Giocatore, Hokaku Keikaku is a volume of seven very smutty oneshots following men and their es(sex)capades. This could have been one of many similar and bland volumes of work, but Giocatore is a breath of fresh air.
ZeroNine previously said that Kijima's artwork is incredible, and I'd like to second that. It's most definitely the first thing that will attract people to the series. Think of the details and shading of Naono Bohra coupled with the slick, unique shapes of Suzuki Tsuta and you have Kijima Hyougo. She is a new talent to definitely watch out for.
As for the literary content of Giocatore, well, don't expect anything too great. To begin with, they're unrelated oneshots. Each chapter begins and ends a new story. They're also very smutty. The sexcapades run from sex toys to BDSM, threesomes, wrestling... Everything. What I did find, though, was that the sex generally didn't take over the story. In similar pieces of work, mangaka have allowed the sex to take over the story; It begins and suddenly becomes irrelevant to the development of the characters. In Giocatore, their sexual acts are part of the story.
All the stories explore a theme of chasing someone unobtainable in some way. The soccer manager is chasing the star player, the guitarist is chasing the rock star, the teenager is chasing his childhood nii-chan. The best part of their stories is the fact that they are undeniably male. They are physically strong, virile young men chasing after the one they love. Slight improvements and a little more experience will make Kijima Hyougo a massively popular mangaka with near perfect pieces of work.
In the end, it's still very smutty. Though not overly graphic like some stories, it does have a higher level of sex and explicit content. For those of you who can't stomach it, this series isn't for you. For the rest of us, who love our man smecks, dig in! Giocatore, Hokaku Keikaku is deliciously naughty. The characters are likable, the stories are a mix of sweet and sour and the art is gorgeous.
