Description
Another new series from JUMP SQ! By the end of the chapter, you'll understand where the title PAT-KEN comes from. This manga is about a boy named Hayabusa, who dreams of becoming a hero in the name of justice. Which is why he took up a part-time job acting as a costumed hero for a children's stage show. But, when the real villains, the Darkside Arms (DA), attack, the real heroes of the city, the Armored Guardians (AG) are called in. Will Hayabusa be allowed to join the Armored Guardians and attain his dream of becoming a real hero?

Not as light-hearted as it looks.

At first glance this looks like it's a send-up of the sentai action genre, and the first part seems to cement that. There's some hilarious moments (like Hayabusa grinding down a suspension bridge on his bicycle, shouting "Justice Complete!!"), but things aren't all as they seem. Hayabusa believes completely in the ultimate goodness of people and that justice will always prevail, but bit by bit the realities of the world and the evil everywhere get hammered into him, while he tries to maintain his own innocence. Don't let the covers fool you, this gets just as grim and moody as Katakura's other works.

Unfortunately, it ended after just three volumes. What's there is interesting, but feels incomplete. This could have been something special if there was more to it, but it just doesn't get there.

Basically it tells pretty much everything this manga is about. Our hero is a 15 reckless kid that doesn't seem to have anything else on his head than justice, the message seems to be that you can change people and that justice doesn't care about details like orders or risking your own life. But well, he is only 15, and so he after doing justice on his bicicle in the first chapter, he gets to be a PAT-KEN. What a PAT-KEN is? Read to find out.

Another work of Kurohime's mangaka.
