Description
In Shinjuku Kabuki-Cho, the biggest sin town in Japan, there are two crazy guys. Ichi is a coward and a wimp, but once he breaks into tears, he turns into a human weapon. With great martial arts skill and a blade hidden in his boots, he butchers a bunch of enemies into mincemeat in the blink of an eye. His arch enemy is Kakihara, a yakuza boss who's tired of everything, including himself. Only when he pierces, cuts, and burns his own and other people's bodies does he feel that he is alive.

Full of S&M and psychos and rapists and whores and insane beings. I'm not allergic with violence or anything, but this manga just goes berserk without any proper meaning or philosophy. Well, if you're just interesting in mere endless fighting and raping and sicking, it may suit your taste.

an awesome manga, well paced, well drawn and a deep plot.
the mature content perhaps crosses a line, but only in a couple of instances. the psychological references are very valid. not much more to say really. also the yakuza content is very good. im struggling to find a good seinen manga based on yakuza. there must be some!
im sure this is a love-it-or-hate-it manga, but i love it! enjoy

Going into this manga, i had the mindset from reading the comments that the mindless violence would be very shocking but it wasn't, it's like the violence in Eden but little more in your face.

It's pretty much a great manga to read if your into seinens.... no, like more into lots of violence and characters that are psychologically messed up to the point that you wonder if people can be that messed up, so be cautious going into this one and not having the right mindset to read it.

Anyway, my fav parts in the manga must be the last volume, some of the funniest stuff i ever seen, and the ending was well done, overrall it's a great manga.

So I have a helpful tip for people reading Ichi the Killer for the first time. Let's say you get attached to one of the characters. Maybe it's one of the female characters (all of whom are gullible and dimwitted prostitutes). Maybe it's one of the male characters (all of whom are murderous thugs with severe and heretofore unknown and unclassified psychiatric illnesses). Whatever.

Anyway, despite the fact that your favorite character is a moral cesspool and psychologically impossible, you really like them. You are worried what might happen to them, and you can hardly stand to turn the page. The suspense is killing you, and basically, you want to know if said character will either:

A. Be all right in the end.

OR

B. Be raped repeatedly, tortured slowly and inventively over the course of several hours/days, then dismembered, disemboweled, and killed.

Well, now your worries are over. If you want to know what will happen to any character in Ichi, just answer the following set of questions about that character. (Warning: SPOILERS):

1. Is the character.....OH FORGET IT!! B!! THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS B!!!

Have fun!

this manga is overall awesome..... and especially at volume 10 when that pigeon shit on that dude.... so freakin funny..... the only major flaw is that theres no continue version of the manga..... i mean... the next one can be takeshi with ichi as a supporter character.... that would be awesome...

ps. the scene in which ichi chases that split mouth dude is beautiful!~ (im not gay.. its just beautiful scenery....)

Everything this manga basically revolves around extremes of masochism and sadism, with people doing some $%#&ed up things to each other and getting sexually aroused by these actions. If you like intense violence, then this probably will interest you. Though I have to mention that while it is very violent, it is not that gory (ie. lots of blood, but no internal organs or whatnot), nowhere near the extent of goriness that is seen in manga like Battle Royale, Berserk, etc. But if you want a good overall series to read, I wouldn't recommend it. None of the characters were likable, since a majority of the significant ones are just plain sick. The story isn't really worth taking note of either. The art is quite good, with facial expressions that remind me of GTO and Beck. Overall, a good source of extreme violence, masochism, and sadism, but nothing much more than that.

A enjoyable read if you're looking for something very mature and similar to Gantz and Battle Royale, the themes are nothing alike, but similar atmospheres. The manga certainly earns the title "Psychological" on a adult level. The story keeps a good pace with detailed and clear art.

While I didn't find this overly violent as some have stated, the themes are interesting and the psychological aspect is well explored. Excellent read.

You know, by what everyone says about this, I was expecting it to be more disturbing and much more violent. However, it wasn't much of either. I found much more of both in MPD Psycho, at least, in my opinion.

Still pretty great for violence, although I didn't find it disturbing.
