Slow paced start and barely explores the world(before moving to other parts)

I have mixed feelings about it. I could be way better but the MC is a scrooge. The author tries to convince us he's evil but he's just very selfish and has too much plot armour (he never fights someone stronger or has a total loss). If you're able to get over this it's great, the author is constantly adds stuff to keep us entertained.

I recommend reading it until he breaks the bloodline shackles and maybe to next ark to know a bit of the after world ch 778. After that he
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
goes into the world of gods
it turns into a DnD style novel which I quite dislike. At times when there aren't many things happening we can see how the author repeats stuff to get the word count for the chapter, like describing a spell ,thought or whatever with the same words as in a previous chapters this happens along the novel, but after chapter 800+- he shows his barely progressing stats too many times per chapter.

The good stuff is the consistent hard magic system. We also get to see many adversaries with different powers, later on the author really puts in the effort with the other civilisations and cultures. Though he isn't consistent with the value of money or how hard it is to advance (apparently everything is almost imposible even with the IA, but we're constantly seeing how others are perfectly fine without it so it's probably the translators fault) and the strength of wild animals .

Supposedly to hide, he doesn't give potions to his allies or help them in any way when needed. In consequence most of them en up getting wiped out for being weak /having no support, yet he sells batches of hundreds of potions (effectively being rich) without attracting attention. Of course for some random reason he randomly saves people (to later kill them of).

A especially frustrating instance of this is in the first "war", he gains nothing from hiding and the enemies have means to find them and the intention to killing them all. If he's so afraid of being discovered, why doesn't he just poison his opponents to disable them.

Later or it's frustrating how they always torch and kill everyone for no reason, when almost everything is supposed to be extinct. At times they kill off people just to say how ruthless everything is yet they could easily just make some kind of unbreakable pact and make use of them directly or simply as hostages like they do in "reverend insanity (Novel)". This is specially inconsistent since most of the time he gains nothing and he's constantly blabbering about how he shouldn't do unnecessary things .

I would not recommend this novel

Criticism of warlock: overuse of exclamation marks, too many liberties taken with translation, missing titles, characters suddenly appearing due to missing introductions.
After c100 translation quality (syntax) falls due to machine word replacement.

Translation issues aside. The story itself is also not very good. The protagonist is easily the most selfish backstabbing bastard I've ever seen in a Chinese novel. Unfortunately he's just too much of an evil asshole to get behind. There's also no overarching purpose to the plot other than to have the mc become more powerful, so if you're not a fan of the mc - the entire premise of story becomes pointless.

After reading 180 chapters I've decided to drop this novel.

Unique MC but everything else is mediocre

The Good:

-Neutral Evil MC. Only out for himself, pure and simple. Sheds no tears for those he kills, whether for profit, sport, experiments or convenience. Has no love of order and holds no illusion that following laws, traditions, or codes would make him any better or more noble. On the other hand, he doesn't have the restless nature or love of conflict that a chaotic evil villain has.
-Cliche lore, setting and backstory but somewhat interesting.

The Bad:

-Lots of useless chatter and poorly thought out storyboard with weird turn of events. Character conversations and thoughts feel awkward. Seems like author never thoroughly plan the plot progression and just writes whatever comes to mind.
-Plenty of Xianxia cliches in the plot.
-Has an interesting cultivation system with potential but unfortunately not expanded on with very little technical details and instead lots of gibberish jargon are thrown in just to make it look cool.
-Combat is probably one of its weakest point. Its basically rubbish.

The Ugly:

-MC's special ability generally kills the novel. The A.I. chip is literally the answer to everything. Defeats the purpose of him being a scientist and substitutes for any potential plot points, essentially lazy writing.
-Dull and bland overall storyline.

I really love the MC. A Neutral Evil MC is a refreshing take in Xianxia genre though i imagine many readers will dislike the MC for obvious reasons if they can't get out of the cliche troupes. Unfortunately everything else in the novel fails at almost epic proportions.

Unique

Unique in the sense that each guild is part of the light or the dark faction. The protagonist can't just beat down each nameless clan like in other Xianxia without retribution.

The presence of the two overriding factions also creates a feeling of politics that isn't seen in other Xianxia novels.

i get y ppl dislike this novel, for sure the mc kinda makes u sick if u are to uptight, but if read this novel how it should be done like a good reader, everything he does fits, both with his personality and the world he lives in.
If u want to read novels where u want the mc to be someone u want to be on ur loser life, its fine, u're a mediocre reader, but with u're really someone that loves to read, than this stuff is good!
The plot is consistent, he has his magical chip that got transportated, but its not too op, and u get this kinda stuff on every wuxia/xianxia, just give me one that doenst has any of this luck from heaven stuff that helps the mc?

So, in summary, the mc is not too op, but he is a sociopath, that fits the world they live in, cuz if u didnt notice it, everyone of the magi are too! "Lets look for the benefits" is the common word, even in the light faction right?

A lot of people are upset that the MC uses this chip to *analyze* stuff a lot and basically relies on it to be awesome at potions and sometimes calculate best movesin battles.

This isn't much different from a lot of other novels where derp MCs are really lucky and get some overpowered artifact that basically makes then awesome.

The difference is this thing isn't much more powerful than he would be naturally, it just takes out a lot of the time he would have taken practicing/memorizing things. It's not much more op than the time freeze pocket cheats used in other novels. It needs data to come up with anything, and can only make deductions he would have been able to make, given enough time. It's not weird for him to study a single topic with this chip for 10s of years.

