad Snail decided to lie about why he's not updating the story anymore. The list of excuses is long but the fact is he got caught red handed writing another novel and refused to apologize for the lies. Now he's decided to fast forward the story and end it as soon as possible however he's STILL NOT UPDATING THE STORY. We get now an update once every month and it's half the length it was before. Meanwhile Star Martial God Technique is getting 1 to 2 chapters A DAY. The fact is Mad Snail is not going to give TDG the ending it deserves because he got bored of it. Mad Snail has done this before with his previous novel before coming to write TDG. He apologized then and said he wouldn't do it again, what a giant lie that was.

I recommend you do not read this story because it will not have a good ending. Just imagine is J.K. Rowling decided to make HP 6 and 7 into Cliff Notes. that's what Mad Snail doing right now.

Was this written by a 10 year old ?

Ah the first CN i read. Almost made me give up on the whole genre. The idea of reincarnating in the past was and changing fate awesome. The execution was ... not.

As other people said, most of the novel (about 50%) is about showcasing the MC. We are reminded of how noble/powerful/cunning/good-looking,etc the MC is about 2-3 times per chapter. It gets to the point that the only purpose other characters have is showing how great the MC is. Which seems to be all bullshit based on how the MC acts, but I'll get back to this.

25% is the worst harem/romance i have ever read (and i have read plenty if fanfiction). The incredibly old MC spends a ridiculous amount of time chasing after and molesting a ~15 yeah old girl, while somehow acquiring an unwanted harem, because he is just so AWESOME!!! remember?

10% is worldbuilding (the only thing that made me read this untill around chapter 250). As this was the first CN i have read, the cultivating trope was all new to me, and i liked it. The was also interesting to read about. Because of the monsters, humanity had to hole up in cities in order to survive, ultimately forgetting a large part of their history. The average human had no knowledge of the outside world, beside the fact that it was filled with monsters. And right at the start, we are introduced to a MC that has been all over this world, has survived in it for a huge period of time (him being immortal and all that), and has even thrived in it. At the start off the novel, the MC gets reincarnated in the past and vows to use his knowledge to prevent the destruction of his home town. Who wouldn't want to read about that right? (even if it was shitty writing) But noooo, the author chooses to focus or praising the MC, contradicting himself all the time by portraying a shitty human being as a saint, and the shitty harem...

The rest is the so-called plot (which does not seem to have any direction, and will never get it since the author is dropping the series). In this, "plot", the MC basically proves that the 50% i mentioned earlier is all bullshit by an arrogant hypocrite that's just generally a shitty human being.

So in conclusion, the premise of this novel, and about 10% of it are good (even i it is shitty writing). But the romance is incredibly bad (i have never seen romance done well in a chinese web novel). While this could be ignored, most of the novel is hypocrisy. The portrayal of this douche of a MC as a saint ultimately made me feel the urge to scoop my eyes out with a spoon, and i had to drop the novel for my well-being.
I should point out that I don't mind asshole MC's, as long as the author portrays them as such. One series that does this well is Warlock of the Magus World, and i recommend it to any person that doesn't mind a selfish/practical protagonist.
This series, however, i would not recommend to anyone. Seriously, the are better thing you can do with your life.
