i must say i dont like sports mangas related with romance cuz the romance is almost non existent but this 1 is actually alot better and honestly the main char actually pays attention to the romance which is refreshing for a change and it actually has a realistic feel to it. Im up to ch 82 and lemme tell u this manga doesnt disappoint give it a shot smile

A pleasant surprise

I usually don't like sports mangas. Sometimes they are boring and there's even been a few I found where the author obviously doesn't know the sport very well. I've only found a few gender-benders that are really worth reading, most recycle the same ideas and jokes and gets kind of boring. So Nononono for me is a pleasant surprise.

The author does a great job of making ski jumping exciting and interesting. The story has good drama and adversity. Yes, there are a few unrealistic even downright silly parts but if you are not too picky its forgivable. Its tough to juggle so many genre categories: Sport, drama, gender-bender, romance, etc., and I think the author for the most part has done a decent job of blending them without making a mess.

The art is ok in some places in others its downright hilarious and great (those closeups of the emperor's face).

I'm up to chapter 70 and all in all I'm really enjoying this series.

Update---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, it seems that the manga maybe wasn't doing so well and they started then to get a bit heavy handed with the fan service to try to boost sales, which was a shame because I thought it was a good story and didn't need the extra boobie shots. People keep bringing up Elfen Lied which is the mangaka's other in/famous work. Let me say that the comparison is not correct as this is nothing like the gore feast and madness of Elfen Lied. However, Nononono has always been a seinen and mature work even with all the challenges and inspiring stuff going on. The attempted rape was in line with that crazy character, but I thought it was too detailed and fan-servicy. It then does get some weird characters thrown in at one of the tournaments to either spice things up or because the author was stretching for ideas. Finally this manga was axed so we got an incomplete ending with many plot threads left dangling. All of this detracts from the pretty good first half of the manga. Its still one of my favorite manga but I'm going to have to drop it from the 10 I gave it originally to 8.

OKAY

At first I thought this manga was going to be great. There's an amazing heroine, (no, not the drug as good as it seems), that breaks the boundaries in the sports world for womens' ski jumping and man obstacles that get in the way to that success. THEN, as I kept reading the manga, things started getting out of hand. The manga turned off the road from a realistic approach to the gender discrimination in sports to perverted nonsense, unrealistic injuries, and oversized breasts. At least make them a decent size so we understand how Nono is even able to hide a bit of her identity. All I can say is, if you're not looking for an over-the-top manga, then don't read this... The rest of you enjoy. (;

Best Gender Bender written
by Liquidflux

Virtually all the Gender Bender mangas I've read so far have had the following plotlines:
guy/girl is changed to girl/guy
guy/girl crossdresses due to overbearing parent/guardians
guy/girl crossdresses to get closer to someone
guy/girl gets transported to the past and is viewed as the opposite gender
guy/girl has an identity crisis

Nononono, on the other hand, breaks the mold and has a realistic reason to which you can relate to:
girl pretends to be guy in order to fulfill her olympic dream which only men can participate in

Now, before all the naysayers point out that men are physically superior to women, the limits of some women do sometimes come quite close to the limits of men. Additionally, the olympic event she is aiming for is a team event, meaning achieving her dream is a real possibility, assuming she has the potential and skill (which she does).

However, the reason for crossdressing isn't everything to how good a manga is and thankfully, Nononono delivers on this point. The plot is furthered at an ideal pace - neither too slow, nor too fast, and while some of the character's personalities are a bit unrealistic, it does not detract from the manga at all, instead meshing with its somewhat dark plot and making it all the more better.

All in all, this is one manga I definitely recommend. Forget any bad experiences you may have had with the Gender Bender genre because this is one of the very few shining examples of it done well.

I just thought I would read this as a joke because the title sounded so silly but it actually turned out to be entertaining. I mainly read shoujo/romance/josei so this is refreshing and different. I guess I also like it because it's pretty clean so far and the art is unique, well to me anyway.

Love at first sight and it just gets better

When the first chapter was scanlated I was in love. I even went and started trying to understand things from the raw (I can't read a single kanji).

What struck me then was how much I liked the art.

I thus far don't have a single major thing I dislike about the manga while liking a lot of what it does good.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
its an interesting manga but as it goes on it gets less and less "oh its a sport, cross-dressing manga, with a hint of romance", and more oh great she's from an abusive family and there is attempted rape by a big hairy gay dude. its interesting but I have only read the first two volumes and I understand it gets worse, but hey its interesting and thats all I ask. but seriously do not go in expecting a innocent sports manga.

Meh, this manga is interesting. But it's also very explicit. The author is the one that made Elfen Lied and I read the latest unscand volumes....it is not pretty....not pretty at all. It turns really really scary, many many bad things happen to the main character. sad

After going through a ton of mostly shoujo gender bender mangas, this one was extremely refreshing and, should I say, addicting? It's the first manga that got me so hooked with the first few chapters that I just couldn't wait for the scanlations to come out and directly read all the raw chapters.
What makes this manga so great is that it has just about the right balance of everything. It's got some angst but not too much (with the exception of the flashback arc), and it incorporates some romance but it's actually meaningful here because it shows just what the heroine had to give up for her dream. And of course, the clean art and the dramatization of the sport is a major plus.
Absolutely loved it!
