it's not her best work

I love Miyamoto Kano's works, the art and storytelling, but this time I was disappointed. It's definitely one of the worst of her works. Except the 2nd story (Kiss me, Daddy - it was nice&funny) and Echo Night (very nice one-shot) they were average, plain and flat. There wasn't any depth.

As for the main story it had potential, I like the idea... but that's all. She made a huge background for the characters and it overgrew the actual story. In the end it was underdeveloped and rushed. There's so little space for their present thoughts and actions - beside sex - it almost fells like they're all supporting characters. Because she's a great mangaka I always have high expectations for her works, and here we have so-so main story and average one shots (also ridiculous one-shot Closed). It's not good. I'm sorry. Amayakana toge is much much better but still as for yaoi in general it was ok.

Compelling!

What fascinating characters! I like how even the "bad" guy is compelling and heart breaking--you just want to root for everyone! The only problem with the title story is the mental disorders of Maki, resulting from an intensely difficult childhood, are brushed away too easily.

The rest of the oneshots are interesting and cleverly written with beautiful, flowing art! I swear it seems like her art actual moves!

Main Story

I've only managed to find the main story so I will comment on that. First of all, i do really admire this mangaka's works, she has a distinctive art style and is also renown for her gritty yet realistic story-lines. This story was no exception. The characters had good chemistry and each had their own personal problems to overcome. What made it good for me was the simple step-by-step progression - its not a complicated story, yet there are complicated themes involved.

Main story's good not the oneshot

Main story is really good, the characterization is well done and the art gives a quiet and calm vibe but the oneshot from the reprint are not up to the same level...
That's too bad. I'm just rating the main story, then.

cute but rushed.

I love the mangaka but this story definitely is not one of her best.
It's cute without a doubt and you should read it but there one reason for which I didn't like it:

it's not believable.

Maki's disorders are serious and they cannot be cured just like that without proper treatment. I can't stand unbelieavable stories.

The idea was good and I liked it, it really warmed my heart towards Maki, but it should have been felshed out more, give them more time, it was too rushed.

[edit by mod,potential spoiler?]

Besides Haruya is unbelievable too, he just takes in a stray without thinking about it twice and he dumps his 10 years long lover giving it the same amount of thoughts: zero.

I like the happy ending and the love scenes but again, not the best of Miyamoto Kano's works. Instead read its sequel Amayakana Toge , it's far better, cuter, hotter and lots of -ers biggrin

For those who have read Liquid Passion's excellent scanlation, and also own the DEUX/Aurora Publishing edition, see if you can find the part where Deux edited the dialogue to remove references to Maki's actual age!

Hint: it's about halfway through the book, just before Haruya tells Yagisawa that he wants to write an article about neglected children *heh*

Very sweet. It made my heart warm, and sad at the same time...
Myamoto kano is a great mangaka, and this is one of her less sad ones.
The ending was very good, although made me feel sad...
I fealt their insecrurety and fears about the future...
Very pretty art. Her art becomes better as time goes. Expressive, sometimes still a bit messy but gentle...
Very well conveyed emotionts, too>.< *sniff*

I love her style, the way her quiet, simple drawings really bring out the emotions in the characters. I also like how Maki's character is so sweet and sad at the beginning, and how he grows as a person by the end of the story. It's very heartwarming.

What a great story, it truly does capture your heart and keeps you pinned until you finish it all. The intimate scenes were great too, excellent way of portraying it without the need for too much graphics. I never thought i would say this but this is my best manga yet.

It will warm your heart

This is the first time I actually felt like making a comment. This is not the best manga I have ever read. It's not the best yaoi or Miyamoto Kano's manga I've read either, however, it's very sweet and it will really warm your heart. Even if you don't like yaoi, you should read it. It's more romance than yaoi anyway. smile
