Description
Katagiri Aoi lives in the countryside, and likes it just fine there. Yet, to her dismay, her parents are moving to Tokyo, and she has to come along. Just before leaving her home town, however, she has a chance encounter with a visiting Tokyoite, Sugita Tsuyoshi, a city-born playboy type. On impulse, he kisses her--only to realize that this kiss, unlike all the others, carries unexpected meaning for them both.

A bit much for such a sad story.

The drama was a bit mellow dramatic.. I expected more of a story to have more death then what it did have.. Artistry not my favourite as well.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
country girl meet city guy.. They fall for each others then country guy comes and try's to take her the whole time.. Girl all of a sudden has an illness. Gnat never shows at all through the manga.. Expected more.

Letdown

After reading all the high ratings below, I was expecting a powerful tragedy with an amazing romance story to boot. But after reading it, I wasn't left with sadness or anger like in typical tragedies. I just felt a massive letdown

I will admit: the story is sad. But the characters and the plot severely underplay the underlying tragedies. With the exception of the male lead (who is decent, but not lovable), all the characters in this manga are face-palm worthy. The female lead makes your typical airhead girl look like a genius and the rival male lead is the most irredeemable character I have ever encountered in my history of reading manga.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Not only does he pursue the female lead with lies, trickery, and deception, but he remains completely unaffected by her incoming death. Why did he even love her and force all that unnecessary drama onto her? The most rage-inducing part is that he is seen with a girl in the time-skip epilogue. He clearly had very little incentive to cause so much melodrama throughout the manga

The family of the female lead was the most face-palm worthy part of this manga. The father does not care for the girl's happiness whatsoever and the mother's lack of intervention only strengthens my resolve to dislike the family. They finally let them see eachother when she's dying? Terrible logic. If you wanted to make her last days happy, you should've realized that it'll make her happier for them to date before she dying.

I was so determined not to cry while reading this but I just could not help it. I absolutely try to avoid tragedies because in the back of my mind I will always wonder 'what if...' I really liked it deslite the ending. But then again the tragedy is what makes the story. This was a mote srious manga and it just showed reality basically. I enjoyed it even though it was tragic T-T

Tear Jerker, but worth a read~

I read this long ago but I still vividly remember the emotions it brought forth within me.

I'm not one for tear jerking manga and for some reason, I ignored the "Tragedy" tag this manga has. At first, once I realized where the manga was going, I thought of dropping it because, like I said, I'm not one for sad endings. Yes, I know, that's life. But BECAUSE I know, I'd like to see life a little happier in the stories I read.

But I kept reading it, and I'm glad I did. It has meaning and the ending wasn't as tragic if you view it from a different angle, because at least there was a smitch of happiness in the end. The characters are as deep and real as the story and they're beautifully drawn. Nothing less from Shimaki-sensei.

It's a tragic romance that will leave you with watery eyes, unless you're a robot, but yet a warm feeling in your heart.

It was really pleasant to read, but the plot was very classic. Beside that, was a great serie. Aoi was sometimes funny, and sometimes a little dummy, but... i enjoyed~ At the end, you will need a tissue, because is all crying! Very sad but funny at the start. I really like it!

Heart wrenching

This was an endearingly sweet and bitter tale of first love. The art did fail in some areas and the story at times seemed to drag but it was a good read.

i was wondering the other day how a shojo could be comedy and tragedy, but i understand now. it had parts that had me bursting out laughing. xD make sure to read the author's little blurb corners, or whatever, they're hilarious! it kind of balances it out.
definitly sad, but definitly a good story. tragedy is the best emotion to always affect the reader's heart.

edit: just finished reading the side stories, and they're pretty good too. i LOLOLOLed at the second to last one! XDDD omggg i'm still laughing! it was great! hahahaha. the last story was good too. XDD "handsome-kun.." pffffft. i'm glad she put those after, it made me feel better. (:

anyways, i wish she would have made a side-story about the couple re-incarnated or something.

My first Shimaki Ako series. I remember crying a lot while I was reading this and the ending was sad, but I don't think it was really tragic.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Yeah it sucks that she died, but at least she died happy-ish. Sugita stayed with her til the end and he grew up, fulfills her wish of becoming a teacher and moves on with life, while thinking of her.

This manga was really sweet and i when i read it before i never expected that to be the ending because the genre didn't have Tragedy on it before so i never knew.. I am a type of person who doesn't read these kind of manga's because they're so.. sad to the point where it makes you want to cry so i usually avoid it but yea, i didn't know it was a tragedy manga for it didn't say that before. But, i'm really glad i read this because it was memorable and beautiful. Truly an unforgettable manga.

This story was enjoyable, that's for sure. I really like all those passionate I will always love you forever and ever kind of romances, so yeah. xD; I read this a year ago and I remember crying at the end. I don't cry at manga much so I guess that says something. Then again, the movie "A walk to remember" made me cry too. Read it if you like dramtic shoujo mangas. If you don't and will complain about the over-dramatic-ness, then don't. Drama is for me. :]
