From Manga-Sketchbook:

Young Ko is about to learn a new hobby...

Ko Higaonna, sharing a moment with his not-quite-girlfriend Satomi, is disturbed to discover a sallow-faced man watching with infrared goggles from the darkness. Ko's sense of privacy is offended, and soon blood is spilled, and the goggles pass into new hands. But the Voyeur remains, and now Ko is his pupil, about to discover what goes on beneath the smiles on people's faces... What goes on in private, in the dark...?

Interesting but not deep or thought-provoking

Worst thing about this manga is that it feels incomplete. And it's never completed actually. The sequel goes with a completely different crew of wholly unlikeable and despicable characters/sleazebags that lack any deeper drive behind their actions apart from getting their daily kicks. If they're not doing voyeurism as a job, they're doing it to satiate their perversion.

At least in Voyeur there is a hint of a more meaininful motive behind all this. To expose society's ills and under the surface instincts. How easily people can betray or why. Sadly none of this is delivered intelligently. The manga has nothing to say about all these topics. Nothing to give you to think about. The characters, their motives, their actions and their thoughts are displayed in a subpar fashion that makes it obvious that the author didn't give this much thought. The second story is a classic stalker story that the Voyeurs inc. are trying to stop. And it ends.

Interesting to read because of the subject matter and the promise of something bigger, nothing to take away from it or remember it by. Ultimately, it's shallow, haphazard and hasty.

At least the first part/chapter (it's divided in two) was a really great one that gave me access to a few different emotions. The second was a more standard take on a "PI with a twist"-manga.

For years I dismissed this because I thought it'd be twisted and disgusting, but as I grew older the idea of "professional voyeurism" became intriguing enough to push me to read. I'm quite happy with my choice, as the concept was unique and the execution quite amusing.

Oddly enough, the unrepentant social deviant Takuro - the protagonist's 'mentor' and eventual partner-in-crime - slowly grew on me due to his unusual life philosophy, talents worthy of an Interpol spy, and calm, surprisingly mature demeanour. (Though I guess his utter lack of arousal at seeing anyone naked/in sexual situations, watching it all with detached academic interest that spoke to the psychologist in me, played a big part in that). The protagonist, Ko, on the other hand, was your typical hot-blooded 20-something guy -- not particularly skilful or appealing in any way. Still, he did provide a good foil for the stoically composed Takuro, and brought with him the 'emotional,' 'man-on-the-street' facet of the plot.

It's a shame Shin Nozokiya was never scanlated to completion; I'd have loved to see how the mangaka takes this weird "occupation" to new heights.

This manga was very interesting in the way it did what it did. Gives you a slightly different look at voyeurism. A more proffesional look so to speak.

Creative. I just wish that this had went longer instead of moving on too voyeurs inc.

read it 20 years ago in a serial magazine, misogyno creep fare
it's obsolete now due to the technological leaps in 2018~
anyone can hack your phone nowadays and get your sexts sent to them while providing tracking 24/7
why anyone would want to read about such things....?
ick
