Description
In a small regional town in 1980s southern Japan, Sakutaro "Saku" Matsumoto and Aki Hirose, who were classmates all through junior high school, become high school students and then fall in love with one another. They share audio diaries, go on excursions together, and enjoy summer vacation.
However, Aki soon finds herself suffering from Leukemia and begins to weaken day by day, rendering her unable to see Saku or go outside...

big disappointment. The plot was way too cliche, like every other sad couple story out there... and come on lukemia! w/e Even though it does do what it does best, make people sad, it was not really sad, because the plot was way too cliche. Maybe im sayin this because im a guy reading a shojo manga, which is kinda sad to begin with, but i thought this would be much sadder.
The art is... really messy and not nice~
The story is bittersweet and nice.
But the way it's told... Too many refferences to death - from jokes to illneses and death... Kind of like in yaoi, when a person is gay, suddenly everyone is gay too~
yeah..
The ending makes up for some parts.. sad..

It's amazing to see what kinds of romantic hardships people can endure and still keep living. Socrates in Love was able to add that sad romantic touch yet keep it realistic and allow many people to remember their loved ones. Absolutely recommented.
Here's a quick summary I stuck together.
The sweet love a an average guy and a beautiful girl. The young, naive couple undergo the hardships of love. The girl is stricken with a disease. Will it be cured? What will happen to them...? A beautiful story of bittersweet love.

It's a wonderful manga with a unique art style. Loved it. The characters came to life for me when I read it.
