Description
From Tokyopop: Tian and Drei von Richenstein, two unlikely heroes, embark on an adventure filled with excitement, intrigue, and comic relief. Their adventures are complicated by the fact that they have a knack for making allies into new enemies...
Ah, I like it so much, but it's so short. The art is gourgeous. The main chars are lovable (Tian the unlucky wizard takes the cake of unlucky wizards) and one easily feels for them. Even if the story is primarily humour, it turns darkish at times, not failing to explore RPG-cliches on the way. It's Slayers Korean-style, and very good at that. I'd even say that if the authors would have been born at the right country at the right time, Slayers could go for a quiet smoke in the corner. I mean, like, the only thing why I wouldn't rec it is that you sit and stare agape at the end of the 5th volume and say - WTF? The end? Damnit, I want 10+ vols of it!
It's quite a shame this series was cancelled so early, just as the main plot was getting into gear. At least the cutoff was at a somewhat natural point, rather than at a cliffhanger. As it stands, it works well as the prologue to what could have been a good epic fantasy. New and used copies can be found cheaply and easily, and they're well worth a read.
