Eh......

For all the good reviews on this series, read them with a critical eye. I'm not usually a big reader of yaoi, but I can usually put aside my reservations as long as the storyline is interesting. I even overlooked the part about one of the guys being in a sexual relationship with his step-dad and still gave this a shot, but it's not nearly as good as it should be. The plot felt so...I don't know, cliche? The themes in this story are by no means original, but even so, I felt that they could have been used better. It attempts to aim at being "realistic" by giving an emotional depth to the characters, but quite honestly, it didn't do it for me.

There's certainly emotion in here, but it's overdone and too much. I've seen similar themes done in other stories that presented the theme WAY better. The beginning and the epilogue were the best parts for me. Everything else was totally unnecessary.

BTW. What's the tragedy tag for? I don't understand what the tragedy is. Is this referring to the two guys' "tortured pasts"?

Left an impression

This story really left an impression on me. It was rather painful to read but I could relate (a little bit) to the characters, since I used to be a cutter myself (under different circumstances though.) So this story really hit the mark.

The ending was sweet but also a tad sad because of how it portrayed that some scars will stay with you for a long, long time to come. I suppose some just run too deep to ever properly and fully heal.

The story read more like a novel than just a manga to me. The characters were so well developed you actually felt their pain and eventual release. It was like you blossomed with them. Kawai-sensei really put a lot of pain, and torment into "Cut" which came through beautifully with her art. No whiney ukes, or cold semes here, just two young people trying to cope with harsh realities, past and present.

All in all, a fantastic read!

a bit too dramatic but cute

Their lives were a bit too dramatic, all full of tremendous tragedies and movie-like situations, but in the end it was a cute story of helping eachother and finding stregth in the other.
I also liked the ending, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

However, I don't think this has a particularly good artwork, sorry to all those of you who described this as awesome and superb but I've seen better art... far better art at that. And since I like graphic sex scenes this was a bit too prudish for me, but it does have a good balance between graphic and hidden for those of you who don't like hard sex...

reccommended!!!

Dark and Angsty

Touko sensei's story was very angsty and dark. Iwas happy to see that it did have a happy ending. It was very cute and I really enjoyed it. It made me a sad reading it. Reason because of the characters abuse. It was cute and warm to see them find comfort with each other, and how it blossomed into love. Personally one of my top titles from Touko sensei.

I’ve always thought the elements of self mutilation and cutting were western concepts and not often seen in mangas. just by looking at the title i knew what this manga was going to be about without having to read the summary.
Personally i didn't enjoy this manga nor did i find the plot original or very touching. i have read dozens of stories with similar themes in the past and therefore wasn’t very impressed and was even disappointed with it considering the amount of people who has given this manga a 10/10 and also comparing to other works that this mangaka has produced. Plus I fervently dislike my main characters having casual sex with older men that they hate and I like my main characters to have sex with each other (I like monogamy)
Initially I did find the idea that love growing from mutual comfort and pain very romantic but over time it just became very cliched as they all follow the same line of path. But if this is your first time reading something of the nature then you might like it and also I think it will appeal to younger audiences (of legal age of course). The cutting and self mutilation is becoming increasingly popular in the western world influenced by pop culture and relatively more frequent in adolescents so this manga does deal with some realistic elements.

It's just short but the impact and the story is great. The art is superb. Both leads are handsome and they look cool but with angsty aura. Art is a very import factor for me to read manga otherwise, I'll not read it. Anyway, this is probably one of the best yaoi manga I read. Story is with depth and the pacing is just right. A must read for those who like yaoi with a great story to boot with.

Worth the read

As others have said, this is not your typical rosy-picture-of-the-world-so-let's-have-sex-and-be-happy story. There's real pain and emotion running throughout the story, which runs from apathy, through sadness and depression, to love and redemption. You really come to care about the characters, even in just one volume. This story definitely earns all of those 10s. I will buy this volume in English since June has released it.

And even if yaoi is not your thing - the scenes really are not that graphic. Most shots are off-screen. You can see worse on late-night movie channels (in the U.S., at least). This qualifies as softcore, not hardcore yaoi.

The plot is not that bad but i wish it was longer but then 1 vol isn't really bad either. Though it doesn't make me to pull out tissues like Complex did but it does moved me to read till the end.

This is such an amazing manga, its a yaoi with an actual plot! And the story is actually interesting, which can't be said for too many yaoi mangas. This story is about two guys with real serious problems, and they end up finding comfort in one another. its hard to read about these two tortured guys and how they punish themselves for the things that have happened in their pasts, but that is what makes this story so beautiful, you get to know these guys and care for them. definitely give this one a try!
