If only...

...the ending wasn't rushed! *may contain some spoilers* I love most aspects of this story otherwise, including but not limited to, gender bending, unrequited love, prodigy-like skills, ryoma echizen-like cockiness at times, false shoujo-ai and tragic past. This made up for the bad points; in my case, like the attempted rape, the long period it took for the main character to start winning again, and inconclusive ending. Other wise, it was one of my favorite gender benders/sport mangas! I'd like everyone to remember, though, that the situations she ends up in are mostly because of her determination to get into the Olympics. Like the attempted rape...it really shows how bad she wanted to go enough to let him (almost) do that to her. So don't say it was pointless, because I'm pretty sure it was used to show how much she was determined to go to the Olympics.

@lamansonbleue (and no she didn't want to be raped) it's not consensual thats why we call it rape -.-' and your friend probably doesnt show her true emotion because, well, she doesnt trust you. smile

The whole ski jumping part of the manga is really good, but gets unrealistic as the series goes on. And I find all the side stories, her getting found out in the various ways she does, the violence gets abit out of hand and ruins the actual sporting part of the manga.

It was fun to read it first, but then it turned into something stupid along the way. The female lead was supposed to be strong but while the story went on and on, she only gets abused and she doesn't do anything to help herself =/ without that element, the manga would have been a very enjoyable read *-*

Overdramatic

Usually I'm pretty good at suspending disbelief, but this manga went to such extremes to produce drama that I couldn't keep up with it. But the biggest fault was that the manga-ka was obviously forced to bring it to an end much sooner than he/she intended, and so there were so many loose ends left untied that the plot tripped all over itself at the end (see what I did there? wink ). However, I can't deny that I enjoyed this manga up until the final tournament started, after that it was a mess.

At first I really liked this manga and I still like it very much. I just don't get all the molesting/dramatic parts that began to appear so suddently. Even so I love it. I only wish more romance would start between the min characters!

Disappointed

As a sports manga, Nononono (even with the strange name) delivers, but otherwise... it's really just kinda creepy. What was with all those random rape/molestation/etc scenes? They felt really jarring to the flow of the story, which was shaping up to be a pretty good one, and I can't quite get over how Nono just kind of shrugs it off. And if you add that to her past, all the crap she's been put through should have been unbearably traumatic, but fortunately the manga does do a better job of dealing with the past issue. Still, I'm not sure how she's even continuing on at the moment.

Different from other sports series

The author wrote Elfen Lied, and so the trademark psychotic atmosphere is still there. Excessive violence, people verging on insanity, male characters being dangerously true to their base desires, female characters wailing like their family just got killed every chapter...

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Also, if that is the body of a 15-year-old, I wager she'd be better off as a porn star when she grows up. That is if she survives being attacked by psychotic males in this psychotic universe.

It's a good sports manga, just that people are a bit more psychotic, the plot is darker and edgier... And somehow the main character is set up as a tragic heroine so perfectly (if we ignore the fact that it's mainly because some other characters acted a bit idiotically) that I just had to begin cheering for her and wish her luck. And of course, NSFW.

So cute and so dramatic

To be honest, I am not completely sure. Did I just fall for the "soap opera syndrome", which sticked me to following every of Nonomiya's footsteps because she's so likeable and human, or is it because the manga is actually so good?

First of all, a great approach on the sports side. I guess that many readers will agree when I say that ski jumping isn't what we're reading this manga for, but still Okamoto staged it in a great way. I was very sceptical in the beginning... "Sports in a manga? And then, of all things, ski jumping?"
However, he perfectly introduced me as a total ski jumping ignorant into this highly developed sports and perfectly embedded all necessary explanations into the story. And, exceeding that, captured the speed, heigths and thrill of ski jumping much better than any TV broadcast ever could! If he shows an overview over the ramp from the jumper's starting gate, I almost get the same vertigo I would have when actually sitting in such a place...

Still, as mentioned, ski jumping just remained the minor part of the manga to me. Nonomiya is such a likeable protagonist with such a great story that it totally caught me right away. Starting already with the optical designs - despite all doubts about the sports, I was certain to start reading the manga when I only saw the cover of Nonomiya and her skis in front of the jumping hill.
The story absolutely thrilled me, and injected great moments of fun and akwardness at certain points to losen it up, rarely a manga made me laughing as much as this one. And yet containing so much elements...

The latest chapters really turned the story almost upside down to an unpredicted dark side. Though I agree that it is good to include such for a time, I'm not so sure about the staging. Perhaps Okamoto left the previous paths a little too much and dropped a little on the usually so good staging.

It's really really really really really really really good.

I've spent much of my time to read manga and this will really be in my top list!!

Edit:
Spoiler (highlight to view)
I realize I've only read till chpt 87. And it is doing good. Seeing it has 4 volume left, I am kind of worried it will have not really good ending. -__- But I hope it's wrong. :)
