i was never one to do this, actually this is my first time commenting. but i felt that basara truly deserve praises. i'm still wondering why it took me so long to read this. i am so glad i stucked with it till the end. it is a definite must read for everyone.
the characters, stories, plots and everything was superb.

i am just sad that i finished this too, but it felt good to have read characters that i slowly gotten attached to.

it felt like i was with their journey also....

I personally think that this manga is one of the best because, first and foremost, it was worth reading. Every chapter has different twists, and there's no chapter that left me bored. I was really moved when Shido died but it didn't made me cry, what really striked me the most was when Ageha died, because as the story from the beginning progressed I fell in-love with his character (I really cried you know!). Though he was just a supporting character, he left the biggest mark among all supporting character. The finale was the best, though I was kind of sad that Shuri's arm was cut<spoiler!>. It has the best ending ever!

This manga is so 'Epic' that I feel bad if I don't leave a review on how EPIC this manga is. The romance is nothing I've ever read before. It's the plot and the dynamics between the characters that make this manga stands out from the 'mainstream shoujo'.

An advice to first time readers who aren't familiar with Tamura Yumi's works, don't let the 'old school shoujo art' clouds your judgement and skip the first volume. I got the same impression when I first read this manga, thankfully, I kept on reading until the scene where...

..The Red King is actually Shuri, the guy that Sarasa met at the hotspring

Then I realized, things will get heated up since the whole plot revolves around the 'Enemies become Lovers' and 'Secret Identity' trope, it's amazing how Tamura sensei managed to keep things interesting for 27 volumes!

The ending is probably the most satisfying ending I've ever read..all the knots are tied, the mangaka even covered stories about the side characters. Amazing. *Applauds*

Thank you Tamura Yumi for creating such a masterpiece....actually, I can't thank you enough, your mangas have brought so much happiness to me!! *throws out random fangirl rant*yes! She is my manga idol! For those who enjoyed reading Basara, be sure not to miss reading her on-going manga 7 seeds. It's as Epic as Basara but, BETTER.

I've had Basara on my to read list for a long time, and finally got to read it these last few days. I just finished, and I've got chills up and down my arms because that was the sort of reading experience that I swear to you comes only a few times in a lifetime. I'd read some of Yumi Tamura's shorter works, but they do not fully showcase what a master storyteller she really is. There is so much here to offer a reader, whether you want a complex story, fully realized characters, or a unique world.

My life probably won't change after this. I won't be a better person for it. In a few days this "euphoric" feeling will fade. But right now, I feel pretty damn good to be alive.

I have read so many mangas and books but none of them quiet left an impression like Legend of Basara, by far one of the best shojo manga ever. And make no mistake, I rarely praise mangas especially shojos like I do with basara, this is a true definition of a gem of a manga. The reason why I hold this manga in such a high pedestal because it explored every human emotion and balanced every genre well enough to create the perfect world and story.

Where can I start, well let's see

Story: might sound cliched but make no mistake Basara was actually one of the leading mangas that paved this storyline for further generations to follow. I consider the story to be well executed because everything paced perfectly and made sense.

Charchters
The main character is one of the most compelling female heroines that I personally came across while reading manga, she's unique, despite being strong, she has her weak side, you could tell she was indecisive and was insecure about her Sarasa persona. The rest of the cast fit well and helped the story develop and move on, they make the story. In fact, make no mistake this manga would be nothing without it's characters, the story did not shy away from introducing new characters that actually had a role in the story.

Overall I give this manga 10/10

READ IT!

At first, I was really reluctant to read this manga, simply because there was 27 friggin' volumes! But as I read the first chapter I realised that this plot would be in need of a lot of volumes. It's not like one of those manhwas who just drags on and on for 40 or so volumes and the characters neither develop nor make the reader feel conected. The plot is really complex and I can say with scertainty that I feel for all the characters. At first I was expecting some mediocre story but oh my God! How wrong was I!? This manga really made me think, and I think I spent about a week reading this and impatiently waiting for any chance to continue reading it. It's thrilling, beautiful and tragic. But it leaves the reader with... how should I put it without sounding like some sort of overachiever?... hope. That's the best word I can find to describe what I was feeling when I read this. The entire story is about hope, and to have faith in others, and to be able to see through other peoples differences. As the ending drew near I realised that the romance in this novel isn't really the major point of the manga. It's the struggle for the "new Japan", and when I realised that, i was astounded that I actually could feel the way I feel for this manga. It truly is comparable to a work made by Shakespear, and I can't help but feeling really deep when I think about the plot. This story has captured both my mind and my heart and I it's changed the way I see life. Hahaha, this may sound really weird but the story actually touched me very deeply and I recomend it to anyone who'll be able to see the brighness it gives of and you'll be able to understand the way the characters are thinking and why they do these scertain things, and somehow it feels like all of the characters has been with me forever XD hahahaha, just read it, and be ready to be astound! It didn't get the Shogakukan Manga Award for nothing wink

This manga is best ever what I have read. Even now, when I write this comment, I have tears in my eyes. Sarasa is very strong girl and not only her destiny is very bitter. But my thoughts going to other person: Ageha and this words will never be erased from my mind: "One day ... you´ll meet a woman worth dying for."

I really like the story and the characters. what I did NOT like however, is that it drags onnnnnnn and onnnnnnnn and onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
I'm tempted to skip to the end, my patience went POOF. But it's good anyways.

I absolutely love it, the plot is intriguing, the characters lovable and almost seem like you met them in real life, the world of Basara is a genius of imagination. Development is not rushed, but it never lags. Maybe I'm biased because my favourite character got a lot of spotlight time ^^. Will make you think, will make you feel, will make you sad and happy. Art was a bit...old-fashioned at first, but got used to it before the first chapter ended. In fact, each character is drawn uniquely so you can recognize everyone, and the guys actually do look like guys, which I really like. Will make you think about life and appreciate it more. It's amazing...go read it! =)

Meh.

I, personally, didn't really like this. The characters were well-developed, of course, and it was nice that no one was all evil, or all good, and the plot was original and obviously well thought out.

But I didn't like it. There was too much angst, for one thing-- plus, everything always seemed to go horribly wrong. Loads of people die, it's very bloody, and it can get very confusing as to who's who, and what the heck is going on.

(And there's the fact that the art is horribly old and awful, everyone's shoulders are insanely broad, and you can't tell the girls from the boys at all. ...It does get better as it goes on - much better - but I really can't call it 'good'.)

And I really felt what romance there was developed entirely too quickly and randomly. Admittedly, this is marked as a shoujo, so I probably should have expected that, but it just seemed strange, when all friendly, enemy, and other relations were so gradually developed, that...
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Shuuri and Sarasa should fall completely and utterly in love after, like, three hour-long meetings in the hot springs.
It just feels off.

I'll finish it, just because I hate to leave something undone, but I certainly won't re-read. But maybe it's just me - loads of other people seem to really enjoy this series, so perhaps you shouldn't take my word for it.

EDIT: Okay, so I just finished it. ...And I'm still confused. Not to mention that it felt like this dragged on forever; I kept waiting for it to end, and it never did.

The characters were very good, though, I'll have to give it that. And it was certainly a very creative and unique plot.

...But I still most definitely won't read this again. Once was enough.
