I’d say this is a story that’s more about the vibe than it is the exact message. The exact message seems to be ‘don’t pretend to be something you’re not’ and ‘don’t think you’re above where you come from.’ I don’t think Miyo was ever wrong to want to get away from the only world she knew, but I am a little put off that the author made her return because everything in city apparently went bad for her despite her best efforts. Just seemed silly to me. Wish the reasons were more focused on what the ML had said about “trying too hard until you run out of steam.” A story about a woman returning to her slow-placed hometown after being burnt out by the hectic pace of an unfamiliar city would have made more sense than what’s implied…which is that she just failed.
