Really a fantastic series. It's cute and funny, and Tory and Colin's relationship is great! The plot is clever and unique and the art is different in a good way. I highly recommend this one. I was hooked! There's enough shounen-ai to make you squeal, but not so much that it'll turn off the people who don't like that sort of thing. Really a great series.

The fact that it's on hiatus is really frustrating, especially since volume two ends on such a cliffhanger! Hopefully we'll get more soon! Be sure to check it out!

(Off* Beat is completed now)

Off *beat is exciting and adorable... Well-fleshed characters. I appreciated the teenage/coming of age aspects to it all; seems like a somewhat fair representation of high school angst. I'm glad it wasn't the extreme kind of angst you encounter in lots of other comics/manga (yes i go to high school so my opinion is quite valid). I'm glad these characters have their own flaws and worries. I'm glad for the slight sarcasm of Colin. I'm glad that Tory can be so insensitive but witty and humorous. I'm glad for the bright enthusiasm of Mandy. I'm glad that the mother has her own mini-spotlight, along with the apartment neighbor.

The conflicts here seemed plausible. Relationships were handled quite realistically and carefully.
(it was just mild angst-- the best angst IMO)

But it ended at only 3 volumes.

The mounting tension just deflated, like that. It felt really incomplete and was quite frustrating.

To be honest, it really ended at an impasse at the point where it should have been the climax or the conflict; where was the falling action? What denouement?
All I'm left with is a sudden epilogue-- time skip, quite far into the future-- no answers in between. Yes, I can easily make assumptions about what happened in between-- but it still feels bare. It doesn't feel like a deliberate ending, actually. I swear there should've been more to the mystery and much, much more in between...
