Beautiful story

Great story, beautiful drawing too. Such a nice plot, because it's realistic, is not the lovey-dovey thing, it's serius and interesting. I really want to see the development, this story remind me just a little bit of "Smells like green spirit", of course is not the same context, but the story is kind of similar, sometimes it's hard to acept our true nature.

Some reviewers are stupid.

The reviewer below me doesn't seem to realize that there are many different cultures in this world, and that even within the same culture, people can come from different walks of life. What might seem normal to you, might not be the case for everyone. Some cultures are very conservative, some families are very traditional and strict, and thus even adult men and women can be very sheltered. Next time, before running your mouth about what is "normal" behavior, how about you open a book and educate yourself about things that exist beyond your little bubble. Your judgemental attitude, despite being patently ignorant, is rather repulsive.

That said, this manga is quite beautiful. It's not melodrama and angsty, as I thought it would be. Rather, I found it to be contemplative and thoughtful. I thought it did a pretty good job conveying the experience of a transgender person as he (or should I say "she" ) struggles with his dysphoria. Even as someone who does not share his struggle, I can empathize with his pain, and I rooted for him with every step he took towards becoming the person he is inside. I like that this manga doesn't preach at you about social justice or whatnot, and it doesn't virtue signal about itself. It just presents the story of a transgender person in a very personal and poignant way. I really liked it.

almost realistic

as a trans person, I really enjoyed how the author covered gender and sexuality in this story. the protagonist is very convincing, and the subtleties in how everything is experienced are very japanese.

however, from as manga and anime often do, there were too many contrived moments (spoiler to follow)
particularly when Masaki shows up at the gay bar... though I was glad they were able to talk and maintain their friendship without a very unrealistic turn.

so, it just missed a bit for me. still, worth a read, especially if you are looking for a realistic internal struggle of an lgbtq character in manga.

its those rare mangas that just hurts because its too close too reality >🙁

jokes aside, my favorite part was
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
when MC got a makeover in the gay bar. i'm seriously glad that MC was able to talk to others about it

ive heard of these kinds of experiences from trans people second hand, but experiencing it through a story is truly different. i almost cried i think. i imagine even this is not much compared to actually experiencing it in real life

Makes me learn about gender and sexuality

I only read some chapters and it really convey the internal struggle really well.

On the other side, there is a reviewer who said "do not keep your hopes up, if you're looking for proper shounen ai, look elsewhere and don't waste your time with this one"
Honestly, anyone who can read will know this is not shounen ai because no shounen ai tag and there is shoujo tag.

And the other, this person said the characters are stereotypical and act like what you expected. But you sound like someone who is surprised because of something the character doesn't know. That's contradicting. As someone above this reviewer already said, everyone have different culture, you maybe surprised that university student don't know that gay and gay club exist but there are people who don't know. I am not sheltered and I live in big city but I don't know about gay until high school and don't know about gay club until university because my country is still against LGBT so information about this is not widely known. Can you imagine people in my country who live in village with limited access to information? That's what reviewer above you want to say with what you consider as "normal" is maybe not for other.

Honestly there is nothing wrong with characters who do something you expect on the other hand it makes sense. Example: No wonder Etsuko act like that, she was raised with those type of value. On the other hand if it's not in line with their personality, it will be out of character. If you don't like characters who act the same way till the end then it's your problem, this story is not about those characters change behavior.

focus not quite decided

There was a bit of a melodramatic love story, a bit of gender identity issues, but what to do when there are only 2 volumes. I would have wished it to focus more on the MC and their journey finding their identity (seperately from their involvement with the love interest). Honestly, the love story of the LI was kinda pointless and too dramatic, it doesn't have to be lovey-dovey (I don't like those either) but this was past the point of realistic imo.

Do not expect a happy ending

Sorry, but I think everyone should know about it. Ugh... The premise was soo good, but the execution and the ending ruined it all. Also, do not keep your hopes up, if you're looking for proper shounen ai, look elsewhere and don't waste your time with this one.

The story: well, there's nothing much of a story here, just some SOL-ish interactions between a couple of students.
The characters: oh, the characters. Except for Yuuji, I hated everyone. Matsunaga was a jerk
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
(and no, not because he didn't like Yuuji back, but because he slept with anyone who aproached him, and he kept Yuuji around himself after turning him down, just for his own convenience... And the poor guy kept suffering because of this unrequited love. No, you fricking can't be "besties" after you learned he loves you and you turned him down. That's not how it works.
The girls were also awful. The tomboy (I forgot her name)
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
behaved like Matsunaga's wife after she dragged him into a "relationship" with her, not leaving the guy alone for a moment.
Etsuko was also a terrible character, just like kidoraku said, so fake, it hurts.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I can't get what Matsunaga saw in her, like really, I can't name one good personality trait about her, besides her being pretty, which tells a lot.

Yuuji on the other hand was a breeze of fresh air in this mess, the only likeable character. I felt his pain, and I'm so sad he has fallen in love with such a jerk, and has to suffer because of it. I just wanted to hug him along the entire manga. This would have been a masterpiece if the authors were concentrating on Yuuji and his gender dysphoria alone, and not dragging in some shitty, borderline melodramatic elements
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I'm looking at the suicide-attempts
, and bad characters.
The art: it's very pretty, really, the only good part of this manga.

It's a bit annoying.

The plot is all right, same goes for the storytelling, it's not great but there is no harm in it. Nevertheless, I was surprised with the characters. They were made on a stereotypical characters basis. I mean everybody. Every single character is a representative of a certain type of personality and does only what is expected of him.

They were all stuck in their model type of behaviour. It felt fake and forced at times so I couldn't bring myself to really like any of them. For example Yuuji - the only son, raised in a wealthy family, with famous father and sis - he grown up in such a proper environment that despite being twenty, he had no idea that gay clubs do exist(sic!) and you can meet a transvestites in those clubs. He thought he's the only one like that (sic!). I mean, are you kidding me? university student who doesn't know there are gay people in this world? and gay clubs? Gimme a break.

Or Etsuko's case - a model Japanese young woman -> she's obedient, always smile, she never rise her voice, she has long hair, always wear a skirt (a woman has to wear a skirt) and do what her parents tell her to do (even if she's twentysomething). Well at least she had balls to run away but... only to come back after a little while.

The end is surprising and I guess I don't know what to think of it. It's not good. I mean story starts with a mess and ends with a mess. I prayed for at least clean cut, but nah... Seriously I've never read something similar to this manga. It's a bit odd oh and there's no sex at all... it's not up to my liking.

Edit
yeah some reviewers are stupid. I perfectly realise that there are many cultures in this world and I never used a word "normal", not a single time so you better pay attention when reading others' comments. I said I'm simply displeased with mangaka using stereotypes to built every single character in this manga. It was pure stereotype, without a single change. It's boring AF cause characters became flat and you knew from the start how everyone will act till the very end.
