i think 14 year old me thought this was the deepest and most heartwrenching thing ever. 21 year old me just reread this on a whim and cringed hard time- it's full of cliches and the main character needs to get over his self pity big time. all the characters are remarkably two dimensional, including the mains, but the other characters are really laughably flat, especially the mc's older sister, who honestly had no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
please...don't waste your time. unless you're 14 and are going through that phase where posting pictures of cryptic emo song lyrics graffitied onto walls is cool.

I've always had a thing for one-sided love, especially in BL (since for men it's always going to be harder to be in a mutual love), so from the beginning this manga has already got me hooked. And it just kept getting better and better later on. The resolve towards the ending, admittedly, might be a bit too convenient for my logical mentality, but overall the story did soundly win me over. It's a solid read backed up with substantial elements, which is regrettably not a common thing among many other BL mangas. It's been a while since I could last sympathise with a story's characters so fully to the point it hurts, and though it's heartbreaking, I'd love to experience this sensation again. The art is also wonderful, realistic yet thoroughly expressive. Kinda reminds me of Yamato Nase's, but certainly better by a far distance. I'm just wishing the cover were better though, I mean its colouring is alright but the vibe is not something I'm crazy about.

I read this manga the first time years ago, found it again a few days ago... I rarely reread manga, but I couldn't resist this one. It's just wonderful and totally my taste.
I love the characters. All of them. Yes, even the sister. No, actually I don't love her as a character, but I love the fact she is in this manga. I find her a believable female character (she isn't made to be an annoying bitch who just gets in the boys' way, like sometimes female charas in some yaoi manga; she is a character on her own, has her own story... like her or not) and I think it's super awesome that there are girls and some het romance in Boku wa Kimi no Tori ni Naritai-- makes the manga more realistic. This isn't one of those yaoi manga where "everyone is gay".
As for the characters that I really love, as characters-- oh yes, both the uke and the seme are awesome, unique and just wonderful (beautiful physically as well ). And I adore the uncle
The plot is both romantic, both dramatic... but in the end leaves you with a good feeling. I wouldn't call this manga "sweet" or "cute", but I find it quite heartwarming, makes me feel kinda fuzzy <3
This manga isn't cliche. I find it refreshing even after reading it twice.

Unique in that the plot dealt with a love triangle in such a real way - where everyone had their own reasons and relationships with the other two and none of them wanted to hurt anyone else.
Enjoyable in that the plot was really solid, as well as the art, and the overall sense of the seasons passing and life changing made the whole story come full circle and feel like it was complete even if new relationships were just starting by the end of it.
The only issue I wish had been addressed was a little more on why Kei turned to sex as a means of escape. There was very little in his life that seemed to support that behaviour. It seemed like there had to be some kind of story behind his first time to lead him to believe that was his best chance at feeling a connection to other people. But otherwise, I don't think the first thought to come to most kids is "I feel lonely so I should have gay sex with someone." Since that aspect of his character was so important to the story, I would have liked if it was addressed at least a little.
As for the sister, I actually liked her as a character in this story. I thought she played her role quite well. For those who thought she was a bad sister and really selfish, please read on.

I want to point out that at the end, Moe admitted to knowing that Kei liked her boyfriend for a long time. So, it's very probable a lot of her actions were out of jealousy later on.
- At the beginning, Moe was very open to Kei about her relationship and they got on very well. She even invited Kei out with her and her boyfriend to hang out and treat Kei. Honestly, she was a sweet older sister.
- At the festival, she was already starting to feel left out and probably had already started to realize Kei's feelings. She started to act more selfishly and after that, she didn't want Kei and Fujii spending much time together anymore.
- When she asked Kei to give up his 'date' with Fujii so she could spend the time with Fujii, part of it was probably out of wanting to monopolize Fujii and keep him away from Kei, more than actually wanting to spend the time with Fujii. Kei called her on this saying that she was the one not making the effort to spend time with Fujii but instead was just trying to take his time instead.
- Afterwards, she knew something was up with Kei - Fujii kept bringing it up every time they met up - but instead she was desperately trying to ignore Kei's situation and make Fujii focus on her instead. By this point, she clearly was acting out of a completely different emotion than that of the elder sibling persona she'd had at the beginning of the story. Which leads me to believe it was jealousy with the way it had changed over the course of the story and the fact that she knew (by the end anyways) that both Kei and Fujii enjoyed each other's company more than hers.
So try not to hate her too much, her character delicately changes over the course of the story, and if anything, take consolation in knowing that she admitted to being selfish in her relationship with Fujii and that she, too, will grow from her experiences.

