Starts out so great...and.then...

And then it just turns boring and tedious and altogether terrible.

I too loved Merupuri, but this isn't even half as good as that was. Once the first giant arc is over and the big twist happens, everything just goes completely downhill from there. And the incest angle is just...ugh. I love taboo as much as the next person, but there's something especially creepy about how it's played out in this manga. Maybe because NO ONE seems to point it out. They act like it's just common place.

I just feel like it's being dragged out for no particular reason. We all know Yuki is going to end up with Zero at some point because he's just the main guy. So if we could get on with that, that would just be loooovely.

It was good...

When I first got into this, I went crazy. I was so amazed with the artwork and I really liked the story line. But now it's starting to lose it's touch. It's not funny anymore like it used to be and I can see that it's because things are getting more serious now, but it' s not really a mood lifter like before. Plus the wait is so long, and I get so excited that I finish the new chapter in the blink of an eye T.T.

Nonetheless, I'm going to continue reading this just in case because I really want to know what happens. I just hope that it doesn't become a tragic love story...

I'm becoming very impatient with Vampire Knight. Not only did it not turn out the way I wanted it to (with the whole couples thing), but it's dragging on and on. I'm so close to just giving up on it, but I'm only continuing because I think Zero is gorgeous (but his emotional instability is killing me). I still think Kaname is evil and twisted underneath (can't help it) his calm exterior. I don't know what will happen, but I'm trying to continue hoping that it will get better. I'll be updating this if anything changes.

I realized that this series is my guilty pleasure. I gave up on it for about five months, then came back and am hooked on it again. And I have no idea why. Although I should have given out of frustration long ago, I'm still holding on.

The art's really good, maybe the best

It's a manga after all, and I don't really expect a manga to have a plot as interesting as a novel does, so I think the plot is good enough. The only problem being too much drama and no comic relief.
Anyway, the art is so gorgeous that even if there was no plot at all it would be worth reading just for that.
The popularity lists? Actually I don't really get them either. There's manga listed at the top of those lists that I would rate 4 at the most. I guess when something gets popular, more people read it out of curiosity.

Still Hanging On

I've read a whole lot of negative comments about Vampire Knight, and I just can't help but agree with them.

After reading a whole lot of shoujo titles (85% of what I read are shoujo), VK has started to lose its initial grasp on me.
The story is getting rather complicated; I'm not even certain on where it's going anymore.
And then there's the relationship between Yuki, Kaname and Zero. It is well played, but it lacks a certain...something.
Bishies alone can't keep a reader's heart for long, and this is the case for VK.

I'm still reading it, but just not following it as avid as before. There are better vampire genre manga out there, but I'm just keeping this for old time's sake.

Yeah not only does it have HOT boys but its very full of drama~!!! Sexy, dark, lustful everything I love about a good shoujo manga <3
I guess those who bash it should just stick to reading a boring old romance book T_T
So if your looking for a good long series to read I would totally reconmend this lovely drawn manga!

Okay, I started reading this manga because about ten different people recommended it to me, and because it's one of the top shoujo manga on pretty much every popularity list I've ever read.

Apparently, popularity doesn't count for much anymore.

I got to chapter forty-three, and just couldn't keep reading. It was alright at first, but it's just been a downward spiral since. Even the bishies can't keep me into it any more.

Yes, the art is pretty good. Yes, the plot is pretty original. Yes, it isn't just another love triangle. And yes, it does have uber-sexy, we-don't-drink-blood vampire-bishies.
But the plot drags, and there's no comic relief - it's all drama. The main character is annoying, perfect, and a major Mary-Sue (and the other characters aren't so very flawed either), and all three of the major characters (Yuki, Kaname, Zero) have traumatic pasts they just can't seem to let go of, which is boring and annoying to no end.(Um, did anyone else just think 'Twilight'? Sorry, I had to say it.)

I totally agree with all the points Synthoxide and Aristocrat have made. If you're looking for something truly entertaining, with great characters and a killer plot, this manga almost definitely isn't for you. ...But if you just want to look at cute bishies and don't particularly care what they're doing or how annoying they are, go ahead and read.

I, personally, am going to have to drop this, and go look for something with a little more depth, or at least something I can laugh at.

Disappointing

Vampire Knight is one of those endlessly long stories that are gettting more and more boring and clichéd by the time.

I loved Hino Matsuri's Merupuri. It was a cute, fantastic story full of cliffhangers that always kept me in suspense. When I started reading Vampire Knight, I expected an intriguing, authentic, dark and even more suspenseful manga, but what I have got is somewhat disappointing.

The two main vampires, Zero and Kaname were pretty interesting in the beginning, but after a while, Zero's neverending self-pity and cold attitude and Kaname's predictable reactions and typical vampire behavior started getting me on my nerves. As for Yuki, she is an ordinary, powerless girl you can find in the most shoujo mangas. She has been simply annoying and dull from the start.

Although the concept of the story sounds promising, it is at least as tedious as the characters. The twist are boring, plus there are a host of mulling and pondering in the story that always make me want to jump to the next chapter. I guess Hino Matsuri herself is extremely bored with her "masterpiece".

All in all, the whole manga is a great disappointment. The drawing style is amazing as expected from the mangaka, but the story and the characters have got no potential. I give it a three because of the eye candy and the good start, and try to avoid everything VK-related in the future.

This is getting really tedious. It's still good, but I need it to end. Now it's doing that thing that everyone hates - crawling so slowly through a plot, you can't help but sit there and think 'Is this chapter really important?'

I do like the plot, I'm glad it's not just a love triangle because I don't really believe in those, anyway (chose one or have none, don't push them both through a painstaking process), and yes, there are a lot of pretty faces. And the plot was (key word being was) amazing.

Now the plot is like a downhill spiral, you have no idea what's going on and I'd like to think there was an end in sight but every chapter seems to prove me wrong. I've been feeling that way since the last chapter of volume 10.

I'm trying to figure out what the heck is happening, and yes, I know
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Yuuki and Kaname are related, and that's grand. But if they are basically destined to marry, why in the hell is she hanging on to Zero like that? I understand it's saddening to lose a friend, but treating him as another love interest this late in the game is just wrong.

I pity Zero, but as Aristocrat said, his advances are almost so wrong, that he shouldn't suffer, because Yuki's not picking it up, but Kaname is. It's not funny when your love rival is laughing at you on the sidelines while you pining over a girl who doesn't even know it.

Kaname's my favorite, but he's just becoming insane now. I mean, he was already twisted, but now, he's twisted. You get my drift? And I can't embrace that and say "Kyaa, Kaname's so cool~!!" Instead, I'm sitting here like "Why in the hell did you do that? Or what are you doing?"

Anyway, back to the original point. Every volume after 11 without and ending in sight docks down my points for this. And unless Hino Matsuri-sensei comes back with an amazing ending that WOWs everyone and makes them want to read it again, I just can't see myself feeling that the last few volumes were worth my time. And yes, there were some good scenes, but I'm a plot person, so if in between those scenes there's a funky plot I can't get into, the whole manga is ruined for me.

I suggest reading the first few volumes and stopping at around 40. That might change, so don't hold me to it. Yet.

I think the whole idea of the night class & day class is a good idea. Pretty much the whole plot is. But the way it was written and put together...wasn't all that exciting. More talk than action in this, and the anime was kinda boring as well...
But it was okay I guess.
Hot characters and all...but this is the kinda manga you'd only find yourself reading once. not a bunch of times.
