If you've read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes novels and short stories, then I recommend you not waste time (and maybe money, though scans(?) can be found if you know where to look) on this series. It's basically a retelling of select Holmes cases with a bit of additional drama and comedy courtesy of Christie and her wacky household staff, and sometimes a slightly different twist on the culprit and/or motive to provide the heroine a chance to shine. But those twists in and of themselves were pretty predictable, and the alterations in characterisation of some of the minor cast was nowhere near clever or amusing enough to hold my attention. This is nothing like the BBC's Sherlock series, so don't expect that kind of interesting variation on canon events, either.

But if you haven't read the Sherlock Holmes stories or just can't remember any/most of them, there might be something in this for you. I understand why Christie High Tension might have been popular in Japan (enough to warrant a sequel, in fact), but it's pretty baffling as to why it was fully published in English. Personally, I was bored enough that I only managed to struggle through 1 1/2 volumes before giving up.

I can't find fault with it. Oh, and I loved it!

I kept trying to think of a reason to mark it down to a 8 or 9, but it was perfect for what it was! I even saw the reason for the old-style art and became used to it rather quickly. I checked the 1st 2 omnibuses out from the library, but was so eager to read the last that I bought in upon sight, even though I'm on disability and have a lot of medical bills. ... Which, uh, I just mention to show you that my purchasing a book means a lot.

I absolutely loved the bit in the second omnibus, volumes 3 & 4, that had a story with the female lead of Dance in the Vampire Bund, and the story at the end by the mangaka of DitVB. I didn't mean to write this much. More later.