This is one of the best yaoi manga i've ever read! The plot is not predictable (compared to other, commonplace endings, plots, and all that stuff that i can no longer stand unless the art is exceptional), and the art is beautiful! About the crossdressing-there's very little of it. The art seems to emphasize the lips in particular as well. Anyways, i loved this one!

(but WHY is the sister SUCH A B****!!!??? She's so selfish and just ew, the type of person that i would be allergic to!)

Ahhhh..what a great read! Actually I read this ages ago, but found it again in one of my backup files and I'm still very impressed with the story, even now. The first part of Kei's love is so sorrowful and sad, that I can even imagine and feel his feelings. It's like as if he felt abandoned and hurt, so he walked around aimlessly but yet when he found something that he could grasp on, it was full of thorns and that's when he felt the real pain of love. It's so....dramatic.
Although the sister seems nice at first, but she became more selfish and didn't act like a sister at all, and didn't even pay any attention to her own brother especially when he needed help. I feel so sorry for Kei for having a sister like that. I liked his uncle! He's so supportive, though quirky but he's a good lad! He's like the shelter for Kei.
As for Fujii...I don't know what I should say about him. He's not a character that you can like nor hate. And the art!! I like the art a lot. Simple and pretty! Overall, a good read!

This was the story that introduced me to the world of yaoi and after sometime I've finally returned to give my review of this story.
I love the development between Kei and Fujii. They're comfortable around each other and they get along great and I found that so damn sweet. Fujii is thoughtful and kind and even when he started developing some obvious attraction for Kei he was still loyal to Moe.
Kei is also selfless and he's not moron and he's content with keeping a pure love. He is one of the only ukes in the yaoi world that I sympathize with. And I just love him so much.
I also liked Moe even though she was an obstacle and I love the uncle too>_<
It was just a wonderful story, but damn I wish there was at least an omake for it. Oh well, the mangakas outdid themselves with this one. One of the few that I actually like by HK. It's perfect, has everything you need in a yaoi Rather than tragedy, as some manga sites like to use, it was just a bit of angst. The kind that made your heart constrict a bit at all the pain Kei was going through.
Anywho, perfect. 10/10

This is an almost perfect boys love manga, the way it just should be.
Of course, if you look for more sexy action or just porn then you should look elsewhere, but
if you are in it for a good story and great characters then this is for you!
The plot is well thought out and nicely paced so it leaves you wanting to know more and unable to put the book away. It's a romantic story with so much heart tearing drama it makes you want to cry!
The characters are all very lovable and not too over the top.
Kei, the protagonist is someone you can really feel for, he has a hard past and even though he sleeps around he's not a unlikable character at all. He puts his sister before himself and doesn't dare acting selfishly just because he fell for her boyfriend...
Fujii is a wonderful guy and he acts the way a lot of people would in this, instead of just throwing the sister away and banging the younger brother right away like a lot of other yaoi would put it.
This is really something to enjoy and feel sad over, but don't worry, there's a happy end~ (I was actually worried there wouldn't be a happy end at times, lol)
Recommended to absolutely everyone!

I loved the fact that I really got sucked in reading this manga. I was totally rooting for Kei and Fujii from the very beginning! It's quite angsty and even a bit depressing but that only makes the ending that much sweeter... It was deep and gripping with sympathetic characters and good plot. The art was clean but I wished it were a little better. Or maybe just the style wasn't to my liking. That's the only reason I'm not giving this a full 10/10.
