Sto...ry? What? Where?

The Art is nice. You you have some fanservice.
But there is not a real story, point.
Maybe the translation (of volume 1) is that wrong in the overall content, not the single words, that i have this impression. But i suspect that there was no real story to begin with and the translation could be bogus on top of it.
If you use the plot technique of this manga in theater, it is called "deus ex machina". There is always something happening whit any explanation out of the blue. So you constantly try to understand what and why something happens. What they trying to sell to the reader, as a story, is only big BS, for example:
Because the main character (a nobody young boy) wanted to escape bulling in his old school the prime minister(!) of the country were the main character lives in, let him crossdressing as the Princess of the country and transfer to a special all-girls school. Even if he needs a impersonator for the princess, why a all-girls school in which security is a joke? And why him?
Because the main character has a memento from his mother, which by cosmic fate is a super-super mighty thing, and he has to keep it secret, EVERYBODY in his new school knows about it the moment he set his foot in the school.
Because the Head of the school knows he is a boy, and tell him he will be castrated if he touch one of the girls in the school, he (playing the royal princess) has to live whit two girls in the same room (ok, one of them is plain stupid and thick as a brick). By the way the head of the school knows that it would have serve international consequences if it will be found out that that the princess is in truth a impersonator.
No, this don't spoils anything, this is only from the first 2 chapters. And this could go on an on.

Of course in a comedy manga you don't need logic so much ... but wait this manga is not comedy (maybe a bad one). And it is annoying if EVERYTHING is justified whit some cosmic coincidences or pure illogical reasoning. And the oozing pathos in some encounters is repelling. And of course every new opponent is bigger and stronger than a conventional 40 Megaton A-Bomb or 45 Megaton or 50 Megaton or 55 Megaton or ... you get picture. And of course the opponents know everything, so they have alway the surprise and have planned all ahead.
So in the end the only one who can beat the biggest opponent are the beginner in class 1 of the school for superhuman fighter (=Otome). There is nobody else to do the job.

If you like turning points in the "story" like "OMG, he is stronger than the last one!" and some fanservice, than look at pictures, do not bother to read the text. If not, than use your time in a better way than trying to read this manga.

I'm glad I decided to watch the anime anyway after reading this after being assured that they're entirely different. The anime is fun - this is just boobs and fanservice and wtf.

So, yeah - if you like fanservice, I suppose it's great. There really isn't much else here though - the plot is a very thin excuse for putting a guy in an all girls school so that boobs can ensue. Doesn't really try and make sense.

This manga kicked butt.

This manga kicked butt. However, I didn’t like the fact that Mashiro was a dude, but the drawing made up for that! I spend hours staring at the images. Just dazed by how well they were drawn. Nothing compares to it. Not any other Mai Hime/Otome anime or manga.

Maybe I would've liked any more if it was like this funny, ecchi and light manga.

Look at the first review... does that person think that manga are based of anime? Anyway, I'd say this is a great manga, and the anime shouldn't be looked down upon because all anime are not as good as their manga counterparts. I would recommend the anime, although I've only read the first volume of the manga, because it seems to have more of a story, whereas the manga is focused on the Ecchi element.

More of Mai-HiME

The mangata must love the characters from Mai-HIME again and again in different roles. Like Mai-HIME, the manga and the anime of Mai-Otome (or Otome-HIME) are worlds apart with the same people doing different roles, being the manga more H and the anime more drama. I enjoyed them both and for the manga in particular you can expect the same quality as the previous Mai-HIME manga: fun, fan service, and tons of panties shots. If you liked the Mai-HIME series, you won't be dissapointed with Mai-Otome.

very interesting read. Much better than the anime imo. Ties both (Hime and Otome) series together in it's own way which the anime fails to do. Very enjoyable

Much better than the anime, much above my expectations in total. The anime can go burn in hell for all that matters, but this manga is a must read.
