Description
The series is set in New York City, and the main character is a young girl named Tista. In the day, she is a shy, introvert, church-going student whose ambition in life is to become a teacher. At night, she assassinates criminals as her alter-ego, Sister Militia. A special feature of her eyes give her the ability to spot a target from miles away, be it moving or stationary. Once she's spotted her target, it's one-shot one-kill. Why is Tista killing for the church? What happened to her father? How did she get those eyes?

Decent read but pacing was off

This was one of the very first works of the author who brought everyone the very entertaining manga Spy x Family. And it honestly shows it was one of his first..,

The pacing was off, and the plot was not clearly developed. However, the art wasn’t bad, the characters were not utterly lifeless, and the author was ok at creating mood.

Again, it was one of his first works. He has clearly developed his ability in storytelling as seen in Spy x Family.

Couldn't finish the first volume

I tried reading this but couldn't even finish the first volume. The story starts out predictive and boring with forced exposition. The premise is ridiculous, the characters are annoying, and I don't know if it's the original writing, the drawing or translation (or all three) but some pages are down-right erratic and nonsensical.
I simply couldn't keep reading this since it would be such a waste of time with all the good manga out there.

Silly concept, decent execution

For a lot of the first volume I was thinking 'this is ridiculous'. The premise is awful. At least Gunslinger Girl manages to give a fairly reasonable smokescreen for why making young girls into superassassins is a good idea. This just kind of vomits out nonsensical ideas.

But as it turns out, it's quite well executed. Not perfectly, but it still manages to capture the right mood and give a decent feel for the characters. The white-knight-redeems-the-girl thing is a bit flat ... but meh. I wasn't expecting much and so it was a nice surprise overall.

human emotion revealed~

this was amazing. it had a lot of strong and deep running themes and points, and the plot was developed very strongly. Like said before, however, it ends with a lot of unanswered questions. Tista is a good leading character in the plot, telling of human emotion and redemption and suffering.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
to answer the question about the presence of the doll, i think it represented tista's happiness. the "dad figure" gave it to her, and when he died, she shed emotions along with blindfolding the doll. at the end, it reappears with the promise of her sentence being released. just my opinion. :)

very surprisingly, a good deep read.

Pretty good...

Pretty good, with strong characterisation and engaging storytelling. The psychological factor was quite well-done too and it was very thrilling, exciting and suspenseful since you never know what's going to happen next.

A pity that the flow of the story was quite rocky and that many of the scenes(especially in the last few chapters) lacked continuity. Also, too many unanswered questions and even abrupt character appearances dented a fair amount of the storyline setup.

Nevertheless, a good read for teatime break. smile

Good Manga

Tista is a rare case of a manga actually managing to tell an engaging, interesting and complete story with only two volumes. It's exciting, well drawn, and well written. Tista herself is an interesting lead; it's rare for a female protagonist to be like her. There isn't much I'd say is wrong with it; a very solid title all around.

This's just awesome for a short series with nice start and nice ending. It really kept me on my toes throughout 9 chaps. And the protagonist pretty resembles Akito the fang king in Air Gear.

Very good. That's all I can say. Tight plot and action sequences, and it keeps you on your toes until the last chapter. Highly recommend, if you're not squeamish.

Amazing

I didn't expect a 2 volume shounen story to be this good. The art is nice, pretty decent.. But it doesn't matter compared to the storyline. Plenty of emotion and raw spirit were pumped into this series..and combined with its psychological aspect, it was absolute amazing. I recommend it.

The last two chapters of the manga, totally hyped this manga up for me. A very good well thought plot for a 2 volume manga. Kinda like Black Lagoon with a more solid plotline.