Also, he doesn't win every battle. There is tension you wouldn't normally have when reading these kind of books. The goals for cultivation change quite a bit between each tier and his goals politically and personally change.

That said. This MC will trick you into thinking he's a decent person. Don't let him. =_= he will disappoint you in the end. Just remember. He looks out for number one. He will stab close friends in the face, if he can gain an inch in cultivation. He's that kind of mc. He'll be nice if he feels like it, but he'll murder a village if he feels like it.

"Luckily I had the A.I. Chip this time, if not I will be finished!"

That's basically the entire novel. Up to chapter 72, it's disgustingly generic xianxia that doesn't live up to the description. MC isn't particularly scientific, relying completely on the A.I. and not exploring the mysteries behind the world's magic. To be fair, he does look into potions and substitutes, but that's not science. Xianxia is basically anti-science, not in that it doesn't exist, but in that the older something is, the better it is. There's the usual "power is everything," which seems odd for a scientist from a futuristic world unless he had a very special life. Also, MC may be calculating, but that's boring when he mostly calculates how to be low-profile and not start feuds while also not plotting against other people or introducing any sort of conflict to the story. Smart approach, but not an interesting one.

Have a problem? Ask the AI to solve it. That's all this novel is about.

Also, @Forgotten10

The MC just massacred an entire city of innocent people for nothing...how is he not a bastard?
----------

To the others that will comment afterwards, don't say that he didn't know that his power-up would make those radiations because he knew pretty damn well that just the radiations emitted by the mere presence of an offical Magus could easily kill ordinary people.

I get it, with all the "It's not my job, I only care about myself" personaity that the MC has, he won't help anyone unless he gets some benefits. But that doesn't mean he can casually kill thousands of innocent people for nothing.

At any rate, the MC is a scumbag, a lowly piece of shit. He doesn't have any redeeming qualities or at least some extraordinary flaws like an evil MC should have. No, he can't even be called evil.

He's just a scrub abusing of his AI to get everything done. There's nothing extraordinary about him.on top of that he's a murdering asshole

An original, cynical reincarnation Xianxia relying on the usual tropes
by doucha

Rating: 5.8  / 10.0
It's a bit of a pity this series got such useless and misleading comments so far. They read as if for some reviewers it was their first Xianxia or even fiction novel.

In short, this is a web-novel with a unique, entertaining and intelligent yet typical reincarnation Xianxia story with well planned, barely foreseeable, however, repeating and convenient plot with average to good Xianxia writing quality.
Writing quality refers to the language and expressions the author uses, and average Xianxia level of quality equals to barely acceptable general novel quality.

You should understand that the protagonist is completely self-centered, cruel and evil not exclusively but in particular because he quickly grasps the brutality and cynicism of the new reality he ended up in, and that the sense of equality and moral justice of his previous world have no chance to prosper, gain him anything or preserve his life.

Hence, while the conditions of the law of the jungle are similar to other Xianxia stories the author doesn't notably justify the main character's actions with his circumstances or moral justice. Instead, this cynic lead casts away the now useless ethics and embraces the life of following one's personal benefit, pursuing a specific goal.

That said, despite the interesting portrayal of humans' vanity and egoism in its uninhibited form and the reminder on how essential our biological equality is to our social equality, this is still intended to be a leisure read of action and adventure for an established audience of Xianxia fans. So it isn't surprising that the MC chooses and encounters, respectively, a surprisingly fortunate chain of decisions and opportunities, and that the novel, similarly to many other works of this genre, suffers from occasional babbling, simplification, retrospective relativization, and redundancy. Still, although the writer cannot be exactly praised for literal creativity and elegance it is still acceptable and doesn't affect the reading experience too much.
Unfortunately, since the Chinese audience perceives language and consumes international media differently the author's generous use of names, environments from popular literature, media, cities, etc. appears quite cheesy or lazy to a Western reader.

Regarding specifics, I guess, I have to emphasize that the power of the chip isn't overwhelming, it is actually barely any different from powerful teachers or items MCs in other Xianxia stories can rely on during their accelerated progress. The MC isn't trash without it either, it is just his physical body that he took over which is average.

Considering how so many people vote 10/10, 5/5 unless something consciously bugged them, and that this novel's quality is, in my opinion, on par with popular stories like Wu Dong Qian Kun (Novel), Chaotic Sword God (Novel) or Ni Tian Xie Shen (Novel), I'd say it deserves more of such full ratings. However, for my own list I'm employing a much stricter grading system, that's why the number above is so low.

Lastly, I would like to point out that the tags "Technology Gap", "Hardworking Protagonist", "Scientists" do not fit here because this series doesn't represent what they imply.
There isn't a technology gap but different technology and distribution of it. While the MC is indeed hardworking in various ways it isn't an explicit subtext in the story. Similarly, while sorcerers are indeed researchers the tag "Scientists" implicitly refers to research of scientific fields as we know them in the real world.
In case anyone's wondering I'm the one who added most of the other tags as I was probably one of the few who had already caught up with the progress of the original while the translation had barely progressed.

2nd or 3rd rate novel
by David9513
January 14th, 2016, 7:53am
Rating: 4.0  / 10.0
Author naming sense is.. well.. Leylin (MC), Beirut, Hancock.. Beside that, MC relies too much on the A.I chip, in short : a problem? ask it! another problem? ask it! He needs just to randomly gathering information and let the A.I analyse it, later he will just follow it.
Moreover the A.I chip is the only thing which look like a futurist thing in this novel, without that MC is just a "trash".
