I can only sing its praises, I'm afraid...

It was Hanashi's wonderful scans that initially drew my attention to this series which even now remains one of my firm favourites, and I'm happy to say that even at 25 volumes the end is nowhere in sight. (Watch me eat my words later...) It reached #3 on Kono Manga wa Sugoi! for Feb '15 so I thought it could do with more publicity.

The plot keeps mostly true to its josei adventure roots throughout even though it's primarily based around academy life with various incidents and skirmishes interspersed regularly keeping the story well-paced.
The author is very obviously one of those manga artists who can't help but draw. You notice it in the attention paid to little touches like the tankoubon extras or newly drawn character introductions every vol or even the running jokes and filling out of minor details.
I'll admit I like DX's serendipitous laissez faire character too. Plus, despite being the protagonist the story also focuses on his parents (past and present) and surrounding characters too. With a healthy dose of humour it never takes itself too seriously, but there are serious moments. Romance? Barely noticeable.

DX with help from sister Ion and bodyguard-but-still-family-member Rokkou go off and finish the fight with the dragon their parents started - then get sent off to boarding school in the nation's capital. Since DX is eligible to be elected as a candidate for the throne, his laid back nature is at odds with his rank. Ion the tomboy is slowly refined into a genteel lady on the surface, but still keeps up qigong training with Rokkou and DX. Now add some colourful friends, conspiracies and a beginner's political debate over who will sit upon the vacant throne (and why.)

It's really cute~

Art and plot are both light and simple, but it's one of those manga that you just can't stop reading. It might seem like an adventure/fantasy cliche, but it's not! Characters are totally adorable too. I've only read three chapters but I'm liking it a lot.
