@ architta.. aww come on,get a break..this is manga,anything can happens i do play football in my early years,but i didn't complain..since i know that es21 just a fantasy.
I actully play football, and I have to say, this is rlly bad, the rules are not right, the plays are just "fantasy" plays they would never rlly work. some stuff isn't even realistic. If you play football then u'll understand that this is nothing like the actual thing. Its unreal. Some parts are funny but other wise I don't see anything special. I would give a higher rating (maybe a 3) but because it has such a high rating, im giving it a low rating, u dig?
Eyeshield 21 is definitely one of the best shounen series around. I love all of the characters, I think they're one of the most developed characters ever made in manga, even the 'villains'. I find myself cheering on for them when they're leading as well as sympathizing with them when they're down in the dumps. The games are really the one to watch out for although the filler in between is also surely not to be missed. Also, ES21 is one of those manga whose jokes and circumstances you will never really get tired of.
If you are an avid manga reader and you haven't read this, you ARE surely and 100% missing out so go download/buy it now!!!
The reason why this is true, is because firstly the art is so very overwhelming and detailed. Each page has a lot of detail and you can see the amount of care it is drawn with. It is possible to just stare at a page for a few minutes, just to get all the details. The silly humor, which will draw in the casual reader, and consume the fans with subtle pokes at other shounens. But this just accentuates the drama and over the top parts, which will leave you saying "Awesome...!" over and over again. The silly characters are very appealing too. Each and every one of them is given a distinct personality. Plus, in the official manga releases, from either VIZ or the original Tankoubon, it includes a small background story sometime, like habits, how their room looks like, and other several stats, to flesh out the characters.
Eyeshield 21 is often over the top, sometimes dramatic at just the right moment, and definitely a must read. Not just for American Football fans, but for everyone who can enjoy a perfect example of a top quality manga.
Notes: I'm American, and never really had too much interest in Football.
This is pretty cool. I realize much of it is stylized, but just how awesome stuff looks and sounds makes me wish I played more street football back in the day. I feel like watching football more now, even though I know it won't be like ES. Awesome.
Nothing can get more perfect than this manga. I wasn't very interested in football but this changed me, of course, I only like ES21. This has taught me many things while reading it. One of them was that i wasnt bad at sports, its just that I've never tried and so gave up on it. Then there is the plot and the character that i love. This is the only manga that's not disappointing. Each and every week, i anticipate the next chapter. Truly this is the perfect manga, at least for me it is.
hahahahaha, this is one of the few manga that makes me laugh so hard. Funny story, great plot, hilarious character, etc, etc. And the weird part is.... I never liked any sports manga before.
at first, I didn't wanna give a chance for this manga.. cus I never like American Football and I thought this manga is gonna be all about tackling people, people got injured with broken bones, rinse and repeat..
boy was I wrong.. it had much more depth in it.. the mysterious Hiruma, weird jokes, cool storyline, and much more.. it's not really the best sport manga, but it is one of the best.. and even if you dunno a thing about american football, there are some guides available throughout the series, so you can still pretty much follow what's going on..
About these supposed "magical moves". They're not magical at all, the mangaka exaggerated the art in the movements to create more appeal and give readers who aren't familiar with the sport a clear glimpse of some moves difficulty, because quite frankly in real life it would appear much easier. Basically... Devil Bat Dive = A dive Devil Backfire = A overhead catch Devil Shotgun = A arm block I won't go and explain the rest just because some of you are too dumb to realize the artist was dictating the difficulty of these moves through his art. I see nothing magical here. Not to mention this is a manga, like most forms of media things are exaggerated.
Anyway, the manga is great, even if you're not a fan of the sport(s) its easy to get into. The mangaka did a pretty good job considering American Football is only really common in America.
*Sidenote: Prince of Tennis started off with really fantasy moves very early, as with E21 which is pretty far along now as yet to create a single one. Everything introduced is something normal prettied-up. I don't doubt they'll introduce another special move, but I doubt it'll be anything out outrageous like a super 900 twirl devil catch (or PoTs boom-a-rang snake). Prince of Tennis wasn't bad though it had a fantasy element to it, if you want real tennis... watch real tennis...
