Description
From Esthétique:

"I am a human, but a doll...
Feelings are not needed. Physically alive, but not mentally.
I am a painting trapped inside a rusted frame.
The cold skin of a statue.
Like a stuffed bird--
Killed and set for display.
I wonder...
I wonder, on whose display I will be placed..."

Just right :)

Loved it! Some might not like it because of it's dark and 'mature' themes, but I thought everything was well conveyed, and well balanced! The art was awesome, very moving at times >u< The pace was good, nothing seemed particularly rushed, though by the end, you kind of notice Suzette grows really quickly.

I had a different storyline in mind when I first stumbled on the description, and thought she was a real doll or something more 'fantasy' like. Turns out she's a human, which made it more realistic.

This manga is very similar to Hana to Akuma, except darker. biggrin

Dark

This manga was really dark. Some people will think it's a bit too much and probably won't be able to take it but some may find it unique and beautiful. I thought it was in the middle. It was alright but not something i would read a second time.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I couldn't stand that after she gets raped, it's like he was totally fine with it as if it wasn't a big deal. I mean yeah she's like a prostitute anyway but still, coulda had more feeling to it. The romantic as well as character development was too slow for me and everything was a bit too much. Everyone made such a big deal about her having tattoo's on her stomach and it was just wrong how everyone treated her like a sex toy when she's only 14.

It was okay... but a bit too much for me.

Nice romance and art

Suzette is a 14 year old that is auctioned off and bought by Ian, a wealthy shipping tycoon of non noble birth. He scorns and defies his aristocratic business associates who lust after Suzette, as she is a collectable piece of art, with a remarkable painted body. Ian becomes Suzettes protector but eventually falls in love with her, as she matures and ages. Their romance is subtle and direct without the melodrama associated with most shoujo. Also, both characters are well-matched. Don't get side tract by the age difference because she ages in the story.

... and i have to say its worth it!!

i love it!! ohhhh.. Ian!! i really have a thing for historical- english mangas so i guess thats a plus point... i really, really love this.. right now i cant think of any words to describe it because of lack of sleep... but the words that wil come out of me with greatness are teh ones that will prove how great this is!!

ok... i really felt sorry for Suzette.. i mean... wow... what a dark story...
and also Ian.. reminds me of Kuroshitsuji... nice...

overall i think that its really nice.. the pacing the art... its all good!!

yeah... yeah...

<edit>
it was very pretty till the very last page. i really hope that there was someone for Johns though, he was like a provider for comic relief smile and yeah this isnt one of those mangas that make you feel breathless the first chapters and then make you feel bored because it was dragged. just too awesome! wont change my rating! <333

Great Story, Not for Everyone

Loved this! For months I've been skipping this manga because I thought it would be childish and somewhat creepy/lolita. However, 5 pages in and I knew I'd enjoy this. The story is a darker historical romance geared toward older teens. There are touches of prostitution, bondage, posessive love with definitely great English backdrops and a European ambient.
Disreguard the cover image for the manga on this website, the art inside is fantastic and not creepy/lolita at all. The story is great, though it is definitely more suitable for fans of drama or even fantasy rather than fans of romantic comedy. The story is a real ride that pulls through beginning to end, and was really (surprisingly) one of those stories that get more heartpounding the second time around when all the character developments make sense.

When I first read the description, I thought the girl would be a doll, but it was actually a human. I thought it would have some fantasy pretty much.

But it's just a historical drama with great atmosphere. However, it is not that innocent, I warn you.
So far is good.

Beautiful art, story lacks depth

This story really wasn't what I had in mind after reading the summary. Well, I don't to spoil anything, so here you go:

Spoiler (highlight to view)
I thought she would be some kind of a doll, which would have made the story so much more interesting. In fact she has butterfly tatoos over her body and is people are totally capitivated by it and she has been auctioned her whole life from one place to another.

What really creeps me out is the fact that she is a 14 year old girl and everyone sees her like some kind of s*x toy...The fact that Ian is about 25 doesn't make things better. True he tries to fight it, but still it is deeply disturbing.

The art is beautiful and even though the story does lack depth here and there, it kind of mesmerized me from time to time.

What bothers me is that Suzette is a total weakling. I mean I know she has been through rough times, but god it is annoying. How come almost every female lead out there breaks down once a chapter?

Luff this~ Maybe I just have a weakness for manga not set in modern time? But, I love most of the artwork, the setting and story type is different from my usual(but its very enjoyable), and the characters are just so wonderful!! >.< Anyways, I recommend it. *nods sagely* But, obviously its not for all. There are some very conflicting views on it.. </3 If you like a bit of darkness with your romance, read it, read it!!! It's a 10 fer me~

I'm just wandering what the writer is trying to get at with the story line. The art has some good moments but for the most part this kind of fell flat for me.
